Maybelline Colossal Up To 36H Waterproof Mascara

I used this Maybelline Colossal mascara once on a work day before going into lockdown and it lasted the day and overnight with no problems. It didn't really add much volume compared to other Maybelline mascara I have used, but it gave enough coverage and at the base of my lashes was still coated the day after (I didn't wash off to see how it lasted the night). It also didn't give me panda eyes by sleeping overnight with it still on.

Does what it states - stays put and does not move! So much so you can only take off using a good oil or balm cleanser. Pigment/colour was great and applied nicely. Was not super liquidly, felt more dry compared to most mascara's and didn't layer up on the lashes as much. Not a super dramatic finish, but better designed for daily use at work. Was overall easy to apply and did a great job at coating the lashes.

I always find longwear mascaras tend to be super crispy after a few hours - you know that super tight, dry finish.

The Colossal doesn't have that feel, it feels like a very lash-friendly mascara.

The brush is very good to use, it catches the whole lash line and handles the mascara zigzagging application well.

It definitely lasts 24 hours, I left it on as a challenge (thanks lockdown) overnight and when I woke up I still had great lashes and no smudges. Maybe this is the secret of those ladies in movies that always wake up with beautiful eyes (unlike me who always looks like her eyes have sunken into her head haha)

It gives thicker lashes with a touch more length, which is what I like. I can't stand lashes touching my glasses or my eyelid.

I love the bright bumblebee colouring of the tube, it stands out but doesn't look cheap.

I've not given full marks to would I use it again as I'm a mascara floozy and regularly try new ones, but I definitely wouldn't avoid this, and would probably reach for it on the shelf.

I do love me a Maybelline mascara!

Pros: - The packaging is lovely, really bold and striking. - The wand is fantastic, it's big enough to make applying mascara easy, but not too big that it's hard to wield. - The formula of the mascara is perfecto. Not to wet, not too thick. Quick to dry, but not too quick that you can't go in for a second coat. - It really volumises your lashes. They look almost double in thickness

Cons: - REALLY hard to remove. You either need a good waterproof-makeup remover, or settling in for a good amount of cleansing and re-cleansing. - It doesn't really lengthen the lashes, so if you're lashes are a bit on the stumpy side this might not do it for you - I don't believe this would last 36hours without smudging or flaking based on the 16 hour day I put it through, but it is long-lasting and definitely doesn't smudge for a good amount of time.

This mascara survived all the tests I put it through: tears during meltdowns, sweat on a very humid day, water during swimming (plus when I purposely splashed water on my eyes), and a few eye rubs when I had hay-fever.

It didn't flake, smudge, and my lashes looked the same at the end of the day. I tried it with and without eyelash curler - didn't seem to make any difference in the lifting department.

It doesn't deliver the "dramatic lashes in an instant" claim: I have to keep on dipping the brush into the tube as the mega brush didn't pick up sufficient amount of product, which I find a tad frustrating. It also doesn't curl nor amplify my lashes.

Would repurchase this for the waterproof property but not for daily use.

My first impressions of this mascara is that it is easy to hold and the brush has plenty of bristles. They seem finer than other brushes I have used before. When using the brush I found it went on smoothly and there was no clumping at all. I think the finer bristles and increased number of them really helped to separate and coat each lash well. I did run over my lashes a few times to build up a little thickness but I didn't overdo it so that they wouldn't clump at all. After wearing for the day there was no rubbing, smudging or flaking from my lashes. I love that it actually made my lashes look dark and bold, while actually looking quite natural. I think this would be a great everyday mascara and also quite affordable to buy. The packaging is great too, as you can easily see what you getting and it isn't contained in a huge box for a small item. Overall I think this is a great product and would definitely recommend as an affordable, effective, everyday mascara.

It didn’t add a lot of length to my lashes but oh my lord the volume was amazing! It gave my lashes such a beautiful make over without leaving my lashes look like a clumpy mess. Something I am so passionate about. A huge pet peeve of mine is clumpy separated looking lashes.

It wore amazingly! No smudging of any kind and it lasted all day, flake and mess free! The only issue I have with this mascara is it is really, really hard to get off. I tried three different types of cleansers including an oil cleanser and it would not budge (I guess in hindsight it’s a good thing given it is a waterproof mascara). I think having a proper eye makeup remover is a must with this mascara.

At first I found this quite clumpy both on the brush and eye lashes, it took a few goes of wiping the brush and re dipping to get it more smooth and even. Personally I prefer a small brush to a big one but this was ok. The colour was lovely and dark and once on looks lush and gave my lashes a lovely full and long look which I loved. Also for a waterproof mascara came off super easily with an oil cleanser. Overall I liked it and would purchase but still do prefer a small brush

This mascara was easy to apply, I like the applicator as it separated my lashes and coated them individually whilst giving me a little bit of length, I did find that it gave a more natural look then the dramatic look that I was expecting from this product.

Next time I tried it, I did a few coats to achieve a more dramatic look, I did find that it started to clump on my lashes with little bits of product so you do have to be careful with that but it did give a much more 'evening' look.

Once applied it did dry very quickly and with wearing it all day I did fall in love with it, it did not transfer and I did not have panda eyes at all! However this was definitely a harder mascara to remove, it didn't budge with my 'Face Halo' and only moved a little bit with 'Micellar Water' I ended up finding this product has to be removed with a makeup remover balm or coconut oil to really break it down and get it off.

This product lives up to its name. Though, one thing that I couldn't put to the test was the claimed longevity of 36 hours...

The claims of being smudge-proof, clump-free and waterproof are all proven correct although didn't fully test out the waterproof in actual water but i am a chronic eye area toucher and at times smudge and unknowingly remove my mascara (when I am wearing it..) by constantly rubbing my eyes....

Just also reading up on the other claims that it would look "just as bold" and voluminous as when I first put it on... not particualrly true, for me anyway. I can still feel and see some of it but... it is not as voluminous 10-11 hours later, unfortunately.

Other than that, it is a great mascara that will most definitely last the whole day and not clump or smudge and possibly last through a little random Auckland sun shower !
