I do like the range of OPI and was keen to try the shatter to create new effects with my nails. I originally had black then silver shatter. It goes on well and dries quickly but does need a top coat to get a nice polished shine look, and last longer. Also doesn't take long before the polish gets a bit gloopy, so buy some thinner to keep it going a bit longer.

This product was well advertised and the effect looked awesome! It came out at a time where nail polish was becoming less boring and more complex than just a coat of glitter on top.
I got the original black one and it was a very cool product! I found it sometimes hard to use and get even across the nail which was really important to getting the right final look. After a few months of owning the product, it got quite thick in the bottle and very hard to apply, so maybe the formula needs a bit of work so that it has a longer shelf life.
I was gifted this product by someone who knows literally nothing about me. I don't know why she bothered, I suppose it was a nice gesture, but I find shatter polish a waste of time and money.
The color I was given was a gorgeous reddy/pink with a bit of shimmer, and I would have fallen in love if it wasn't a shatter. I didn't find the formula overly runny, nor did I find it super thick and gluggy. I applied it over a light peach color and it applied alright, but then it started cracking, and actually cracked the nail polish underneath which I wasn't too happy with.
Overall it looked okay. There was nothing that jumped out at me and said it looked great, and I eventually took it off later that day. The drying time was the average wait. Would I repurchase? No, definitely not.
During the Shatter polish phase I got a couple of cheap two dollar bottles to give it a try. Probably in the last year I saw a couple of bottles on trade me going so I quickly wanted to get them. With OPI being known for their quality I wanted to give this a try.
I have these shatter polishes in both Black and white colours. The bottle is a 15 ml which lasts quite a long time. This nail polish brush is very thick and full. The consistency of this polish is quite thick.
When I apply this polish I like to do a two toned affect underneath with normal nail colour, then go over with this shatter polish. I find it shatters evenly across my nails.
With a top coat this shatter lasted me about 3-4 days. Without a top coat it lasts me about 1-2 days depending on how active I am with my hands. I was lucky to get my nail colour at a bargain on Trade me. I wouldn't buy this for 24.00 dollars. I enjoyed this product. I've gotten so many good comments about it too.
When i first saw this i had to try, now im not a big fan of the cracked look so wouldn't repurchase. It went on nice and evenly and lasted awhile too even longer with a top coat, but i found if i hadnt let my bottom colour of nail polish dry for a few hours sometimes that wiould also crack and look quite tacky, it worked really well when i used an opi nail polish on the bottom if i was going for the two toned effect. If your into the funky cracked look this is defintely something i would recommend.
Tips: If your going for a two toned cracked look make sure you let your bottom color layer dry for a couple of hours, also for the bottom layer i found using opi worked best (probably because opi is good quaility) and top coat it! lasts so much longer
I LOVED shatter polish when it first came on the market but it didnt take long before the nail polish became thick and glumpy and hard to apply. I no longer use it and just stick with feature nails :)
OPI's Shatter nail polish is foolproof to apply and the look is exactly as advertized, which doesn't happen very often! I loved Black Shatter so much I went back and bought several other colors. I had so much fun experimenting and I got loads of compliments! Why the low rating then? Well, within about 2 months they all dried out! completely useless! I was so disappointed and had to throw them out. I suppose I would buy again if I was planning to use it all in a short period of time.
This product works perfectly until it doesn't work at all.
I dont really like shatter so im not sure if that effects my opinion of this product but I found it hard to use. It went kind of chalky looking when dry and pooled in areas more then others. I have black, so a tricky colour to use but for me it just didnt work! I paid $8 at The Warehouse so not full price but still I wont use it again. The bottle like all OPI is a nice design and very sturdy.
Tips: Try blowing on them, to help it set a bit better.
Shatter nail polish is a trend that seems to have come and gone, which is a shame because I think it is a great way for anyone to be able to create a more complicated looking manicure.
To use shatter polish you first put down a solid colour then once that has dried put the shatter colour on top. It goes on like a normal nail polish but then immediately begins to shatter over the nail. You can either apply the shatter coat thinly for thinner lines of thick if you want thicker lines.
It's a really cool concept and OPI has led the way in terms of the quality of the nail polish. However at the end of the day, it does still chip like any other nail polish. It didn't leave my nails yellow however, so for me that raises it above the other brands.
i think this was really good and better than like all the other brands i tried. It didnt like clump and get hard and gross on my nail. it was smooth and easy to put on. it lasted long too. all the others that i tried were hard after a while and i regretted buying them. Also i like how i can get alot of colours like red where other brands only had like silver.
