Its weird to think a year ago, I didn’t know or care who Lime Crime was, but when this company did pop up on my radar, it was because of their velvetiness. They were beautiful. I have googled swatches for these left, right and centre, and not just because of the beautiful and unique colours they came in, but also because the beautiful packaging.
The lime crime velvetine range is packaged in a clear frosted plastic cylinder. The top half on the packaging is red and covered in roses with the lime crime logo printed in white text. It’s pretty and I don’t think anyone could deny that. The red part of the packaging twists off and pulls out of the frosted section to reveal the wand applicator, and the beautiful velvetine inside. In my case, my chosen colour was uptopia, which is an epic cool toned magenta.
Application is easy, but I find with the package design, way more product then I need come out so I have to wipe it off before I use it which make it a bit messy. But it’s a good fact that a little bit of this product goes a long way. I use the wand for application, and carefully line my lips with the velvetine before colouring in my whole lip. The colour is opaque, that’s for sure and it has some serious staying power. But I also find that it really really dries my lips out. Plus even when I exfoliate before using the product, this product seems to almost highlight the lines in my lips.
I find this product is lovely in regards to colour and packaging, but it just does not agree with my lips and this means I rarely reach for this product, and have only used it a handful of times. For that reason as well as a couple others, I won’t be repurchasing Lime Crime Velvetines again, and I have decided to sell my Utopia Lime Crime aswell.
I love these and I will continue to buy them even if the company is a little shady. I do find some colours bleed a little more than others but that can be easily be fixed with a lipliner and careful application. Red Velvet and Utopia are my go to shades. They last for hours (even while eating and drinking) and even if they do fade through the day, the product semi stains your lips so you don't look super patchy. One annoying thing though is their formula can be inconsistent and vary lipstick to lipstick.
Tips: Since these are matte, they look absolutely stunning when you overdraw your lips.
