Oral-B iO Series 9 Electric Toothbrush

First, I just want to acknowledge how lucky I was to be chosen for this trial, and thank BR for the opportunity. Thank you, Team! This toothbrush is amazing. I feel like I've been to the dentist for a thorough clean every day.

Opening the box, I'll admit to feeling a little daunted. There were so many attachments, and the instruction leaflet was a lot thicker than I was expecting. But after a quick read-through, it became clear there was nothing to fear! The reason for the extended instruction manual is for all the extra bells and whistles this toothbrush offers, but for everyday, they aren't necessary.

The set-up of the app on my phone was simple with the bluetooth within the brush syncing immediately. The app then takes you through set-up in a few quick and easy steps. I highly recommend not skipping this step, as this is where you'll get the superior clean.

The app will ask you to brush first. This is to 'teach' it how you brush, and then it will give you a coverage percentage score. I was horrified to be given a score of 85%. So, 15% had been missed or cleaned too lightly all these years! Never fear, the app and brush combined will take you through a thorough routine, complete with real-time imagery of where and how each section of teeth are being brushed. The sensors in the brush itself tell you if you're brushing too hard or too light, and the picture on the app 'sparkles' when you've achieved the perfect attention to each section. I found this to be invaluable, and am pleased to report with this help, I'm now achieving a 100% score, and I'm left with teeth that feel like I've just visited the dentist for a clean. So smooth and shiny! I'm looking forward to prolonged use of this super-brush to see what other benefits it'll give me over time. Less plaque build-up, better over-all healthy mouth, and whiter teeth is what I'm expecting if these early results are anything to go by.

This is the first time I've ever had a product to review that has had an immediate impact. I've had a basic Braun electric toothbrush for years and ironically it had just started to die right before I got the iO9 to review. I just did not realise how different the experience would be with this new brush. Even without the app and gamification, just the pure brushing experience was so much nicer.

Opening the box you can tell everything is quality (which you'd expect when you're spending $500+ for a brush!). The brush itself feels solid but ergonomic. The charging travel case is such a bonus (and I even got to try that out). Even the box feels classy!

I downloaded the app before I even got the brush but didn't really look at it much beforehand. But having it's help to guide my brushing, both from a time point of view, pressure and location, was transformative. I never realised a) how mush longer I need to brush my teeth for; b) how I used to put way too much pressure on my brushing, and c) how unevenly I brushed my teeth. Until the brush and app told me.

The added gamification keeps you focused on your routine consistently for a number of days. I'm part way through my first 28-day "journey" and I'm determined to see it through. But I also already have 7 medals in my pot.

Competitive? Me? Nooooooooooo!!!

This is a fantastic toothbrush that has transformed my brushing routine. But would I pay $500 for it? I don't think so. To be honest an online tutorial video would achieve *some* of the same things, although it wouldn't have the same educational impact on the pressure you apply. But you can buy cheaper brushes that just use the LED indicator to tell you that you're brushing too hard (hubby has one).

WOW hands down the best toothbrush I have EVER used in my 42 years of life! After the first brush it felt like I’d been to the hygienist. But…let’s start at the beginning. The toothbrush comes in a box that is extremely secure and takes a bit of time to unpack. I took my time and read through all the ‘paperwork’ that came with. This is the bit that caused the ‘but’. The instructions are very ‘light’, and it isn’t clear how to set up the toothbrush. Through trial and error, I had it synced to my phone in about 15min. The instructions are missing the bit that explains how to move from each screen in the menu and save your selections. The device is larger than I assumed, and I thought the brush head was large, but it all works seamlessly. I really enjoyed watching my technique IRL on my phone and the brush lights up if you are using too little or too much pressure. The brush gently vibrates every 30 second to indicate you can move to the next section for brushing. At the end of 2 minutes, it has a longer vibration but doesn’t turn off so you can keep brushing if you want. I found the programme motivated me to want to see if I could improve my score for the next brush. I’ve only used the daily clean option but will experiment with the others over the next week. I wanted to stay consistent to see the results and after just one day it's amazing! For what it does I think the price is worth it. I didn’t realise that if you don’t initiate the brushing session on your phone you won’t get any assessment of your session. There isn’t anything about that in the instructions. The brush does sync and register that you’ve brushed your teeth and the time, but you get no scoring. I did find it frustrating that the date and time on the app are wrong and apparently this is a bug that Oral B are looking at – after some searching online how to fix it. Overall, this is a very impressive toothbrush and I’ve very grateful that I got the chance to review it.

