NYX Professional Makeup Soft Matte Lip Cream Review

I think I discovered these because I wanted to buy LimeCrime, but didn't want to pay the big bucks for something I wasn't sure I was going to like. After hours (maybe an exaggeration) of trawling the internet for dupes and swatches I came across these, and I purchased my first color from eBay after much mental debate. So far I have gotten my little hands on four of the shades from NYX. I have and will be reviewing: Ibiza, Antwerp, Prague and Copenhagen.

I'm amazed. I've never owned a matte anything, except nail polish which hardly counts here. The formula is smooth and creamy and it slides on easily with the angled applicator. Leave it to dry and it goes matte on your lips. And I've found it lasts all day (although I didn't eat much that day and drank through a straw). It lasts a while, though!

They smell so good, like sugar cookies or candy or something. The tubes they come in are cute too, I really like how they're packaged. I find that Antwerp and Ibiza (both pinky kind of colors) highlight where my lips are chapped or just not nice looking. Prague, a dark fushia color, and Copenhagen, a dark purple, do not highlight the chapped lips, but they cover it.

Copenhagen, being as dark as it is, probably needs to be dried after the first application before you apply another one. It doesn't go as opaque as the others, and is darker in some places other than others, and that's really frustrating.

Overall, I'm in love with these, and I'm probably going to buy more. It's the only product I've ever bought that I've had more than two of, at any one time. Its a really fun obsession!

The packaging is nice - I don't feel like it looks or feels cheap, despite the small price tag.

These also smell really good! I personally find yucky smelling lipsticks really off putting and end up giving them away or throwing out.

I love that these are matte, but don't dry my lips out. They still feel quite creamy, they are so easy to apply and glide on really smoothly and without any chunky bits (which I have experienced with some other matte lip creams from other brands).

There is a great colour selection to choose from as well. I find the staying power of these quite good - if you aren't eating and drinking up a storm you will be fine. I do find after eating they definitely do need a touch up, but it is no hassle to do so as these remove easily and can be reapplied.

These are something I purchased a while ago, after hearing so many brilliant things about them. I bought five shades (just to make sure the formula was consistent across every colour... hahaha :P )

The shades I got were Amsterdam (a true red), Addis Adaba (a very bright fuchsia), Prague (a wine shade), Ibiza (a deep rosey pink) and Antwerp (a medium pink).

All of these apply with a doe foot applicator and have a nice vanilla scent to them. These are super easy to apply and all of them feel really soft and velvety on your lips. The pigmentation of these does vary, I found that the darker shades had more pigmentation to them and only needed one coat, whereas the lighter shades are a little less pigmented. These are easily built up however, so you can apply as many coats as you want.

Some matte lipsticks tend to dry your lips out and these don't really do that. They are just a tiny bit drying but if you apply a lip balm about ten minutes before applying these (and remove the lip balm before application of these), they won't feel dry at all. These are extremely comfortable to wear all day and do leave a slight stain to your lips.

The wear time for these varies depending on if you are eating or drinking, I found that I can get around 4 hours of wear time from these with light eating and drinking, so reapplication is something to consider. Personally I don't mind taking these with me if I am wearing them because they are soooo comfortable and pretty.

The finish is definitely a matte finish but they look a little velvety and rich. They're beautiful!

I bought two of these - Milan, which is a lighter pink, and Addis Abada which is a bright pink. They both look stunning and are a really nice matte finish. I find they last longer than a normal lipstick, but not all day or anything. They last through a coffee, but I need to reapply after a meal. Then again, I am a chronic lip-licker so it probably lasts longer on other people. The applicator is a soft doe-foot which is nice and small so you can easily apply it around your lips for accuracy. There's a really great range of shades too, I want to add many more to my collection! NYX doesn't test on animals but they are owned by L'Oreal which is not a cruelty-free brand, so some shoppers will want to take that into account.

I bought this product in the shade Monte Carlo - a deep red. I had seen a youtube review comparing it with Lime Crime. So for a fraction of the price i gave it a go. It glides on nicely, I found using a lipliner helpful to create a sharp line. The smell is like candy or cookie dough ..its fantastic! It dries to a matte finish and can feel drying. I found putting a little lip balm on underneath helped. It lasts all day - I have eaten, kissed and worked with it on and only had to retouch a teeny bit at the end of the day. You will need a good make up remover to take off at the end of the day. I want to try other shades!

