This mascara formula really delivers an impact to your lashes! The two in one formula is applied as a layered product to build and prime the lashes (white end) and then delivering a punchy black defined lash bed with the black end. Lashes are left full and thick, with a texture that you can build on for more drama. Essentially you can continue building until you reach the desired result, there is a bit of wriggle room before the formula dries so you can comb through evenly to separate lashes and create more length. Good colour payoff and intense black. Lasts well during the day and easily removes without special cleanser. Wand is well shaped to fit the eye area and comfortably shape lashes.

Tips: Prep first with white end.
Can use the black end on its own for less drama.
Remove with normal creamy or foaming cleanser.
I really enjoyed using this mascara. At first I thought it was going to be a 2-step where step one is a white primer/fibre formula but it's not!
You start with a volumising formula and then use a 'booster' on the top for length. And by golly does it lengthen!
I found just one coat of each step ample, you don't need any more than that for thicker, fuller and longer lashes.
I like the tube, both wands have a good flex/resistance and easily zigzag through the lashes.
Would happily repurchase!
I am seriously amazed by the L'Oreal Pro XXL Volume Mascara. It out-performs my favourite high end mascara in all ways, and it is undoubtably my new favourite mascara.
I've never used a two-step mascara before and was concerned I would have spider lashes, especially after coating it in the white primer which had them looking very spiky. However, after I applied the black mascara I was left with long, thick, lush looking lashes. They looked fake but in a good way.
Even better, there was no clumping, no smearing, no flaking. The volume and lift lasted throughout the day.
I'm converted.
This mascara is honestly incredible. It makes me look as though I am wearing false lashes. I am especially impressed with it's volumizing effect which is way better than any mascara I have used before.
The wands are not too big so they are easy to use, and the mascara lasts all day without flaking. This mascara isn't waterproof but personally I prefer that as it is easy to remove when I want to.
Tips: Make sure you cover up all of the white volumizer with the black booster. With poor eyesight it was easy to miss a bit.
Finally recieved this after a long wait and it was definitely worth it! This is the first mascara that doesnt make my eyes red or sting when my eyes water the formula is great little to no clumps. How ever the bottle is a bit odd it will take me some time to get use to it. All in all definitely a mascara that is worth the hype.
This is my first experience with a two-step mascara and I really liked it. First you coat your lashes with the primer which is a white substance claiming to lengthen and increase the volume of your lashes. Then you apply the mascara over top of that. I waited until the primer had a chance to dry off a little before applying the mascara (I wasn’t sure if you were meant to do that, there aren’t any instructions and I couldn’t see any guidance online - but it worked for me).
The end result is jet black lashes that really do look longer. I was worried that a volumising mascara would lead to clumps and lumps but that wasn’t the case. Lash definition was excellent.
It lasts all day with no smudging or crumbling and is very easy to apply with a well shaped applicator brush.
My teen daughter, who would love to get eyelash extensions, loves this product too as it’s the closest product she’s found to falsies. High praise!
Tips: Let the primer dry a little bit before applying the mascara.
I haven’t tried a 2 step mascara in years and years so was super keen to see how things had changed in that time. It was really easy to apply, I did step 1 which is white on both pages then went in with step 2 with the black. Both formulas easily coated my lashes and was very pleased to see no clumping! I don’t have long lashes but they’re not short and I’m not normally one to go for a volumising product because I’ve always swayed toward length but I felt this gave me a decent amount of length. It dried down quickly, no smudging, no panda eyes and no flaking. I found it really defined my individual lashes and fanned them out really nicely without making them clumpy or thick. I was really impressed. And to top it all off I found it lasted all day, through groceries and running round after kids and cooking dinner etc. but when the time comes to clean it off it comes away easily with my oil cleanser Definitely adding this one to my repurchase list for mascara and I tell you it’s hard to sway me from my tried and trues but this definitely gave me great results. Would be interested to try the others in this range as I see a few were released.
Tips: Wiggle the brush as you comb through to get all the lashes. Make sure you re dip after each lash, I didn’t in one application because I’m used to formulas having too much product but that’s not an issue with this mascara. Replace mascaras regularly as they can turn quickly and carry bacteria. Apply setting spray before you apply mascara, it can melt it off your eyes and give you the dreaded panda eyes.
I was quite excited to receive the L’Oréal xxl mascara to see if it could make a difference to my lashes.
It’s quite a big mascara container as it has the primer at one end and the mascara at the other but you soon get used to it.
The first step is the primer and you apply this with a straight brush which helps to spread it evenly. It was strange coating my lashes in white. It’s very easy to put on and my lashes were ready for step two.
The mascara brush is curved and goes on easily over the primer. I was worried it would look quite clumpy but it looked really even, and made my lashes look fantastic.
I haven’t tried lash extensions but I feel this mascara is somewhere in between lash extensions and normal mascara.
It definitely made an impact as I’ve had a couple of people comment about my lashes since wearing it.
The size of the mascara handle is a bit bigger than I’m used it doesn’t take long to get used to.
I’d definitely recommend this product if you want more impact than normal mascara but not quite lash extensions.
This is a great mascara and perfect for everyday. Super easy to apply with the 2 steps. First coat lashes with the primer then top with mascara. This was easy to do and i found the applicator brushes really good to use, they're nice and firm which ensures good coverages of all lashes. It definitely adds volume and lengthens lashes without feeling too heavy or clumpy like some mascaras can be. It lasts all day without smuging and I have also found that at the end of the day its really easy to remove with a bit of make up remover.
Tips: Make sure to fully coat your lashes with primer before topping with the mascara
I was lucky enough to be picked for a trial team for this mascara. The tube is very sleek and quite weighty as far as mascaras go. There is a primer and a mascara at opposite ends of the tube. The primer wand is a fairly standard hourglass shape which I like. The primer itself is white and reasonably thick consistency but it does glide on easily. It separated and defined my lashes really well and definitely picked up all the little fine lashes. I wasn't sure if I was meant to let it dry before putting the mascara on top as there's no instructions but I decided to give it a minute before proceeding. The mascara wand is curved with medium length bristles. The formula is thick rather than wet which I find easier to work with. The curved brush does a good job of grabbing all my lashes. The mascara gives awesome volume with nice defined lashes but I was pleasantly surprised at how much length I got with it too. My lashes looked amazing, thick, long and well defined without a clump in sight. I have tried so many mascaras and this gave some of the best results and easily beat most of the high end volume mascaras I've tried. There is just one wee snag, it runs at the slightest sign of moisture. My eyes can get a bit watery and I often got in the car to go to work in the morning to see I had a small tide mark under my eyes in the rear view mirror. It was easy enough to fix up with a careful swipe or two but something to be mindful of. I found it easy enough to remove at the end of the day, I double cleanse and the oil based cleanser easily took care of it. Overall I really love the mascara, if there was a waterproof version it would be my holy grail.
Tips: I found it was best to make sure the mascara was fully set before carrying on with my morning. I used a handheld fan to dry the mascara fully immediately after application and this prevented the dreaded tide marks.
