Impressed!

I have long, coarse and thick hair which I’ve always found hard to curl with even high end brand straighteners.I though I’d give the Remington Curl and Straight a go and have been quite impressed so far.

It took a much shorter time to curl my hair because of the shape of the plates. Just flick the wand 180 degrees and pull down slowly. It took me a few practices to work out how much hair to curl or straighten, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a great product! I think this will be amazing to take for traveling as well being a 2 in 1 product.

Love that you can choose the temperature and it heats up very quickly.

Tips: The wand can get quite hot so definitely take advantage of the cool tip, this also helps to grip your hair in place better.

Great Multi Tool!

I won this through Beauty Review, thanks so much! It comes in a big box which has information on how to use it. It looks cool, like someone has grabbed it and twisted it. It makes you think how on earth can this make my hair straight.

I like that the temperature can be adjusted. I have been using it on 190° which seems to be perfect for my hair. It has a brilliantly long swivel cord and comes with a heat resistant cover.

I have very long hair which has a bit of a wave so I do like to straighten it, this works so well.  You just simply clamp your hair and slowly pull down, the result is beautifully straight, sleek looking hair. It lasts all day too.

Now the curling part, I have had to play around with this a bit more. Simply clamp the hair and either turn inwards or outwards 180° and slowly pull down.  It took me a few goes before I got the hang of it but practice makes perfect.

This is a great styling tool, easy to pop in your bag when travelling as it is very light and doesn't take up much room.  I like that it has multiple uses, I am super stoked to have this.

Remington Curl & Straight

I received this Remington curl & straight to trial and give my review. Upon opening, I wondered to myself if it would actually straighten my hair seeing as this has twisted plates. But it really did straighten my hair, and didn’t fry my ends. This is probably due to the small plastic bristles down each side. Curling my hair was so easy too. Being able to grip the other end without burning my fingers made it a breeze and I didn’t have to worry. I really loved the temperature control, unlike other straighteners and curlers that have a button to put the temperature up and down, this one has a bit at the bottom to twist one way and the other which is the temperature control. Overall I really enjoyed this. And I will continue to use

Tips: You’d need a heat pad to set this straightener on once your done, due to the plates being twisted it doesn’t lay flat

A learning curve

Thanks BR for the chance to review this!

The Curl and Straight is such a strange looking tool - I'm used to flat straighteners and round curling tongs. This is a bit of both with it's uniquely curved plates. But then again, if we want a tool that both straightens and curls, maybe it should look like a mix of both!

Firstly can I say I LOVED the cord length - nearly 2 metres which gives you freedom of movement. Nothing worse than a too-short cord when you've got your arms in unnatural angles whilst trying to style the back of your head!

I also love the positioning of the controls - no accidentally turning these off (it's not just me that does that right?!)

These are light to hold and fit nicely into the palm of my hand. It felt ok using with either hand.

I found both straightening and curling a bit difficult at first - youtube was my friend, and after playing and practising for a while I began to understand the slight movements and positioning necessary.

I can now confidently straighten, curl and wave my hair with these, quickly and easily and I actually find the movement needed easier than trying to curl with straighteners

I think the requirement to learn a new technique might be offputting to some but I urge you to make a date with youtube and your mirror, and give them a second, third and maybe even a fourth try. When it clicks, you'll wonder how you survived without them!

Tips: Get a heat resistant mat to use during use, you can't lay these without the hot plates touching the surface they're on.

Love this beauty tool!!!!

I purchased this as my old straighteners were just that - old!! And didn't have temperature control and they were burning my poor hair :(

So I got these on special and paid $129 which for me a quite a lot of money as we are on 1 wage with a 7 year old. I had to save up to get it so was really hoping it did what it said!!!

It came in quite a big box with a bit of plastic which wasn't great but mainly cardboard so could be recycled :) My hair is fairly short-ish at the back and longer front and sides (sort of a graduated bob) and I have naturally straight hair and use straighteners to smooth and also to curl to add volume.