First off, what an incredible trial to be a part of! This is one of the most generous and awesome trials I have ever completed. I am completely head over heels, sold on this toothbrush! I have used electric toothbrushes for a long time, they have good coverage and very convenient. Well, this toothbrush experience is a game changer! The packaging exudes quality, it is such a sexy gadget (if one can say that about a toothbrush!?). It comes with a wireless charging dock, a wall charger for the travel case, a spare head and a case for the 2 heads. The toothbrush itself is heavier than the standard ones. The brush head is easy to attach. I found the instructions lacking and had to Google for info. I downloaded the app and played around with settings, which I'm still having tutu with. The other area that I wonder about is cleaning inside the toothbrush shaft when the brush connects, water could pool there if not kept clean. So once you figure out your preferred settings, it's time to turn on. When used in conjunction with the app, it shows you 6 quadrants of your mouth and while brushing with alert to the area being cleaned and completed. That is a pretty cool visual to have. You get to set how firm you want it if you have sensitive teeth and vibrates when time is up. The brushing experience is so amazing! The only other time I have felt my teeth so clean is from the dentists. I feel so confident in my smile and my breath! It has a mode for cleaning your tongue and guides your oral hygiene with suggesting on the app to rinse and floss. The app also rates your cleaning to 100 and makes suggestions if you don't reach 100%. I am utterly in love with the product and still can't believe I was one of the lucky recipients! My breath has never been as fresh!

I was lucky enough to be selected to trial this amazing toothbrush. I had previously been using the cheapest Oral B Electric Brush and thought that did a great job and was skeptical on how this could be any better. I was wrong! This brush is amazing. The head vibrates faster and the different modes change the speed. Intense lived up to its name - this was much too strong for me. I have tried all the settings and the Daily Clean seems sufficient, I personally can't tell the difference between that and Whitening. Intense makes the brush feel like it spinning super fast while Sensitive and Super Sensitive are a much gentler Clean.

I have been using it with the app which I highly recommend. I am currently doing one of the daily program challenges it let's you select from - this prompts you to do all the steps in your Oral care routine such as flossing and cleaning your tongue. The guided tooth cleaning system is also great - again I was thinking I am not that dedicated to toothbrushing to use an app... again I was wrong. As you brush it changes the colour of the teeth on the screen from Blue to White. This ensures you brush all areas - I don't believe I have ever cleaned the inside of my teeth as much. This app would also be great for children so they learn how to brush properly from the beginning.

The difference in mouth feel after use is outstanding. My teeth feel as smooth as if I just had a professional dentist Clean. The brush also lasts a long time between charging. I have been using it for 6 days now and have only just had to put it on charge - it arrived on 48%. So I believe the claims of it lasting 14 days before it needs charging to be accurate- perfect for traveling you won't need to take the charger. The charger itself is also an improvement on the entry level brush - simply stand it on it and the magnet puts the brush in the right spot.

The only downfall for me is the price point. I think $750 for a toothbrush puts it out of reach of many people. However if you can afford it I would highly recommend it.

To get the 'negative' out of the way...this is expensive. This is a $750 investment - but I think in terms of results, the investment in your oral hygiene is well worth it!

I love the black handle and brush - it's very classy. It does show up toothpaste debris, but that's a reminder to wipe it down haha.

It's pretty intuitive to 'plug and play' with this, and I confess I did that instead of downloading the app or reading the instructions first!

The clean of this is unbeatable. Even without the app, my teeth felt incredibly clean - I just opted for the daily clean mode to start and my teeth felt incredible through the day, and again when I woke up in the morning.

The app definitely allows you to up your brushing game, telling you where you rush, areas you need to pay more attention to etc. It's pretty cool, and if you were a 'sticker chart' kid, you'll love earning medals for brushing your teeth.

Truly an incredible trial team to be a part of, I can't thank BR or Oral-B enough. I will be purchasing replacement heads and using this until it dies, but the quality suggests it will outlive me!

I used to use a manual toothbrush - just a Colgate basic one. I'm a bit of a rough brusher, and brush my teeth 3-4 times a day at least.

I am not normally a lover of packaging, but by golly-gosh do Oral-B make a good box. I mean, it's a box that even if you emptied it, you'd begrudge throwing away. As it is, my box is under the sink with the plug and cases still in it.

Apparently the battery will last 2 weeks - I just throw mine on charge whenever I'm not using it. The charger is magnetic, the brush does feel a little wobbly on it but it holds.

The travel case has a usb charger which is pretty cool so if you're going away you don't need to take the charger!

The app is a cool addition to brushing your teeth, I think its so interesting that something you do twice a day or more; you're probably doing it ineffectively or inefficiently. I've been making conscious adjustments to my brushing pressure and technique.

