I received a 30ml GWP size tube of this with another purchase. Generally I love Shiseido 'The Makeup' line of products and find them very high quality. I am also surprised at the amount of oily skinned girls rating this so highly on here that I wonder if they are perhaps meant to be reviewing the moisture mist version? Mine is from the more expensive 'the makeup' line in the black packaging. I use the loose powder from this range and love it and thought I would love this too. The tube is beautiful, a work of art shaped sort of like a tube morphing into a beautiful curved rock or perhaps a piece of bamboo, I am not sure but it reflects the design of the rest of the range - black/purple with a brown pearlescene very beautiful. The texture is quite thick and concentrated (you need a tiny bit) and is easily to blend despite this. No noticeable fragrance detected by my nose. This quickly sinks into pores and fine lines and really does give a smooth dewy base for foundation to come. Once I have applied foundation and powder over the top my skin looks flawless but sadly this is where the greatness ends. I have quite dry skin - normal/dry I would say and this makes me really greasy within an hour or so and I find this product makes my face way too dewy even when worn under an oil free foundation. It is also not great if you are a glasses wearer as I find where my glasses sit on the bridge of my nose the makeup starts sliding around really quickly leaving marks. I also require frequent powdering. I cannot imagine this would be good for oiler skintypes however it might be good for maturing skin types in need of a moisture boost. Sadly this primer is not for me and was a bit of a let-down really which is a shame.

Tips: I would avoid if you have oily skin!
This is just my own experience just because it hasn't worked well on me (dry skin, blemishes) it has worked well on others. The Shiseido Pre Makeup Cream was the first ever primer I had purchased but would think twice about buying it again. I became conflicted after I saw rave reviews on this product being labeled as the “best primer”. The primer has a thick texture with a pinkish tint (also has a slight fragrance) which blended into the skin smoothly like the everyday face moisturiser. After I apply it all over my face a wait a minute or two then proceed in applying a foundation/BB cream, when I application felt somewhat the same as if I didn’t use the primer when I did. I’ve been using this product every time I wear makeup as I didn’t want it to go to waste and it didn't break my skin out even further. On a humid summers day at school or outside touch-ups would be needed as I noticed my foundation doesn’t last as long. Any suggestions for a good primer?
I love this primer! I have from time to time suffered from a shiny, oily forehead and chin and this is amazing at mattifying it. It gives a perfect silky pre makeup base, and makes foundation go on easily and evenly. I have found though if on occasion I've been a bit heavy handed it has made my skin really white, which if using a sheer foundation has made my foundation appear slightly more pale? But seriously, even with my heavy hand this primer is a 10/10 for me.
Tips: Go buy it!!! You won't regret it. xx
After reading the reviews below I'm a bit stumped as to my experience with this product. I have only used it twice so far but both were on very cold days, so will be interesting to see how it holds up on a humid day. I have previously used a Murad serum as a base for my makeup which was excellent at keeping my makeup looking fresher for longer, but I saw this on flybuys so snapped it up. It went on lovely, was thick in texture which I expected and had a light foundation colour which I also liked - almost felt like I was applying a thick tinted moisturizer. When I applied my makeup it didn't feel as silky as I thought it would have - sure it went on very smooth but I wasn't amazed. Do I need to wait a bit longer for the primer to settle? Maybe I didn't wait long enough. I wouldn't say my foundation lasted longer than it normally would. I was expecting my foundation to look stunning by the end of the evening, but I found myself wanting to re-apply my powder. I don't think I would buy this product in future, my assessment is possibly unfair because my only comparison to date is an expensive serum. I will keep using it til the end of the tube because it certainly had no negative effects, and definitely will test it in hot weather to see how it holds up there.
Tips: Try before you buy. If I had purchased this product I would have been disappointed, given the price. Also it is important to know exactly what you want out of a primer, to smooth lines, or keep foundation lasting longer, there appear to be many options available!
I love this stuff! I got mine free with my other shiseido face care products, and it definitely got me hooked. Like one of the other BR's below, I have dry skin with a very oily t-zone.. This cream is amazing, my foundation lasts all day long! I will definitely be repurchasing even if it is a bit on the pricey side
I am a HUGE Shiseido fan and of their priming products! I was lucky enough to win a gorgeous gift pack from Shiseido with this primer inside. I find its quite a thick texture and almost leaves a bit of a color base on your skin.. But as soon as you apply your make up over it you are sold on it! I use this in conjunction with their pore primer, which I use on my nose and chin... This I use on the rest of my face and the results are fantastic. My make up never shifts, it lasts until I take it off and my skin always feels nice and soft! I love the tubes the primers come in too, they are perfect for squeezing out the right amount!
Tips: This is fab used in conjunction with their pore primer too. With these two products together you will literally create the perfect base!
I received a sample of this primer in the samplebox closing sales. Wow I was blown away with what a difference it made that I now own the full sized product.
I've always suffered with a shiny forehead, even with matte foundation and powder it always seems to be shiny, and its not like I have oily skin, in fact I have quite dry skin with the T-Zone problem. Then I got this sample and gave it a whirl, instantly my shiny spot was gone! it smoothed out my complexion, covered any pimple or blemish and generally left my skin feeling fresh, soft and ready for make up application.
It is a bit pricey for a primer I admit but it is so worth it, and I found that a little goes a long way so should last me a few months, especially as I have a cheaper primer that I use for work days and then this yummy Shiseido one for special occasions and weekends. Design wise its a tad boring, being all black with almost brown writing on it, making it a bit hard to read to be honest, but its functional, the tube is easy to use, the lid fits great and it doesn't dispense too much at a time.
Having little to no fragrance as well makes it wonderful as it doesn't interfere with any other perfume item you will be wearing. Also I found that using this pre-makeup cream that my foundation or BB cream would stay in place a lot longer than normal, one weekend I was naughty and being a bit on the drunk side left my makeup on when I fell asleep, waking the next morning to see my foundation still in place, which was a little surprising.
All in all its well worth the price tag and is a number one primer for me.
As someone who loves Shieseidos skincare, I was curious to try their makeup (this was the first Shiseido makeup item I had tried).
This comes in a sleek black tube that has a simple design. It isn't eye catching but it functions well with a screw top lid and the tube itself is a squeeze tube. It's super easy to disperse product.
The consistency of this is like a moisturiser. Upon application it blends in very easily and it makes your skin feel hydrated. Unfortunately, as this dries, it seems to mattify slightly which is uncomfortable on my dry skin. I think if your skin is oily then perhaps you will like this better.
I didnt really notice if this prolonged the wear of my makeup, as every time I have used this (with either foundation or BB Cream), my skin has appeared dehydrated. Even though I always use a moisturiser before applying makeup, this dried my skin out slightly and made it look slightly flaky and unattractive.
Because of my experience with this on dry skin I find it difficult to tell whether this is a product that works or not. I can say that it doesn't work for my skin type but that it may work for others.
I won't be purchasing this again.