The straighteners look really nice colour wise - I did at first think they looked a bit cheapish? But once I had a play with them and felt them in my hands, not so much. I LOVE the 360 degree swivel cord! Makes it so much easier to use them and not worry about the cord getting tangled around. I love the locking function it works really well - having the power button on the inside is also fantastic as you can't bump it by mistake.

So I really like the variable heat settings from 150-230 degrees, I really only use the 150 as my hair got a bit damaged from my old straighteners so need to give it extra TLC at the moment. The 150 degree setting works really well though as I have fairly fine hair and don't need too much heat.

The plates are really nice - I was a bit weary of the teeth though as I had read that they can be annoying and catch and pull your hair. So to be honest that did happen when I first used it and pulled a bit of my hair out haha - but as I got used to using it (and my hair wasn't as dry) they worked much better and the teeth are really more of a guide to separate your hair when using them.

The long cord is again really handy and one of the best features for me is the storage sleeve!! Sounds silly but I've never had one and will never be without one again!!

I used it to both straighten and curl my hair - it did take a wee bit of practice to curl but once I got used to it, they work wonderfully! It heats up quickly and I can get my hair curled in the morning in record time now :)

Full price I think a wee bit pricey for me anyway at $249.00 RRP but on special worth it. The 5 year warranty makes a big difference too.

Really love these straighteners although I know some people don't feel the same, I would recommend.

Tips: Keep trying if you feel like you can't curl with them as it really just takes practice. I didn't really love them when I first used them but now I do!

Hey @sarahwaughnz! It did take me a while to get used to using these for curling, but honestly once you get the hang of it, it's really easy! But these are basically the same as a normal straightener and I can also curl using a normal straightener

Is it easier to curl with these than straighteners? No matter how much I practice, I cannot get the hang of curling with ghds so wondering if this would be easier. Thanks :)

Curl and straight made easy!

I was very very excited about this straightener, due to the different curved plates! I wondered how it could straighten and curl at the same time. The straightener itself is a gorgeous grey and rose gold combo that I really like! It has the temperature control at the bottom, instead of buttons, so you twist it left or right to change the temperature. This is to stop unintentionally changing the temp! So clever. It’s also got a lock function and grip handles at the top so you can hold at both ends, which I really like for good control. The box it came in was also quite pretty and had some good pictorials of how to use it to curl or straighten. It’s really easy to use- turn on the power button and twist the dial at the bottom. I couldn’t tell how fast it got to temperature, as I expected it to beep when it got to the temperature I set it at, however it didn’t so I had to keep checking it. That’s probably one of the only things I didn’t like about it! It was super easy to use- both to curl and to straighten! I did it in small sections as I usually do and my hair just glided through it so easily! It wasn’t hard to get my hair through at all and it came out nice and straight. I felt that it straightened my hair really well! For some sections I had to go over it a couple of times, but no more than usual- less so if anything! It’s got wee comb-like teeth at the edges, so it sort of combs your hair as it straightens it, which I thought was a cool wee feature. I felt that my hair stayed relatively straight throughout the rest of the day as well. For the curls- I like that you can use it to make tight or loose/beachy curls! It was really easy to use to curl as well and they came out so pretty!! They also stayed (with some help from hairspray, as I usually would). Overall I was really impressed by this product- that it was able to straighten and curl with the curved plates! It was also extremely easy to use. I felt that my hair mostly stayed straight or curly throughout the day as well. I will defo continue to use it as I have been liking it so far!

Tips: Make sure to rest it on something heat proof and be aware as it doesn’t beep when it’s up to temp :)

Not sold as yet...

Firstly Id like to say how grateful I am to review this product. I love doing curls with my hair and my favourite tong is a remington. Trouble is, I just cant get the hang of this, I have tried and tried, googled and watched tutorials on youtube. I can only get a small resemblance of a wave when I take the smallest section, which if I did my whole head would take FOREVER and be no match to my trusty Remington tong. For me the problem with this product is the teeth combs that are on the top and bottom of the plates. I WISH these were removable, my hair is not fine but full and this catches and drags unless I take the smallest of sections.