I use daily clean mode at night and whiten in the morning - my teeth feel so much cleaner, even hours after brushing and look whiter, which has surprised me.

It's funny because I wouldn't have considered spending 750 on a toothbrush before this, but now I'm buying one for my pre-teens to use, I think it'll be the best money I've ever spent on them!

This is the coolest thing. I never realised how much I was favouring certain areas of my mouth, or applying too much pressure on certain spots - really enlightening. It is also really comfortable to hold, handy for travel (the charging carry case is genius!) and the light changes colour when you're applying too much or too little pressure which is great. I'm really excited to keep using this and hopefully seeing some improvement in my dental health and hygiene! A bit weird having to remember my phone every time I brush my teeth, but I am getting used to it. I do find it quite a messy process compared to standard brushing, but perhaps I just need to practise my technique.

I am absolutely in love with this toothbrush. It is an absolute game changer and has changed the way I brush my teeth. I am now excited every time I go to brush my teeth.

The toothbrush by itself is pretty awesome, with its LED screen which tells you good morning/ good evening and keeps track of how long you are brushing your teeth for. It vibrates every 30 seconds and lets you know when it has been two minutes. The pressure sensor is amazing. The toothbrush lights up red when you are brushing too hard, green for when you are using the right amount of pressure and white for not enough pressure. This toothbrush has shown me that I use too little pressure when brushing my teeth.

The interchangeable heads have little symbols on them (paper plane and a diamond) so you can track which one you have, or if you and another person want to share the base you could interchange the heads and not loose track of whose is whose. It comes with a wireless charger, so there is no hassle with trying to plug it in, you just place it on top of it. I have had no issues with battery power. It also comes with a cute rechargeable travel case, which is so handy to take away with you, so you don't have to take the charger away with you.

Now the app. You can download the Oral B app on your phone. That is the cherry on top. It takes brushing your teeth to the next level, it shows you where you are brushing, it splits your teeth up into six sections and if you use the app while brushing your teeth, the sections turn from grey to sparkling white once you have cleaned each area enough. The app gives you a score out of 100% for how well you have brushed your teeth, it includes how well you brushed each section, if you used too much pressure and how long you brushed your teeth for. I haven't played around too much on the app but I've been using the reducing bad breath setting and it gives you advice on what to do for that along with a daily remind to floss and use mouthwash daily.

I have been using this twice daily for just under a week. Overall I have noticed a significant change in the colour of my teeth, they look a lot whiter. My teeth feel constantly clean and smooth. I have only ever used a manual toothbrush before and after using this one, I don't think I could switch back.

I previously had braces and have got a non-removable support wire behind my teeth that makes it really had to brush the back part of my teeth, since using the toothbrush I am finding it so much easier to clean.

I absolutely love this toothbrush and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comprehensive clean to their teeth.

I didn’t know a toothbrush could be luxurious until I tried this one!

For context, before this brush I was using a manual toothbrush. After using this brush, my teeth felt noticeably cleaner. Not quite trip to the hygienist clean, but not far off.

This brush was quieter than electric toothbrushes I have used before which can’t be a bad thing. Another cool technical feature is that the toothbrush lights up red if you are using too much pressure on your teeth. The brush also vibrates every 30 seconds which is helpful for letting you know when to move to a different area of your mouth.

I really like the different programmes you can pick on the toothbrush. I’ve been using the sensitive programme and the whitening programme. Both programmes left my teeth feeling super clean and my gums didn’t bleed/weren’t irritated. I really don’t understand how, but I feel like the whitening programme has made my teeth slightly whiter which is amazing.

I’m a big fan of the accessories that come with this brush. There’s a covered stand type of thing you put in your brush head on when you’re not using it which is great. There’s also a carry case kind of thing that would be perfect for travel.

The last electric toothbrush I used needed to be charged around twice a week which got a bit annoying. The battery seems to be pretty solid on this toothbrush. I’ve been using the brush everyday for over a week and there is still plenty of battery. It seems like a full charge will last two plus weeks, which is fab.

I’ve used the app alongside the toothbrush a couple of times and it’s pretty cool. It shows you when you’ve brushed certain areas enough which makes brushing your teeth feel like a game! You can also set up other cool things on the app like reminders to buy new toothbrush heads at a particular time.

If I could suggest any improvements, it would be good if the toothbrush heads were a bit more individually identifiable. They have small different symbols on the bottom, but if you plan to share this toothbrush with someone and use different heads, it might be difficult to tell who’s head is who’s.

I know it’s an expensive product, but if you’re looking for top of the line, this is it.
