I was really excited to have been selected for this trial team as I struggle to find an eyeliner that can perform on my heavily hooded, age-droopy and very oily eyelids.
At first try of this pencil I was impressed with the exceptional pigment and the effortless glide. The colour went on like a felt tip pen but it was oh so smooth with no drag on the skin at all, it just swipes on like butter. Because the colour is so intense, a little goes a long way so I kept a light hand to just colour my lower lashes. In this location the liner performed ok, however I did get some bleeding over the course of the day but not enough to look 'panda eyes'. It just gave me a more smokey eye look than a precise line.
I have also been wanting to find a pencil that I could do a small cat flick on my upper lash line to try and open my hooded eyes and thought this might be the answer to achieving that. I tried this on everything from bare skin to powdered before and after liner but unfortunately I got a transfer onto my upper lid with every attempt I made. That said, I have yet to find a liner that could stay put on my lash line when my upper lids are literally sitting on top of them all day.
For the colour payout, the texture and the price point I think this is a great buy.
The Maybelline Tattoo Gel Liner Pencil is a very easy-to-apply eyeliner that looks like a standard eyeliner pencil. It goes on fairly easily and is designed to last all day.
The good bits: It draws on easily. Not as smooth as a liquid eyeliner so is perfect if you are not after a liquid look and great for a smudgy eyeliner look. A true black colour. Low price point.
The not-so-good bits: It claims that it doesn't smudge however every time I have used this eyeliner I have black smudges on my upper eyelid under my brow. Possibly just my eyes but this is a major flaw for me especially as it is a tattoo liner! It also needs to be sharpened which isn't a flaw as such but something to be aware of.
Overall this gel liner pencil was ok. If I didn't experience the upper lid smudging then I would buy it again but because I have other liners that I do not experience this issue with I would not purchase it again. Again, this won't be an issue for all eye shapes so for the price point it is worth a try.
Tips: If your line is a bit wonky you can use a cotton bud to smudge it slightly for a nicer look.