This product seems to be a good straightner however, apart from those teeth which are such a pain. They make the device catch and drag to the point where its painful if it catched.

Would I recommend? Im not sold on this just yet, I need more practise and will update if I can get the hang of it. At the moment I dont think this is the miracle that I hoped, and will just need to keep practising curling with my straightner.

Not Such an Effortless Glide

My hair type is long, fine, coloured and dry. I'm no novice to hair tools, my hair is blow dried and straightened daily and I'll curl it occasionally (usually with a curling wand) for events.

I was super keen to review this product given how often I use heat styling. It's such a unique design, and the thought of combining two tools was very exciting, especially for travel.

The packaging seems a bit cheap for the price of the styler. The box is fine but the plastic insert the styler sits in is not very nice. Underneath the plastic insert is the instruction manual and a silicon sleeve, but it does not come with a bag or case.

My initial impression of the product is that it's slightly longer and larger than your standard straightener or tongs. Its relatively light, but feels a little cheap and plasticky. The power button is concealed in the styler arms, which I like, so that you don't accidentally bump it and turn it off. There's a digital display for the temperature, with the temperature control being operated via a simple twist at the bottom of the styler. I like that if you set the temperature and leave it for 5 seconds, it locks it. It will also remember it from your last use.

My first test was straightening with the styler. I was curious about this, because you look at the twisted plates and you definitely feel skeptical about it's ability to straighten your hair. But it works! I went for 190°c, and it took me the same amount of time as it would with GHDs. My hair was decently straight, and it stayed that way throughout the day. It seemed a bit fluffier than normal, usually I would get quite a sleek finish from my regular straighteners.

The next day I put the curlers to the test. I made sure prior to starting to section my hair up and comb it really well to ensure the smoothest glide. Again, I went for 190°c. It was pretty hit and miss. I think the worst thing about this styler is the unnecessary comb like plastic teeth that run down the lengths of both sides of the plates. I guess the intention is for it to guide and comb your hair as it comes through the styler but honestly it just seems to catch, tear and break, no matter how many times I brushed my hair prior to curling a section. The bits that I got through successfully produced a nice, bouncy, natural looking curl. The bits that I didn't get through so nicely resulted in a kinked and frizzy mess that I just kept re-attempting until I just felt like I was doing harm to my hair. I ended up fixing the ratty looking bits with my regular tongs.

The best thing about this is the cool tip. I thought it was a great addition to the styler as it added more stability to the downward glide.

Tips: Do small sections at a time. Comb each section before putting it through the styler to reduce catching on the teeth. The slower you move downwards, the tighter the curl.

Curls or Curses?

I was really looking forward to reviewing this Remington Curl & Straight product hoping to achieve better results than my previous hair curling tongs. I love to travel and these would be so handy as they are a cross between a curler & straightener. They have worldwide main power voltage so can plug in anywhere just needing a plug adaptor.

When opening the box I saw rose gold and dark grey tongs with very unusual twisted plates. They were easy to hold and have a twist clicker at the end. You twist to the left to decrease the temp and twist to the right to increase.

After carefully reading the instructions and watching the video, I thought this is going to be easy. I was wrong. Once a small amount of hair was curled into the tongs it was very difficult to pull the tongs through my hair. I found it very painful and had to remove the tongs without curling. Over a few days', I tried these tongs after washing and drying my hair, leaving my hair for a few days', but still found them hard to use. I used the temp from 170-210 and it was very fast to heat to the right temp.

My husband - an engineer had a look and tried them out on me, but he too was unable to glide the tongs through my hair without almost pulling my head off. Even with little or no finger pressure on the 'cool tip' of the tongs the resistance for pulling through the hair was so high that we had to stop. It didn't seem to make any difference if it was a small or large amount of hair the tongs just would not glide through.

I will keep persisting with these for a while, but at this point I am not too impressed with this product.

Tips: Cool Tips on the tongs are easy to hold and big enough not to burn fingers.
