Tips: Stubborn uneven lip skin can sometimes be a problem so using a bit more pressure when applying can get the stubborn bits to come off.
I have very dry lips, so I wear lip balm every night, and lipstick everyday to protect them. However, they still get dry and peel a lot. This is not only uncomfortable, but it makes it difficult to wear matte lipsticks as my dry lip skin shows through. I decided the solution was to use a lip exfoliator.
While there are plenty of lip balms to be found, I had trouble finding an exfoliator for the lips. This is the first one that I have tried. I came across it after a search on Amazon. I am very pleased I found it. Not only is it quite cheap, but it has made such a difference to my lips!
The scrub comes in a square, bullet lipstick tube, and winds up like a lipstick. You apply it to your lips like a lipstick as well. I use it in the shower everyday. It really does help to remove dead skin from my lips, and since I started using it a couple of months ago I have definitely noticed an improvement in the texture of my lips.
The only drawback is that the scrub is very sweet. Although you are not meant to ingest it, you cannot help but taste it when applying it to your lips. The sugar flavour is far to sweet for me so I don't enjoy tasting it.
Altogether I love this product and I have already repurchased it.
Tips: Apply it to your lips in the shower, then it is easy to wash off.
I have Lush lip scrubs but I really like the handiness of having a lip scrub in a tube because it's less messy you also don't need to dip your fingers into a pot or worry about the grains going under your long nails. This scrub is one of the cheaper ones available on the market and it's pretty natural which I like because sometimes I'm too lazy to wipe it off and so I lick it off. The ingredients are sugar, avocado, grapeseed and jojoba oil, carnuba and candelilla wax, ceresin, shea butter and vitamin E. Before I heard of this lip exfoliator I was considering buying the lip scuff from the The Body Shop because it had the convenience of being in a stick format whereas this has almost all natural ingredients and it's a fifth of the price as the Body Shop one. The only cons I can think of this product is that there is a bit of tendency for little dry bits you exfoliated off your lips to stay on the stick. Another con is because it's so popular it's often hard to find because it's sold out. And lastly this does have aspartame in it which it an artificial sweetener I don't know why it needs it as it has plenty sugar in it already to sweeten it. Despite all that I do think it's one of the better lip scrubs on the market especially considering the ingredients and price and I will definitely repurchase when it's used up.
Tips: Don't wind the entire stick up when you want to use otherwise it could break out of the tube. If you don't like the idea of little flakes from your lips sticking to the scrub after you use it just wipe the tip of the scrub afterwards.
i love this lip scrub i use it everyday before i apply my makeup it tastes so good lol not that im supposed to tatse it...
Absolutely love this stuff! I saw this in the store and couldn't believe how cheap this was and thought I have to try this. Best lip exfoliator in my opinion. Not only does it smell and taste good, it hydrates lips as well as exfoliating them, leaving your lips soft and smooth ready for lipstick. This product is great for both just giving your lips an extra smoothness and shine or creating a soft pallette for any lipcolour.
The lip exfoliator comes in a large classy black box, however the actual exfoliator is small, so the packaging is misleading, as I thought I was getting more product. The exfoliator comes in a classy black rectangular lipstick canister, making it convenient to apply compared to the Lush lip scrubs. The scrub looks brown and rough and smells pleasantly like chocolate and coffee. The lipstick was snapped in half when I got mine which was disappointing, but I easily squished it back together. However due to the texture of this, is quite prone to snapping off.
I found this exfoliating my lips incredibly well, and got rid of all the dead skin. It also left my lips feeling conditioned and nourished, likely because of the shea and jojoba butter in it. However, the taste of this was quite icky, it tastes sweet with a touch of a chemical taste, so whenever I use this I have to wash it off, which is rather annoying. I'd prefer this if it tasted nice like the Lush lip scrubs.
Aside from the taste, this is an affordable lip scrub and does the trick and I'd consider getting it again.
Before Beauty Review, I'd never even heard of a lip scrub but once I had joined up here and started getting into wearing lipstick, I realised how important it was to exfoliate so you get a nice smooth surface. The scrub I first tried was a lush loose one. It's lovely but I found it incredibly messy to use. Then I found about this elf one in a lipstick form and I was dying to try It out
First off, this comes in a nice sleek, black lipstick packaging. It looks just like a lipstick which is nice in a way but if you keep it with other lipsticks then it can be a bit harder to identify where it is. It does say lip exfoliator on one side but that's it. The packaging is reasonably secure, I think the lid might slip off if you kept it in a bag though.
When you open this up, you are greeted with a weird looking creation. Because of the exfoliating speckles in it, it kind of looks like a lipstick that has gone off!
I just apply this pretty much like a normal lipstick. I swipe it over my lips 3 or 4 times, and then wipe or lick the excess off. It tastes really sweet and it smells deliciously sweet too. After it's off, my lips are left smooth and they also feel like I've applied balm on top of them. I'm just starting to get into liquid matte lipsticks and I feel like this creates the perfect base for those lipsticks to sit on.
I have a couple of slight downsides to this product, nothing major. One is that sometimes the top of the stick is just the sugar so you have to wipe it off to get down to a balmy part so it glides nicely. And the other is that mine broke really easily while applying so I have to be a bit more careful now and not wind it up very high. I think though, that for the price you pay and how much easier it is to use compared to a loose scrub that the positives outweigh the negatives.
Tips: Don't go overboard with this product. Your lip skin is much thinner than normal skin and it doesn't take much to over exfoliate them.
I am normally one who uses a lip scrub from Lush but since getting this baby from a BR lovely I was keen as beans to try another method of lip exfoliation. I love that it comes in a lipstick form rather than just in a tub like I am used to with my other lip scrub. Its a brown colour with bits and pieces in it. It looks pretty ugly but I am happy it's in a shape I can work with.
E.l.f has always been a hit or miss with me as a brand. It is very affordable for those on a tight budget but they offer a few great quality products. To me this is one of them and for $5 I am coming back for more soon. I tend to use this every time I apply lipstick because it gives my pout a smoother canvas to work with.
I apply it like I would lipstick or lipbalm and rub my lips together making sure I get my lips good and covered and scrubbed. I do however, find that it can melt a bit fast so to remedy this I keep it in the fridge for in between uses. It works well and is refreshing to apply on my lips.
I's very moisturirising and actually makes my lips appear a little more plump after use. I wonder if that's from the abrasiveness of the sugar scrub. It smells of shea butter to me and is quite delicious smelling. Since using my lips are smooth, nourished and always read for a kiss or so my husband says hehe. I am a follower and love that I can have beautiful lips without the expensive price tag.
Tips: Use before lipstick application. It makes the lipstick smoother and go on easier.
Really good lip scrub. It is super affordable and does a great job. Really easy to apply as it is in a lipstick tube form and it smells really nice. It takes away all they dry skin on my lips and I would definitely purchase this again.
Tips: I buy all my ELF products off of iherb.com
This is the only lip exfoliator I've tried, so I can't give any comparisons to others, however I was surprised at how well it works, for the low price (which isn't surprising with e.l.f). I didn't mind the taste, it was better than tasting chemicals.
Tips: The only heads up I would give would be that I used it too often to start and ended up with red lips - not bleeding but temporarily damaged the blood vessels. I think giving it a go after a shower, once you've already got supple lips, might avoid this problem.
