Australis Banana Powder Review

I have the rosiest cheeks. Always have! This powder works with or without full makeup to reduce this. And it’s a reasonable price. It is long lasting and helps to highlight areas that need some brightening up. I don’t wear full makeup every day but this is snow a must have to hide my baby red cheeks!

I was lucky enough to be gifted this by a friend. It comes in decent packaging and I find that it's finely milled enough that it works very well as a setting powder. I don't use it on my whole face, but I find it works well on my T-zone and under eyes to set concealer.

I have quite tanned/olive-toned skin and I find the tone works very well for me. It doesn't leave me looking cakey which I find a lot of powders tend to do.

I haven't used it for contouring as I'm not a big fan of that so can't attest to how that would work.

Overall, I think this is a great powder and would highly recommend it.

I personally only use this to set around my eyes and on bridge of the nose, it's a fine powder which is great, but have issues when I have not used eye cream / prepped under eye area well I get obviously fine lines and looks quite cakey. If the area is prepped it's great for setting and gives a nice lighter colour to brighten the area.

This was one of those products some one gave me as a gift that I just wasn't that sure about but was nonetheless intrigued.

The powder is supposed to act like a brightener under the eyes. I actually don't need a lot of brightening under my eyes and I find this powder overall just sinks in and my eyes and skin look the same. If I apply too much it can start to look a bit yellow but not too bad.

As a contour, it was very subtle unless you built it up, and while it did work, I preferred shades in my contour kits.

Overall I use it more for setting make up as I found it did a good job of that.

The packaging is fairly ordinary and I wouldn't get another one - but it was interesting to try.

Farmers had a buy 2 get 1 free deal going on with Australis products, so I bought the banana powder as part of the deal. This was the first time I’ve used banana powder and I’ve always wanted to try it, so I was happy I found one on budget. I’ve now committed to transitioning all my beauty products to cruelty free, so Australis was the perfect brand to go for.

The banana powder is very light, and I have to be very careful when opening it, so it doesn’t end up going everywhere and opening it on a carpet area is probably not ideal. That’s the one thing I didn’t like about the loose powder, but that’s what I kept seeing in the makeup tutorials, so I went for it instead of the compact powder form. I just use it with a powder brush as my final stages of setting my makeup and I don’t only use it for contouring. Since I have a more yellow base skin tone, I like using the banana powder as an alternative to the white setting powder, because the yellow tone seems to give my skin an even and smooth finish. I loved how well it set under my eyes without giving creases as well as how well dark scaring or pigmentation were hidden. I also have oily skin and I have now started using serums, so the banana powder gave a matte finish, which is what I always prefer my skin to look.

I love the final look of my makeup and how well it sets into my skin. I will continue to use it.

I bought this hoping to cover the beginning signs of my tired looking eyes. Everyone said “try banana powder” so of course at $17 this was a no brainer. I have tried it in many different situations, full makeup, no makeup, over concealer, no concealer and although it really did take away the redness from my cheeks and chin it was far too yellow for my undereyes. It did’nt brighten them and dried them out making my fine lines more obvious. Dont get me wrong this product lasted all day and kept the redness away but as I have pale skin I felt it didnt suit my skin tone. Would I use it again, probably not and not because its not a great product but because it didnt suit my skin tone. I really think this would work better on a younger person that doesnt have to worry about fine lines or wrinkles.

As a person who has tan/olive skintone, the colour of this powder is great for me! I use it to lightly set my undereyes and T- Zone to brighten them and it really does the trick! It blends easily into the skin with a light dusting.

I use this banana powder a few times a week when I feel the need to add some extra brightness to my skin, especially under my eyes. Unlike some banana/highlight powders that I have used I do not find this one to leave a dry looking residue and that it can be easily blended into the skin (I use a big bristle brush) after baking. It is packaged in a handy little compact and a little goes a long way with this so it really is worth the buy. This banana powder is something that I would definitely recommend to people or probably even by as a gift since it is great for all skin tones as well as it being a handy little gem to have in your makeup bag!

Banana powder is such a cool concept, I really wanted this powder to work! My skin is quite prone to redness as well so I was keen to try something to even out my tone. Unfortunately there were a couple of issues with this powder:

1. The colour was way too dark/yellow/generally wrong for my skin tone. I'm very fair, and this powder just sat very heavily on my skin.

2. As the day went on this powder started looking more and more yellow, whilst making my skin look more and more red! How is that even possible? I don't know, but this powder managed it. It wasn't pretty. I removed my makeup earlier than usual because I couldn't stand the look and feel of it on my skin anymore.

Great that this product works so well for other gals, but definitely is not the powder for me.

One of my favourite under eye setting powder. I love how brightening this powder is and how easy it is to blend. It helps to keep my concealer in place and it doesn't crease and the longevity of this powder lasts all day. The only thing is that it can look cakey if you apply to much, but you can give yourself abit of a spritz with your setting spray and it takes away that powdery look.
