I have in the last few years started using bar soap as hand soap. I had been hoarding it for long enough and I decided that enough was enough, and I was going to use up my problem. Beauty Review is always adding to my problem, not that I mind. I love soap!
This soap is so gorgeous. Depending on what kind of cut you get, your soap can look like seaweed floating in seafoam atop beautiful blue waters. It can look like seaweed afloat in the same blue waters, with dots of seafoam. Or, you can turn it upside down and have beautiful blue on top of the mysterious black abyss that is the ocean floor, or the bottom of a rock pool. Any way you look at this soap, it’s a work of art.
The smell of the soap I thought was quite subtle. Even smelling it when it was brand new I couldn’t really pick up any definitive smells. It definitely smells clean, kinda like a citrusy breeze with an undertone of something that makes me think of the ocean. It doesn’t fully transport me beach side with a martini that Alejandro the pool boy just bought me, but it does wake me up and invigorate my senses.
However. I had mine wrapped, yet the color still faded. I think that because of this, the soap doesn’t work nearly as well, or smell nearly as good as it should. I have to work hard to get a lather, twisting the soap in my hands several times. As it’s a solid cube, you can imagine how hard that can be! My hands have finally worn down the edges (a knife may have been used) and while it’s easier to slip around in my hands now I still have trouble trying to work up a lather. The smell, now that I’ve been using it, now that it’s ‘old’, is not nearly as good as when I first sniffed it. Now, it just smells like soap, and the undertone is citrusy, my martini and Alejandro nothing but a distant memory.
My hands (as I don’t use solid soaps on my body) don’t get nearly as soft as I thought they would considering how great the ingredients sound on paper. They just feel like normal hands, normal skin. Maybe slightly dried out skin because of the salt. Perhaps the problem isn’t the soap, it was mine for letting it sit so long without use, but it was wrapped so I feel like that shouldn’t have happened. I do like this soap, but not enough to buy it again, free or not.
I love lush so was very happy to snap this up in the beauty vault. It is so stunning looking. Blue and green marbeled throughout with seaweed pieces on top. It definitely reminds me of the ocean.
The smell to me is so subtle that I barely notice it at all. It is hard to get a good lather. You have to make sure the soap is very wet but even then it does not lather much. I think I am just used to body wash with lots of suds.
It leaves my body feeling clean and fresh. No dry, tight feeling which I get from most soaps. While it is a lovely soap it is just not for me. I prefer a beautiful fragrant soap that lathers. It just did not wow me.
I think it is great value for money though as it is still going strong after a month. I would not repurchase as I think lush has much nicer soaps.
