Invented with teenage skin in mind

Cupcake is our one Fresh Face Mask that was created for a bit of fun. At the time, our inventor’s daughter was a young girl having slumber parties with her girlfriends every weekend, so he whipped up a chocolate mint mask for young, oily skin (officially solidifying him as the coolest dad ever). If you suffer from oily or spotty skin, slather it in this cocoa concoction. With spearmint oil to cool, vanilla absolute to calm redness and Rhassoul mud to deeply cleanse- Cupcake is a sweet savior for young faces. Smothering yourself in chocolate for clearer skin? Every teenage girl’s dream. .

Delicious

I'm not one for regularly using masks, but I received a tub of this at a Lush party recently so it would have been wasteful not to give it a good try.

First off, the scent was deliciously chocolatey and it went on smoothly. It rinsed off easily and I found my face felt noticeably smooth and soft right into the next day.

For someone who has been reasonably sceptical about masks in the past, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this one. I intend to buy it again.

Cocoa Mint Heaven

I have normal to very mildly oily skin and this is how it worked for me.

Not only does the smell of cocoa and mint send me off into paradise, the cocoa left my skin feeling moisturised after washing it off. My skin also smelt like delicious cocoa for hours! The mint gave it a fresh feeling leaving my skin felling cleansed.

Tips: Wet the face a little so it feels a bit dewy before applying so you will have a smoother application

Magic mask

I popped into my local Lush store a few months ago to once again purchase my beloved mask of magnaminty. It is a mask that will clear up my acne prone skin more so than any other product, without fail. Shock horror - they were out of stock. I was in the middle of a break out and desperately needed an alternative so the lovely Lush lady introduced me to the cupcake mask. I am a big fan of cupcakes and chocolate and she promised that it performed similarly to the mask of magnaminty.

I tried it out that night and was certainly impressed. It has a fresh, 'real' cocoa smell that isn't overpowering and is much more pleasant than the Palmer's cocoa butter scent. It is dark brown in colour and applies easily and evenly over the face. It felt refreshing but not as tingly as the mask of magnaminty, which was a nice change.

After rinsing the mask off my skin felt clean and refreshed. My blemishes already felt smaller in size and by the morning they were significantly smaller. Like the mask of magnaminty, the cupcake face mask stopped me from breaking out further and calmed the blemishes that I already had. This cupcake face mask is available in a smaller size than the mask of magnaminty which is great due to the reasonably short expiry date on fresh face masks. The Lush cupcake face mask is a must have for anyone who suffers from break outs and is a gentle option with instant results.

Tips: This is a great alternative to the mask of magnaminty if you are looking for a smaller, more gentle but equally as effective product.

What a fantastic review chelseaadelaide, I love the mask of magnaminty too, but this sounds really good. Will have to grab some when my cosmetic catastrophe is all gone. Its good to know they do a smaller pot as the one I use expires too quick :-(

My Go To Face Mask

I have tried about 4 different face masks from Lush alone and quite a few other brands and have to say this is one of my favourites. The smell, as you can see from the other reviews, is amazing!!!! You legit just want to eat it all (I would suggest having some chocolate before using this facemask so it's not as bad haha).

I really hate how oily my skin can get sometimes so nothing cheers me up as much as using this face mask. Honestly after you take it off there is zero oil any where on my face.

The only downside I find to it is that it is very hard to use it all up before the best before date. I normally use it maybe 4 times and then end up using some of my mum and sister just to use up.

I do however love the pacakging. While it may look like a simple black pot it is actually made from 100% recycled plastic and Lush allows you to bring 5 of these pots back to get a free face mask yay!

Tips: Keep the pots so that you can get your free facemask in return

I love your tip! I actually was drooling over the scent of this the last time I went into LUSH. It sucks this is more for oily skin as I have dry skin. The scent is soooooooooooooo delicious.

Reliable & really delicious

I've been addicted to Lush products for quite some time, but for some reason I only just started using this brilliant face mask.

I have oily, acne prone skin and rarely find a product that accomplishes anything noteworthy. However, I am glad to say that this face mask has started to work it's magic on my complexion. My pores appear to have shrunk and have less clogging them up - which is something no other mask has been able to accomplish.

What's more, the smell is absolutely delish! This, combined with the soft granules, make it a divine face mask I recommend wholeheartedly to everyone with problem skin.

Tips: Store in the fridge amd apply to a clean face. When you're ready to remove the mask, massage face in circular motions as you rinse off the product for an additional exfoliation stage!

Don't Eat it!

My sister purchased this and left it in the fridge... One night when I was rummaging I spotted it. Even though I read that this is for oily skin (I have dry skin), I couldn't resist trying it.

