Soft Ochre Paint Pot

THE PRODUCT: I usually tend to use my concealer as an eye lid primer but find that by using this paint pot my eyeshadow shades tend to stand out alot more as it gives the lid such a good base to work on. I do have to set the paint pot straight away with a skintone colour eye shadow or a translucent powder before going in with other shadows but this is great to cancel out any pigmentation that might be on my lids. It is a creamy texture and very easy to blend without too much tugging on the lid. If I feel as though I have used too much product I will go in with my beauty blender and sheer it out abit more. I sometimes use the paint pot to carve out my brows are well depending on the look I am going for and find it works great for that as it is so easy to get clean precise placement with the right brush.

PACKAGING: The small glass jar is filled with the product then a black screw top lid. I find this packing works great and it is easy to clean if product gets on top of it.

OVERALL RATING: 9/10

Tips: Use a very small amount at a time (little goes a long way).

Painterly

I've been using this creamy eyeshadow pot as an eyelid base/primer now for a few years and have found nothing that offers such coverage and flawless start for my eyeshadows in any other brand.

These creamy textures in painterly are very close to my skin tone and offer no shimmer, drying matte to provide a nice clean, even and creaseproof base for my eye looks. I do give it a dust with translucent powder to speed up drying and provide a good blending platform for shadows, then there is never a stubborn shadow that can not be blended into submission.

Easy on, easy off, and provides security that my eyeshadows appear bright, balanced and adds some length to their wear without staining or drying my eyelids out. I would imagine the shimmers in the range would be great as an attention-grabbing pop of colours on your lids as a shadow alone.

Rubenesque

Admittedly I bought this pre-tested from trademe as I wanted to try the paint pot without spending a lot. I had tried some on in the MAC store but was not impressed with the way it applied and wanted to see for myself, using my own brushes. As a daily user of Color Tattoo, I find this particular paint pot a good formula. It doesn't like adhering to my brush but after a bit of a spin with the bristles I can capture enough to apply. Many cream eyeshadows don't like being applied by brush but I have small eyes and using a fingertip doesn't achieve a tidy result. Anyway... rubenesque is a pink gold metallic shade and it's very pretty on my fair skin, next to my blue eyes. Usually I apply Beige color tattoo as a base and then add this for more depth. I will be buying more of these !

Best Primer Eye Primer

This is another product I brought simply because I had heard awesome things about it. I grabbed the shade painterly because that seems to be the one most talked about.

This product comes in a small heavy glass jar, with a black lid and the word mac printed on the side. The lid twists off to reveal a creamy looking product.

This eye shadow is cream based but thick and solid. I would describe it as having a similar consistency to solid concealers. The colour painterly is a neutral beige colour and honestly nothing special in relation to its colour.

I use this as an eye primer and it work wonders at providing my eyelid with coverage, aswell as the perfect base for eyeshadows and this product make my eyeshadow last a long time (atleast 8 hours)

The only regret I have with this product is the shade. I chose the shade painterly because everyone else had that shade but the colour is a little to white for my skintone and I really should have grabbed the colour soft orche instead. At least I will know for next time.

Painterley

I purchased this after having problems with a few shadows creasing on my oily lids. I had previously only used a drugstore primer (Essence) and assumed the creasing was because my primer was not up to the task.

This primer comes in a small glass jar which seems ridiculously tiny for the price but being that you only use the tiniest amount each time is probably quite economical. Its texture is reminiscent of Maybelline Colour tattoo shadows, and is best applied with the fingertip as the warmth of your hand helps to blend this easily and seamlessly into your lid. I find that this neutralises any redness and veins on my lid perfectly. It also doesn't feel sticky or wet after application so you can jump straight to eyeshadow application.

This isn't a miracle product, if an eyeshadow is going to crease on my lids it will do so on me with this primer or a cheaper alternative (although perhaps to a slightly less obvious degree). In terms of longevity and intensity of the shadows on my lids, this performed well, but was very comparable in this respect to the Essence primer. This shows that while this is a very effective primer, there are alternatives available on the market which perform very similarly. This is my only deterrent from recommending this to others.

Painterly - perfect eye base

I brought this at a MAC counter after seeing so many vloggers and reviewers say how it works brilliantly as a eyelid primer and I soon realised that they were totally right!

Packaging wise this eyeshadow comes in a chunky but short small round glass pot with the black matte textured lid that screws on and off. The glass feels and looks heavy with the shadow sitting in a well inside the glass. Just big enough to get your index finger into to dab onto your eyelids, or a suitable brush.

Formula wise this shadow feels stiff in it's poured into place state but with the heat from your skin it melts into a softer creamy texture that once on your lids acts to smooth out any fine creases and balances the tone of the lid.

Using painterly which is a soft ochre shade that is blends into my eyelid shade to cover the purple, blue areas and hides the small visible veins from having such thin skin there. I can then use this as a base to hold any other shadow I place over top to have more lasting power and higher impact of colour. It also helps when applying liquid liner as the area is smoother to draw upon.

Ideal on it's own or used as a primer base for other shadows this is an essential for any makeup junkies kit.

Holy Grail Product

I have of these, one in Painterly and one in Tailor Grey. Not a SINGLE day that I am wearing makeup goes by without one of these being used. Painterly is the best skin toned primer/base that I have, anbd is used accordingly. Tailor Grey I use in two ways; as a darker primer/base for smoky looks, or through my brows. They are awesome, and incredibly long-wearing when set!

Tips: Buy them all, love them all. Can be worn alone, set with translucent powder, or as bases for shadows. Also, as above, through your brows if you find a suitable shade. They're awesome! xxx

amazing

I love this product to chuck in your bag or even for traveling, you dont even need to use a brush to apply this, you can use your finger and it blends out like a dream. i put it all over my lid when I'm in a rush and it takes seconds! lasts all day on my oily eyelids, if you want to go for a even more pigmented look, you could set it with a eyeshadow thats a similar colour, you dont actually need to set it as it drys from a cream to a powder. Its small so perfect for on the go!

MAC Eyeshadow Pot

This a smooth creamy eyeshadow packaged in a small glass jar. I own the shade Rubenesque, it is champagne gold kind of colour suitable for a neutral look. These shadows go on very smoothly when applied by finger, and have a good lasting power, I also use it as an eyeshadow base when I'm doing an evening makeup look so that I get a more intense colour payoff with other eyeshadows. The quantity is quite generous so it will last a long time.
