Recently I have gone through a few crap mascaras (heres looking at you Rimmel). So I decided to go back to my tried and true favourite Maybelline mascara - Falsies. I picked this up in the waterproof formula as I'm really prone to mascaras smudging on me sue to my really oily lids. I picked this up for $27.99 but luckily I had some rewards from using my Credit Card too much so it didn't actually cost me any real money.
I really like the packaging for this. It is in a dark pink/purple tube and the tube is quite thin. I'm sick of companies bulking up mascara packaging. It doesn't need to be that thick. Anyway the light blue metallic writing on it is nice, although does rub off once you have used this for a while... no big deal.
The mascara wand itself is a natural fibre looking one that has a bit of a bend in it so you can get all your lashes in one swipe. It also picks up a lot of product which is nice. The stick part that holds the brush is quite bendy too which is weird. Don't know if it really actually does anything to help with the application. The formulation is somewhere in between wet and dry. Dry enough that it dries on your lashes quickly so you don't get it smudging over your just done eyeshadow. But wet enough that you feel like you get a really good coating over your lashes. I don't find this the most dramatic mascara, not the false lash effect at all. But it is a mascara I know I can fall back on whenever I get sick of trying new ones. It does separate my lashes and add a wee bit of volume without clumping. I never have any problems with flaking or smudging with this. Although being waterproof it is a bit harder to remove I don't mind for the benefit of no smudging... nothing my oil cleanser can't get through.
As I said this is my tried and true mascara. Something I will go back to but doesn't work miracles... I will eventually go back into the makeup jungle to search out the miracle worker mascara but for now this works while I build my stamina back up.
Doesn't every girl who loves makeup crave lashes that look false but are real? I know I do! I am always on the hunt for mascaras that will add volume and length without the clumps and sticks together. I am no makeup pro so gluing false lashes on to my eyelids is not something I want to do. It not only looks complicated it looks too high maintenance for me! I would rather play up what I naturally have.
When I saw that Maybelline had a mascara out that claimed to make it look like you had flared falsies, I was in line to get my hands on one! I paid full RRP for this because I wanted it that bad. $27.95 is pretty normal for a mascara any way so it wasn't a bit deal. I am in love with the fuchsia colour of the tube and the baby blue writing. It's very bold and stands out which of course I love! The brush is a whole new level of awesome! It curves to mirror the shape of the base of the eyelid which makes it easier to grab each and every lash and brush it to perfection. It's not too bulky like other brushes that are hard to control and end up with far too much product on it.
The true test begins. I open my eye and start at the base of my lashes. I learned a trick to wriggle the brush side to side as you brush up because it gets the mascara in to those hard to reach places. It definitely makes it easier to prevent clumps and too many lashes sticking together. This is where the pros stop for me though. I applied three coats and was still searching for my falsies flared look? Yes I got volume but it fell short when it came to the length! I was disappointed because this look I could get with any $2 shop mascara and still have money left to get a primer!
Although it didn't give me what I was looking for I plodded ahead to test the stay power. I gave it the ultimate test by wearing it whilst working out to see how 'waterproof' it was. After a half an hour cardio session and a shower I was met with panda eyes to the max. Now I know this was extreme so I wiped it off, reapplied and wore it all day long whilst doing my groceries and shopping. It managed to stay a bit longer but I still saw a slightly black ring forming under my eyes! Summary, no it doesn't give you the promised falsies flared look, yes it gives volume and no it doesn't have stay power. Would I use it again? No!
