I used this shampoo twice this week instead of my regular shampoo. The shampoo does not lather much so I was unsure as to how much to use. I ended up squeezing out a cent coin size dollop. Once I used it on its own without conditioner afterwards and the second time I used it with conditioner. Both times after washing and leaving my hair to naturally dry I noticed a huge difference to the condition of my hair! My hair before using this shampoo was brittle, fine and limp looking. I was washing my hair daily because it would get really oily. After the first time I used the Lush Cynthia Stout shampoo my hair was full of volume and looking healthier! I also noticed the next day that my hair wasn't back to its oily self, which mean't I could skip having to wash it again! I used the shampoo again the 3rd day, this time with conditioner after. My hair again dried naturally to a full bounce! It was left soft because of the use of conditioner as well as shampoo. Because of the improvement this had made to my hair, I would recommend this product to others with fine hair. I found the smell of the shampoo not quite to my liking. But it was too terrible that it would put me off using it again :)

Lush Cynthia Sylvia Stout
Condition, body and shine for wavy, fluffy and frizzy hair.
Cynthia Sylvia Stout is made with stout beer, which your great-grandmother probably used to make her hair shine.
Stout contains protein and gives hair weight, smoothness and gloss.
Excellent for hair which goes frizzy in the damp, Cynthia Sylvia Stout smells delicious, like a brandy, stout and lemon cocktail, and even makes curly hair shiny.

Tips: I used this with the Herbal Essence Classic Replenishing conditioner (light pink bottle) and maybe it was the combination of both fragrances but my hair smelt lovely!
I absolutely love Lush. All the products I use in my shower are Lush products which is why I was so upset that this product wasn't that great.
It is very hard to get a good lather making it feel like I haven't shampooed all my hair. Then when it came to brushing my hair there were so many knots I felt like half my hair came out.
I wasn't a fan of the smell since I prefer fruity shampoos.
While my hair did feel softer it definitely was not frizz free so I was quite disappointed as my hair can be annoying with fly-aways
The lush Cynthia Sylvia Stout shampoo makes my hair feel so smooth and very clean! Along with its great smell this product is not tested on animals and has no harsh chemicals. I find it interesting that it is made from Stout beer, and it really did make my hair shine and give it some more weight. I don't find that it makes my hair very knotty, and I will definitely buy it again!
Tips: I pair it with Lush American Cream conditioner and it makes my hair feel silky smooth and very shiny! Also I use a small amount on the palm of my hand, lather it in, wash it out and repeat! My hair has never felt better!
I've always heard how beer is fantastic for giving you shiny locks, but I prefer to drink mine than pour it on my head and risk smelling like a brewery! I was excited to find that Lush had created Cynthia Sylvia Stout which incorporated the magic of beer in a more useable shampoo format, and had debated buying it for awhile before picking it up on sale.
To provide a background into my hair type I had medium-length, fairly thick coloured hair which tends towards an oily scalp and dry, damaged ends. I usually shampoo my hair every 3 days or so.
The packaging of the shampoo is the simplistic plastic bottle with one of those 'press' caps making it easy to use and see exactly how much shampoo you have left. Keeping with Lush's environmental ethics the bottle is made from recycled plastic and isn't tested on animals, gotta love an eco-friendly product!
The first thing I noticed was how different the shampoo smelled from any other beauty product I have tried. It wasn't just a straight beery stout smell, instead it was laced with the heady scent of cognac oil (for smoothness) with a hint of lemongrass. This is a really nice unisex fragrance and I will be buying some from my partner to try!
The formula itself is a lot more runny than standard shampoos, purely liquid with no hint of creaminess in consistency. I found that a good squirt of shampoo was ample to create a nice lather and it was easy to work through my hair. I then conditioned my ends separately as I normally would as even though this shampoo is conditioning I do have very dry ends.
The results? I always have knotty hair when it's wet, no matter what I use, and found it was no worse (maybe even a bit better!) than it normally would be. The scent of the shampoo lingered in my hair which was really subtle and nice. My hair itself felt clean and manageable and the roots which weren't conditioned were still soft and didn't have that squeakiness some shampoos leave. And the shine! Normally I rely on hair oils for shine, but with Cynthia Sylvia Stout my hair had a lovely glossy shine all on it's own.
The price like most lush products is a lot more expensive than I normally would pay for shampoo but I do love the effects and am now making an effort to purchase more eco-friendly products, which a lot of the common supermarket brands are famously not. I will be repurchasing this for both myself and for my partner.
Tips: One wash is enough for soft, glossy hair.
After reading such rave reviews on the ability of this shampoo at smoothing and taming unruly hair from frizz knotty messes to sleekness I looked into the mirror at the frizzy mass atop my head and in the next second I had ordered it off of Lush's website.
I was very excited to get it into my hair as soon as I got it in my hands so was very disappointed when after washing it never lived up to the reviews for me.
The formula of this shampoo is very fluid, the liquid is a brown running consistency that resembled stout beer to keep true to its name I guess. However its state mean't that it was easy to run though my hair and build a little lather action but nothing over the top which was good as lathering agents seem to strip my overly dry hair as it is. Fragrance wise it was what you would expect a beer shampoo to smell off, a brewery!! or a flat bottle of beer that has been left open in the sunlight, very malty and hoppy!