The smell of this is actually heaven. It is a gorgeous chocolatey smell that reminds me a lot of a chocolate face mask I got in a memebox. Because it smells soooo good I had to taste it... Don't taste it! Hahaha. It smells delicious but tastes revolting.

Because it was kept in the fridge, it felt super soothing and cooling on my face. It was easy to apply (albeit a little messy), and rinsed off easily.

Because I am stubborn, I ignored the fact that when I used this my skin felt (and looked), drier. It definitely does what it says it will - this would be perfect for those with oily skins, but isn't good for us dry skinned ladies.

Upon using this, my face felt tight and after rinsing it off and letting my face dry, my skin looked and felt dehydrated. Yet still I used it more than once.

If you have dry skin, keep away from this - no matter how delicious it smells. It really dried my skin out and made my face feel tight.

Needless to say I wouldn't purchase this.

Mmmmm cake......

I was so excited to try this mask as who doesn't like the idea of spearing cupcakes all over their face lol. Its supposed to have a mint smell to it but sadly I couldn't smell it but no worries, it still smelt nice without it. So when you think cupcake or chocolate you thing like chocolate bar chocolate, unfortunately to me this didn't smell like that kind of chocolate, more like baking chocolate i.e. not as sweet. I did find it quite hard to spread over my face once it had been in the fridge but it was okay as once it started to be smoothed over the skin, it melted with its normal temperature. While it started to dry, I could feel it start to tighten and then as it got dry it started to crumble which I found a wee bit messy and the clean up process was just as messy. Once I had washed it off, my face was a teensy bit red but it died down after a minute or two and my face looked and felt radiant. I couldn't stop touching my face. I highly recommend this mask.

Tips: I would suggest perhaps taking it out of the fridge maybe half an hour before applying so that it is easier to smooth over your face in a more equal fashion.

Yes its a great reward system. How does it work if you don't have a store where you are though? I love mask of magnaminty too, but I have sensitive skin too, so makes it a bit red. I haven't tried brazened honey yet but would love to try that next.

The best I have had

I've tried ALOT of masks, it can be classied as an addiction I am sure but my recent use of Lush Cupcake has be smitten for what it does to my skin plus how it makes me feel.

Lush packaging is well known for it's matte black and stark chalk white writing, it is easy to spot that is for sure. Unsure if this mask was going to work on my oilier than normal skin I only grabbed a small pot, wish now I picked the larger one up as by day 2 of ownership this little black pot was empty as if it was licked bone dry.

The actual mask looks like slightly aerated whipped up nutella with a milk chocolate colour and grainy bit running through it, it is heavily and heavenly bombarded with rich scent of cocoa that it is a mission to not lick your fingers after smothering it all over your face. It also moves across the skin really easy without going thin in areas, keeping a constant consitency all over which I love a full bodied mask.

After the alloted 10 minutes of resting it rinses easily away with the use of a warm wet face cloth and then once patted dry my face was instantly bling! bright and not at all greasy or dry. Perfectly balanced. The added coolness from keeping the mask in the fridge adds the reduction of puffy dark undereyes and adds a refreshing sensation as you relax wearing it. Even though I didn't need to use it on day 2 I did just because I wanted that refreshing feeling again as I sat playing on my tablet.

My skin has been behaving so well since using the mask, with my skin care absorbing faster and my makeup looking smoother and more even. I will be getting this mask again next time I get into Lush and it will be a big pot, unless I can get a bucket full.

Not just for oily skins

The lovely staff at Lush recommended this to me when I had a couple of spots but not a full on enough break out to warrant the 'wet dog eating garlic' smell of Cosmetic Warrior. I was a bit reluctant as it is for oily skin, which I'm not, and I'm not a fan of the drying sensation of clay masks as it is. But that scent lured me in......mmmmmm. This definitely smells like chocolate-not unlike the smell from the Whitaker's chocolate factory in my town! The sales assistant also tried some on the back of my hand and told me it also contained chunks of cocoa butter so it didn't feel too drying.

This is a really thick mask to apply and it thickens up even more closer to the expiry date. I use an angled foundation brush to apply and slacken it with a drip of water when even that becomes difficult. This is a mask best removed in the shower to save on cleaning up the basin later. I only leave it on for five minutes out of the recommended 5-10. As soon as it starts to feel tight I take it off to avoid my skin drying out. It has a very slight exfoliating texture when you remove it but does not feel irritating at all.

It does leave my skin feeling soft from the cocoa butter. Oilier skins could definitely get away with not moisturising afterwards. The spots I had calmed down after a couple of uses. I used it twice a week to get the most of the pot before the expiry date (Lush masks are ok for a wee while afterwards too but they will get quite thick). I have had a couple of new spots try to come up whilst using this but they haven't really amounted to anything.

This is a great mask that also suits normal skins suffering from break outs if you adjust how long you leave it on for.
