I will start off saying that I don't knownignit was me and my 'technique' or of this is just crap but I wasn't impressed with the look after. I spent the 15 dollars I read instructions and it looked like ass. Not what I was expecting especially because of all the hype around this product. I will never stray from my usual 'boring' plain nail polish again. Lesson learnt!

This was such a big deal when Katy Perry wore it that everyone I knew just had to have it, and I bought three bottles on sale. I have to say, I was not that impressed. They were hard to use and to get to shatter properly. Too thick an application and it won't shatter at all, too thin and the shatter is so fine that it isn't really visible. After several tries, I could only get the black shatter to work properly - the red shatter and gold shatter were a bit too sheer for the shatter to show up properly. In real life, it doesn't look that great either, it sort of looks like your nails are chipping. It does last a while though. The look is also so trendy that its pretty much on its way out.
Tips: Do your base coat of color a few days before you apply the shatter polish. Your base coat needs to be well and truly dry, otherwise the shatter polish re-liquifies it. Also, do a top coat of clear polish to make the final effect look less like just chipped polish.
I love OPI and particularly the new polishes and formulas they are bringing out that aren't your standard gloss, glitter or creme. Shatter was a "miss" for me. It was hard to get the right amount of formula on your nail and for me, it would "crack" inconsistently. The bottle of polish dried up really quickly too and was just a waste of money.
I bought this when it was new out & everyone was wearing it. Only used it once & once was enough. The polish didn't shatter very well & didn't give the desired affect.
Sadly this polish was a fashion trend. When it first came out i purchased the black and white OPI shatter, and changed between the colours almost daily. Although i don't really use it anymore, my little sister's still love them. I think the younger generation is still in love with this product :)
The polish can be a little difficult to apply, it cannot be too thick but i also can't be too thin (i think practice makes perfect). Start with a base colour, and apply a thin even coat over your nails and apply a even coat of shatter overtop and watch it shatter. For a finished look, finish it off with a glossy top coat.
I felt that the White OPI shatter tended to get very gluggy over time i'm not sure why this was, the black one stayed thin and in good condition.
I think they retail for about $25.00 (which i think is remarkably expensive), but keep an eye out at the Warehouse for sales.
I personally don't think the product is worth $25.00 a bottle, they need to work on their formula to expect this kind of money. It takes practice to perfect this look, make sure you apply fast and don't put two layers on or it won't crackle.
When this first came out i went and brought some ASAP! although it was nice for a while and lasted well the polish itself in the bottle did not last, looked after very well and eventually just gets all gunky and thick. Personally wouldn't use again, the trend has passed on a bit and sort of feels like a waste of money due to polish not lasting very well.
So, I trailed this product for a couple of weeks for my Armageddon costume (I was going as an anime inspired punk rocker), and this was the nail polish I was using purely for the fact it created the shatter effect. So I used a black underlay and then the white OPI Shatter.
The good thing about this product is that it created a good shatter effect, which is why I gave it a 4/5.
HOWEVER this product felt VERY heavy on my nails, it chipped off to easy with the top and base over coat.
Even though everyone was wearing this product, I thought it looked tacky. Hence why I never used it up until today.
I will never go back to it and the only recommendation I would give to anyone it's great to use a punk inspired costume, however I don't think proper punks would use this polish as it takes to many coats to apply. Next time you want a tacky looking nail just peel the nail polish of your nails. That looks better.
Tips: With an undercoat, and a top coat this product is easy to remove, without the under/top coat the product is stubborn to remove. So choose which is best for your wear, if it's for a week or just a day.
At my local Warehouse they had these for two dollars as parallel imports so I bought the gold and the silver. I wasn't sure how to feel about the quality because even though I really like OPI as a brand, the cheap price seemed a little too good to be true. And it was. The shatter started cracking and chipping after about a day and I could actually just scratch my nails and the polish would fall off. Definitely not up to OPI's usual standard but at least I didn't waste too much money.
i hate this nail polish, it chips off so easy and never looks good. i brought two bottles and have used both of them a few times but i cant stand it, every time i look at them theres less and less polish there! why even waste your time
Tips: dont buy it and avoid dissapointment
this opi nail polish goes thick very fast and also will dry if bottle is left open too long. I myself am not a big fan of shatter but out of all shatter once put on this has to be one of the better ones to use