Once rinsed out my hair felt nice and clean even giving a little squeak to confirm that. I then continued with my normal routine of conditioner and then curl crème to style. My hair is thick, curly, dry and out of control on good days but I found that once air dried my hair was a lot softer than normal, but the wrong kind of soft it was all patchy with frizz where the curls in my hair had fallen and created knotted mess. Even trying to rescue with a palm full of serum did nothing but make that area look flat and horrible. A little deflated I gave it the benefit of doubt that it could be atmospheric reason for the messy mane to be out of control so I perceived for another 2 days over the weekend where I found it just made it softer and softer.
I was glad I only got the smaller of the sizes available as I don't think this suits my hair, maybe for those with less thick or less dryness would benefit from it but for me personally I'm going to have to give it a miss now perhaps the hubby can use it up for me or I can pass onto someone else who would be better suited to it.
I got this from Lush as a free sample. It comes in a small clear container. It has enough for several washes, as you only need a small amount of the product each time.
It looks like thick beer, and the smell is delicious, and very Lush-like.
I found a small amount lathered quite well for me.
The product claims is that it is excellent for hair which goes frizzy in the damp, and even makes curly hair shiny. It did make my hair soft and shiny. What I didn’t like, was when my hair was still wet, it felt kind of crunchy, with a texture like it had been soaked in lemon juice. It was a little too drying for my hair.
I don’t think I’ll be purchasing it. It may be better suited to oily hair, but my dry hair didn’t really love it.
This product is so far removed from a normal shampoo for me ( I am the typical branded supermaket, not much thought type of shampoo purchaser!) so really excited to trial something such as this, and overall it did not dissapoint. It leaves a really nice smell on your hair all day (less Stout, more Sandlewood or something), which was really lovely and a very nice change. I did stuggle to get a good lather up after I applied it, something which I have always kind of taken for granted, but having long thick hair was a bit of an issue. Once rinsed off it didn't feel as coated as my usual shampoo ( this is probably because it was full of nothing but goodness), and once I was out of the shower, brushing my hair was a bit of a struggle compared to usual due to lots of knots. All that aside (and not having much hope for it at this point), my hair really did look tons better for it. My hair was shiny, and looked full of life - even I couldnt stop playing with it all day! I don't really like the experience of this shampoo, but love the result on my hair - and has really given me food for thought to break out of the habit of same old same old, and get trialling some more natural shampoo's in the futire. Lush here I come!
This is officially my holy grail shampoo. My hair is long and thick and I do dye it. After losing a lot of my hair due to hasimotos disease, I decided to try a shampoo that wasn't from the supermarket. I wanted to try something that was more natural so I went to my LUSH store, spoke to them and ended up getting this.
That was about 6 months ago and (thankfully), my hair has grown back. This shampoo is completely insane. I love it so much.
First of all the scent is DELICIOUS. It's a kind of strange beer scent - kind of musky with something like a hint of lemon? I suck at describing scents but holy cow this makes my hair smell incredible. The scent lasts in my hair for at least a couple of days and I have had more than one compliment about the smell of my hair haha.
This makes my hair really soft and super shiny. It doesn't help the flyaways but I don't mind because I love how healthy, soft and full my hair always looks and feels after using this.
I give this a 12/10! Hahaha. I hope LUSH never stop making it - it is that incredible. If you haven't tried it then what are you waiting for??!! Get your hair drunk now! :P
Tips: If you're unsure about this then buy the smallest bottle. This is what I did when I first purchased it and it lasted me a long, long time.
My husband has very dark, fine hair which has quite a tight curl to it. He wears it a little longer than average to give it weight so it doesn't stick out round his head like Jack Nicholson's in 'The Shining". His words, not mine. After a serious illness, his hair all fell out and as it grew back, the curl was even more pronounced. He was trying to be blokey and off-hand about it, but we all have a little vanity and his hair is his. I wanted to find something that would treat the new growth ever so gently and yet not make him feel like he was being babied. Cynthia Sylvia Stout was the very thing. It comes in easy to handle packaging, the nozzle of the bottle delivers a precise amount and you can get every last skerrick out. The smell is simply delicious, a little boozy and yet citrusy. The shampoo distributes easily and lathers nicely, then rinses clean away. Hair is shiny and manageable without the need for extra conditioners or product. A couple of years down the track and my husband's hair has grown back completely. Would you believe it is even less grey? This shampoo is the only one he uses now.
Tips: I tried this for myself - coloured, fine straight hair but lots of it - I found it wasn't conditioning enough on it's own.
It's seems to be almost every order I make with lush they send me samples of this to try and they just keep getting stashed in the bathroom cupboard. I had been using solid shampoo and my darling children thought it was soap so before it all went down the drain I put it in my bedroom for safe keeping... Then time for my shower and forgot the shampoo bar! Until I remembered I had these stashed away.
I can't comment on the packaging but the samples I have lasts 2 washes out of one sample pot. The scent of this smells like ginger beer and it's quite in your face ginger beer scented. It was ok for a start then it kind of made me gag, the colour does look like an ale a deep dark brown colour. The consistency of it is very runny, definitely the most runny shampoo I have used. It doesn't lather up much and thankfully the scent didn't last in my hair after I had dried it.
As for stopping fizz and fly aways nope didn't notice any difference and think the solid shampoo bars do a better job. Overall I'm glad Lush sent me so many of these samples as I know I won't be buying the full size product. Not a fan of the scent and didn't find it work so great in my hair.
