think I grew out of the phase

OPI Shatter nail polish, I remember that was the hype when they first came out. Everyone went crazy for them and I was one of those people. I mustve had like almost 10, all different coloured shatter, all blew my mind. I think the OPI Shatter nail polish is definitely very cool, very edgy and gets people looking which is always good. I just believe I've grown out of that phase of my life and now tend to stay more towards pastel and calm nail designs :)

Tips: When applying the shatter coat onto the nail, be sure to be as still as possible as it works best with just one coat. Two coats starts to mess the shatter look up abit.

A trend to try

I bought these when they first came out, been a pretty stoic OPI customer. From memory OPI were the first polish brand to make these type of polishes, and they were very popular at the time.

Like most early adopters, I have the black shade, though it later became available in a number of colours.

It is easy to apply, but does take a bit of practice to get the shatter effect quite right. I did rock shatter effect nails for a while, but have since destashed it to my sister who has quite the OPI collection of her own.

A fun trend and unique trend to try, but one that has fallen out of favour now.

Helps make my polish last

Shatter polish was a popular trend in nail polish around 2013-2014 I think, before nail art took over. I thought it looked cool, so towards the end of the trend I bought 2 shatter polishes on sale: Black and Silver.

I still wear them. The way I like to use them is to apply them to my regular polish once it starts to wear off, thereby extending the life of my nail polish. This way I can wear ordinary polish for about a week, and then get a couple of days extra wear by applying the shatter polish (silver or black depending on whether I am wearing light or dark polish) which handily covers up any chipping around the edges of the nails. I know the trend is over, but I still think it looks cool.

Tips: Applying the polish takes practice. You don't want to much, or too little, on your brush. Also, try to apply it in no more than 3 swipes, otherwise when it "shatters" it will look streaky instead of marbled.

OPI Shatter

I purchased the black shatter nail polish when it first came out and I really liked it, i tried it over a lot of colours from OPI. It was really fun to watch it form the shatter effect. When applying onto my nails I had to make sure I had a good amount on the brush and only do one coat because it doesn't work very well if you apply more coats, it goes streaky and doesn't shatter properly. I also noticed it started going really thick in the bottle and was hard to apply so had to throw it out after awhile. Probably won't buy it again I prefer my nails just one colour but maybe one day if they still have it I would purchase it for my daughter to try.

Hit and Miss

I really love Opi but struggle with the shatter series. Some of the colours are terribly hit and miss whether you can get them to shatter- let alone get them to look good.

Tips: Google/ youtube to watch others for the best technique in how to use it and the best results. . Otherwise you can get frustrated very easily and waste a whole lot of time , energy and product.

Not a fan

I really havent liked this product from the day it came out. I managed to buy me one, I was so excited to give this new Shatter Nail Polish a try, I think it being a new look to the normal nail polishes is what made me so excited about it.

I got the white color one because I thought it would work well with most of the colors I had. When applying,I felt that it gave a rough and ruggered look too my nails, and made my hands feel dirty, the layer was quite thick looking on my nails and didn't suite them at all. Wasnt a fan, but desperately wanted a similar look to the nails showen on the pictures, I then decided to give another go and I brought the black. Wasn't a fan of that color either. Wouldnt buy again

Not pretty

It simply does not do it's job, I tried multiple times but the shatter just did not work on my nails, it looks thick and messy and unattractive.

Meh - good for a feature finger

I brought this just after it got released and thought it was the coolest thing ever! It got me addicted to painting my nails again, it worked great the first few times but it quickly became thick and lumpy.

Once it changed its consistency it didn't apply well or 'shatter' as well as it did on day one. I would understand this happening over time but more like a few months into the product not the first few weeks. I enjoyed it whilst it lasted and I did re-purchase another one in a silver shade which I often used as a feature finger design but the same thing happened and I ended up tossing it.

Overall it was fun to play with but at the price I would recommend waiting for it to go on sale or if they happen to have a mini size go for that instead. I wont be repurchasing.

It works

I have had several Shatter polishes and I do like the effect.

It's easy to use, but because it dries so quickly you do have to apply it fast. But the upside of that is you can put a clear top coat on pretty much straight away, and it enhances the colour and protects the finish.

Sadly, after a few uses you will notice that the polish will get thick and gluggy and you will have to spend a bit of time shaking it to get it to a nice consistency.

I went through my nail polishes a few months ago and found all my Shatters had dried right up, so it's one of those products you will need to use regularly if you want to actually get your money's worth.

I will buy again, but probably only on sale.

Umm nope.

Tried this and found that the "shatter" part makes the nail looks dirty or something. I love most of OPI range - but nah for this one.
