You really do have to be oily for the best effect. A staff member mentioned that the residue usually happens if you use on drier skin - I've found I have way less residue if I use occasionally for really bad days. It works great like this and leaves me feeling clean and fresh.

Lush Dark Angels Review
Lush Dark Angels Deep, dark, cleanser for young, dark and oily skin. A black, squidgy scrub with charcoal to absorb oils and exfoliate your skin. Nutritious avocado oil softens, glycerine keeps the moisture in and black sugar softly scrubs; rhassoul mud is anti-microbial and cleanses deeply, while sandalwood and rosewood essential oils are soothing, giving you a feeling of smooth, clean freshness that is difficult to beat. Just remember to wash it off properly and clean the wash basin after you.

Tips: Not a daily cleanser for most skin types
Don’t get me wrong, I love this stuff, but calling it a cleanser is crazy to me!
I use this once or twice a week as an exfoliating in the shower. I rub it on and leave it for several minutes then lightly rub in circular motions and rinse off, then use come cleanser to ensure the residue is removed.
It leave my fave feeling smooth and exfoliated. I urge you not to use this as your daily cleanser though. I have oily skin and it does help. But it’s far too abrasive for every day.
Tips: Follow up with a heavy duty moisturiser for super supple skin.
I bought some of this cleanser last year and was pretty intrigued to try it with it being black and charcoal like lol. It doesn't really have a scent, well not one that I could easily pick out.
The texture is pretty hard to explain, its soft but at the same time its gritty. I think that is how I would describe it. When I first tried it, I found it quite messy as it crumbles into your hand but once you wet it, it starts to come together. I wet my face first and then applied it, rubbing it in circular movements. Because of the gritty bits in it, I didn't rub too hard as I have extremely sensitive skin. When I finished massaging it in, I rinsed it off and my skin felt so soft but at the same time a little red. Maybe I rubbed it harder than I thought or it did irritate me a little, but the second time I used it I realised it must be because of my dry skin. It does leave your skin really clean and soft but as I found out later on its actually for oily skin, oops. I didn't buy it again but found it still did a good job at cleansing my skin.
Tips: Don't buy if you have dry sensitive skin as it can cause irritation. This is really designed for oily type skin x
This is a product that I only use at certain times of year; that is to say, the summer months. I get super oily in summer and find I need a bit more help keeping my skin clear. The Dark Angels cleanser, whilst initially terrifying (to me, anyway) really does help give the skin a thorough cleaning. I find you have to be very gentle when using it, as it can be a bit rough on the skin. Also, this is advertised as being for oily skin, but I would NOT go near this if your skin is dry or even if it is combination dry. It would feel really rough against the skin and overall might not be an enjoyable experience.
Tips: Only use this twice, maybe three times a week. It's powerful enough that you DEFINITELY don't need to use it everyday, but it is great to have around during the summer months if you have oily skin. Make sure to follow up with a light but hydrating moisturizer. Yes, even if you have super-oily skin. xxx
This product was great, and fun to use! Worked really well, however did get stuck up my nostrils for some reason (must have been hard at work scrubbing that area).
i got lush - dark angels for christmas, i use this 3-4 times a week as im combination skin, and it is a rougher texture to exfoliate and i dont like to use anything too harsh every day. i find when i use this my skin feels clean and fresh. I only use a small pea sized amount of product, and mix with water and apply all over my face. overall i really like it and will continue to use :)
Tips: only use a tiny bit and mix with water, i find it easiest to use in the shower as its quite messy
This was my first cleanser from Lush. I like scrubby type products but decided to switch to Lush because I thought it would be much better for the environment. I enjoyed using Dark Angels. It made my skin feel clean and fresh/not oily and I also liked the smell. The major downside is that it is charcoal based and makes everything it touches black! I used Lush's Tea Tree Water to get rid of what was left after I washed it off (which made me feel extra clean and fresh).
Tips: Make sure to rinse your mouth afterwards otherwise you might have black bits in your teeth.
I really enjoyed using the Dark Angels cleanser as it was great as a facial cleanser and great for the body too!
i noticed i was getting little bumps / black heads on my decolletage and this was great to exfoliate with!
it really made my skin glow!
only down side would be that it can be a bit messy to start off with!
I purchased this when I went into Lush and my normal cleanser was out of stock. This cleanser is pretty intense! The colour for starters can stain bathroom sinks if not washed down properly (make sure the skin is cleared after use). I found that this worked best when used occasionally, one a week, when I felt like I need a deep cleanse. I definitely would not recommend using this for a daily cleanser!
Tips: Use occasionally.
After borrowing this from my friend and seeing how it made my skin look so fresh, bright and clean I knew I wanted to get some for myself! Instead of using this as a daily cleanser I use it once a week as an exfoliater and much prefer to use it this way! It honestly gives your skin a lovely glow and fresh look and I’m sure helped to calm down some of my pimples. It can stain your skin which has happened to me once, but since then I tried to take my time with rinsing it off making sure it really wasn’t there and I think the trick is to not rush the rinse off. I would definitely reccomend this to most skin types as a once a week exfoliater rather than daily cleanse as that’s how I’m using it and seeing great results!
Tips: It gets messy and take your time with it!
