I have a love-hate relationship with aerosol spray deodorants. I love that they’re easy to apply and dry instantly, but I hate that they often sting (if I’ve just shaved) and that they don’t tend to give lasting protection. This came with some pretty high claims, so I was excited to see if it lived up to them!
First off: packaging. I really like the shape of this – like most of the Rexona aerosols it’s a really comfy shape to hold, and it’s super sturdy. The pushy-down-thing at the top (I’m so good at descriptive words!) has a purple rubbery grip, and it works really easily. Like with the roll-on, I’m not super keen on the colour-scheme, but this appeals to me slightly more just because it has more white and purple. It’s really not important; it’s just a matter of personal taste.
The spray is very fine and misty, but it does come out quite powerfully, so be sure to hold it far enough away! It dries literally within seconds, which I love, as I hate waiting around to get dressed in the mornings (let’s face it, I’m always running late anyway).
Like the roll-on, this has an extremely fresh, slightly florally scent. I do find it a bit strong, especially first off, as I like to wear perfume and I find this clashes a bit noticeably in the beginning. It does mostly fade away after an hour or so.
Unfortunately for me, as the scent fades away, so does the protection. I don’t find this very effective for long periods of time, particularly if I’m outside or doing anything active. Unlike with the roll-on, I’ve found I can get a bit stinky (grooossss) after several hours. It is easy to reapply, so I could carry it around with me to use as needed, but it’s not good for long periods of time. In addition, I don’t think it’s a great antiperspirant – I’ve been able to test that out, especially in this hot weather, and I don’t find it does as good a job as its roll-on alternative.
On the plus side: it doesn’t sting at all, which is a major bonus, and I haven’t found it to leave any white marks on my clothing. So it definitely lives up to those claims, which is great!
Overall, I think this is a decent aerosol deodorant. I do prefer something with a bit more lasting power for day-to-day wear, as well as a slightly more subtle scent, but for quick, on the go protection, this does the job well.
I really wanted to like this product. Spray deodorants seem so fancy and superior to the humble roll-on. Yes, it worked and I will grant it that, however it has one unforgivable flaw – the overpowering fumes.
My word! I’ve used spray deodorant before in the past and had a similar issue with it, but not to this scale. The product comes out like a hose with a finger on the end of it – powerful and EVERYWHERE. My bathroom is very small and I apply after my shower so it was steamy which no doubt exacerbated the problem, but I genuinely could not breathe after using this. I definitely could never use this with my toddler or baby in the room.
I feel mean now. It really is a good product if you apply your deodorant in an open space or have lungs of steal. I adore the packaging. Aside from the silly pictures of t-shirts on the front which clutter up the label IMHO, the bottle is sleek, black, modern and feminine. It makes me think of a gorgeous stylish woman who tosses this in her gym bag. In fact, that is just where mine is going so I can use it away from the box that is my bathroom.
The smell is a clean, athletic scent. It’s quite nice but a tad masculine. Probably why this makes me think of a woman that works out. It evokes power, there is nothing dainty about this. It’s not at all offensive but I’m not sure how well it would blend if you were to use a perfume, especially a less ballsy perfume after.
Now for results. This is why I have scored this product highly despite the asphyxiating properties. I REALLY put this through it’s paces. It’s been near on or over 30 degrees here during my trial aaaand I’ve been doing the 30 day shred aaaaand I’m super unfit. Ladies don’t sweat they say but ooooooh did I sweat. Except under my armpits which remained bone dry. Impressive.
They also speak the truth when they say you can use after shaving. In the name of BR I shaved and gritted my teeth, preparing for the worst. Zero sting. Very impressive.
Overall although I personally would not buy again I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone else, especially if you’re athletic.
Tips: Use in a well ventilated area