I have one of these in a deep red colour and can wear it on a night out with minimal re-applying which is so amazing! This product glides on really easily and are soooo pigmented it's amazing and especially for how cheap it is as well. I was afraid that this would be drying on my lips but that hasn't been the case so really happy I decided to give this a go!

I have this product in the shade Amsterdam, which is a lovely orangey red shade.

I love the packaging of this product as the shade is the colour of the bottom of the lip product! Brilliant, straight away in my collection I can tell what colour it is. I wish so many other brands did this as well. The top of the product has a rubberised finish which feels a lot like the NARS packaging. I love this though because it makes it easy to get the lid on and off. The doe foot applicator seems a bit smaller than other products I have tried which is great as for such a bright colour it makes it super easy to put on.

The product itself smells amazing, like a vanilla cupcake! But I find the scent doesn't linger once applied which is nice which is nice. I put this on today just to remind myself of how it applies and wears etc. I'm not sure why I don't wear this more often! It applies so easily like a gloss. It doesn't dry down for a wee while so it gives you a bit of time to move it around if you haven't applied it perfectly. I usually put a balm on first to make sure my lips don't dry out and that works for me. I have found that generally the outside of it sets really well but the middle does disappear after eating or drinking. For me that isn't so much of a problem as it is much easier to fill in the middle when you are on the go rather than try and make the lip line perfect.

Overall I really want to purchase more shades of this lip product. I have recently done an order from the NYX website directly through YouShop for some other products that I haven't tried before but my next order will for sure have some different colours of these in there.

I'd heard a lot about these, and so when I spotted a NYX stand during a last-minute dash through Target on holiday I knew I had to grab at least one. I wish I'd bought more!!

I have this in the shade Antwerp, a very pretty, wearable medium pink. The first thig I noticed when I unscrewed the cap was the smell - yummy vanilla, which doesn't last once the product dries but damn it smells good to start!

I'm not normally a fan of doe-foot applicators but it's the perfect choice for this lip cream, allowing for a quick and easy application, perfect for touch-ups!

The formula glides on wet like a cream to dry to a matte finish. The pigmentation is fantastic, you only need one coat of colour. It does take a while to dry so avoid eating, drinking or rubbing your lips together for a bit! Once it is dry, it's pretty long-lasting, a good few hours through light drinking and eating, but worth reapplying after lunch or hot drinks.

I found the formula is slightly drying but not to the extent other matte lippies I have tried. I normally apply a non-gooey lip balm a while before first like Nivea Lip Butter or Sierra Bees before applying it which helps. If dryness hits then I'll apply it over as well but it does unset the formula so it's more like a cream lippy.

I've been wearing this almost every day since I purchased it and will be keeping an eye out online for specials to pick up some more.

I have this in Addis Ababa which is a fuchsia pink. It is a gorgeous colour and no too "out there".

What I love: - the texture, when applying, it feels like a soft mousse, it goes on rather 'slippery' and then it dries to a complete matte - has reasonable lasting power, will last through a meal so long its not a greasy one! - cheap and affordable and comes in a variety of shades - awesome applicator, easy to use - doesn't run, lip liner not required (for me anyways!) - not drying on the lips, doesn't feel 'heavy' either - has a slight scent to it - kind of like vanilla

What I don't like: - not overly opaque on one application, but it does have good coverage/color payoff if you apply a "touch up" layer after it dries

Okay so the swatch I saw online was obviously wrong, because it show Istanbul as being a nude. It is definitely not. It's a mid tone pink, not too bright, but not too deep either.

IT IS BEAUTIFUL. Totally wearable, completely matte, super pigmented and there is no way you can see your natural lip colour through the product. It goes on super easily and then dries completely matte while staying slightly sticky, just enough to keep the lips feeling comfortable without making it so that it goes all over your face. I love the doe foot applicator and I love the way it just glides onto the lips. It smells sweet and yummy. Best part is that you can LAYER it - my only complaint with the Collection Cosmetics lip creams was that you couldn't layer them.

SPEAKING of the Collection Cosmetics lip creams, Istanbul is almost an exact dupe for Cotton Candy from that line. I prefer these over the Collection ones because I feel like they're more comfortable on the lips.

The staying power is really good and it will hold up against most food and drinks. There are SO many shades for anyone and everyone. I adore this line and absolutely want MORE.
