When I was getting into body scrubs and was on a tight budget I saw this on sale on Boxing Day. So figured at about $4 I couldn't really go wrong with a good Lush soap. One reason why this soap stood out to me was because I try to avoid SLS which was in a lot there other soaps but this one doesn't have it. I did like that this bar is made with mostly natural ingredients and oils. And it does have a nice fresh citrusy, lemony sort of scent. However I did find the sand really rough and scrubby, well duh on me it's second on the ingredients list. I used this twice a week in the shower as a body scrub. My skin was a bit red afterwards, didn't mind scrubbing at my butt and legs with this and worked really well on my heels. Being new to scrubs at the time I dismissed this as sort of normal. Of course, scrubs leave your skin red they just removed the top layer of skin! As time went on I discovered that twice a week was a bit much plus using it on my torso was a bit well irritating although I did move the bar in gentle motions over my back and the front of my torso. When I finished the bar I was happy it was finished. I don't think I would repurchase this bar, unless I was after a good cheap foot scrub (which is what I should have saved it for, to sort of use a pumice in the shower, soaps and scrubs your heels). It is too rough to use everyday on your body. Since this little bar of beautifying pain, I have discovered other body scrubs - gentler body scrubs, body scrubs that gave me a carressable (is that even a word?) butt and thighs all without the redness and irritation and they were gentle on my torso and back as well. Would I recommend this? Well unless you are after a pumice sort of scrub for your foot, oh and you don't mind a bit of sand in your shower, leave it on the shelf at Lush. Go smell the other soaps. Don't they smell delicious? Good! Now buy those instead.

Lush Sandstone Soap Review
Lush Sandstone Soap Review
The exfoliating citrus and sandy one. On the glorious beaches of Rio de Janeiro, stunning Brazilian babes, and their mothers, mix up tanning oil with the fine sand and scrub their backsides to make them as smooth as silk. Sandstone soap has a layer of sand and the seductive scent of a caipirinha cocktail.

Tips: Good for scrubbing your heels in the shower. If you do decide to get this either go to the store and request a sample to try or get it on the Boxing Day sales. This is not an everyday soap, this is a maybe once a week soap or a foot scrub.
I was sent a chunk of this as a prize a while back and because it's not a good idea to have sand going into a airator septic system I decided on passing it on to the hubby to use (works with cars and machinery) I decided to stock up even more at the post Christmas sale. Hubby uses this outside at his hand wash station instead of his regular scrub now and I sometimes grab it if I have been in the garden or pruning the tomatoes by hand.
I normally find the smell of degreasing hand scrubs over-powering and linger long after the product was washed off but not this little gem. Not only is the scent a light citrus scent, but it also does an alright job at removing grease (not perfect though). I hadn't thought of using it on my body as it seemed too harsh but for a pre-tan exfoliate it might be a neat tool.
Also wonderful at getting rid of smelly pet odors off hands (oh the joys of living in the country).
I got several samples of this over the Christmas period and I was pretty excited, because I love soap. It's a weird thing to love but at least it's not a love for hardcore drugs. And Lush is (probably) cheaper.
I wasn't wowed by the brown coloring of this soap, in fact, it looked quite boring and bland. I didn't notice the bits of sand in it, so when I washed my hands for the first time I was pleasantly surprised!
The smell of this soap is quite light, rather than in your face like some Lush ones can be. I have no problem with that! It's a lovely citrussy kind of smell and really wakes you up (not handy at 4am when I wake up to use the bathroom).
It lathers really well, I have found a lot of Lush soaps lather well for a bit then nothing, but this one has lathered well and remains to do so even at the end of its lifetime. I put this down to the sand in it, as it must help the bubble process. I would definitely repurchase this!
Tips: I use mine as a hand soap only, as I hate soap for my body. However this one is apparently safe for your face and definitely safe for your body! So I might have to try it out :D
I was in the local LUSH store when one of the lovely ladies recommended this to me, if they hadn't shown me this soap I dont think I would've seen it because LUSH is filled with so many bright colored things, this brown soap mountain just faded in the back ground. The citrus smell opened to nose buds and it happened to fall into my LUSH basket.
I adore soaps that are "scratchy" and if you like that then this will be a favorite of yours too! It contains a lot of sand and rubbing this all over my body feels so satisfying, be careful to not press too hard as it does a great job without adding too much pressure.
It creates these citrus suds that gently disappear once you leave the shower. The scent doesnt last very long once you wash the soap off. If they had a perfume version of sandstone I would purchase it. Every time I use this I leave the shower feeling ready to seize the day. Theres something about this soap that makes me feel like I can move mountains after washing with this! Motivation in a soap I guess hehe!
Every time I shop at LUSH I purchase at least 1 bar of this, it is one of my favorite things from LUSH.
Tips: I like to rub this around the edges of my feet to remove the dry skin, be careful not to slip!
This is a great exfoliator. Firstly as a soap it cleans you and, secondly, with the sand it scrubs you soft. Lovely uplifting citrus smell. Can be a bit rough if you scrub hard so use gently. So much more convenient than using a separate scrub and less messy too.
Tips: I'm usually left with a bit of sand on the shower floor when I've used this - I just give the shower a quick rinse after I'm done.
The old version of this used to have a sandy end and soapy end. The sandy end was very effective for cellulite and blackheads if you gave your thighs a *gentle* scrub but the soap part was quite drying and squeaky. I was excited to try the new version, however it appears to just be the drying, squeaky soap without the effective sandy part. Some more work needs to be done on this formula!
This review is probably the hardest one for me to write, ever! I ADORE this product, but absolutely HATE what it does to my shower drain!
Sandstone soap is a gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous product. It smells absolutely beautiful, a citrusy, lemongrassy scent that is at once tropical and earthy. The texture is very coarse as it is full of sand - ethically sourced, of course. It is also mingled with patches of smooth soap, which is pearly and soft. This soap feels amazing on the skin and provides beautiful exfoliation which leaves skin soft and smooth. It comes in a wheel so you can buy as much as you like, and I consider it to be super affordable, too.
Unfortunately, this soap clogs my shower drain like nothing else! After using it for a while the drain ended up full of grains of sand! The only way I could clear it was by using Draino - not the most eco-friendly solution!
In conclusion: this soap is absolutely amazing. But I wouldn't recommend unless you have a drain that can handle anything!
