Schick Hydro Silk Razor Review

I tried out this razor last night and I am very impressed. It left my legs feeling silky smooth after shaving and did not cut me once like other razors that I have used in the past. I brought a Schick razor similar to this a year or so ago and it worked really well so I had a feeling that this would be a good one. I will definately consider purchasing this product in the near future.

I received my new razor to trial, I was impressed with the cover that makes keeping it in the shower easy, especially with the moisturising serum as when I have left other razors wet for to long the soap/serum has worn out way before its time. With sensitive skin underarms I found this great, gentle and did a great job, and my legs loved the moisturising as I shaved. A great shaver. Love it!!!

Legs: This was my first experience using a 5 blade razor and it pretty much blew my socks off. Previously, I have only used single or double disposable blades. Oh. My. Goodness. 5 blades are so much faster! Imagine all the time I could have saved over the years, if only I had known! I found that the razor was very clever in protecting my legs from cuts, which I put down to the fact that the head is quite big and therefore harder to apply the wrong angle and cut yourself (although in actual fact, it's probably due to the skin guards on each of the blades). The head of the razor also tilts as it runs over your curves, which is pretty nifty. My legs felt perfectly smooth afterwards, which I think was due to both the moisturising serum and the skin guards - and because the razor gave a close cut. I used the razor with a foam shaving gel which, along with the moisturising serum, also helped to smooth the path that the razor took over my legs, although I found that the strips mixed with the water on my legs made it clog up and need rinsing a lot more frequently, which slowed the process down a lot. I imagine this will disappear with more use though. Under-arms: The razor worked fine on my underarms, but because of the moisturising serum clogging up the blades and the fact that the razor head is quite large, it ended up taking about 30secs to shave one armpit whereas my double-bladed disposable razor only takes about 5secs. Can't have it all, I guess!

Bikini line: Do not, I repeat, do NOT use this razor on your bikini line! Even with moisturising and exfoliation, within half a day I had burning, sore lumps where each hair had been cut off and was trying to escape back out through my skin. Obviously this was because of the close shave that the razor gave, leaving no hair untouched by its 5 blades. But it resulted in very painful regrowth, which I do not recommend trying.

This razor is such smooth operator, it's got all the moves and made me want to take advantage of it again and again. When I received it I looked it over and thought how handsome it was but was it all looks and no action? Well I put it to the test, it has a wonderfully comfortable grip, allowing you to hold on to it easily and gently, I ran it under water first to get it all wet and ready and stated the upward strokes on my legs, well!!! it glides like silk, even over those bumpy bony areas like knees and ankles and gives a true close shave, so close that I couldn't stop running my hands up and down my own legs, and I used it again and again, every 2nd day since I got it just so I could relive that sensation of 'just shaved' legs. The lubrication is just the right amount and isn't caked on so high it stops the blades getting close enough, and it lasts too, I'm onto my 4th shave with my Schick Hydro Silk Razor and the silky lubrication has not waned at all. I can't recall having a closer shave ever and I am a bit of a razor tart, always seeking 'the one', well I have found it, this is my favourite and one that will stay in my shower to be used and adored whenever I feel the urge to take advantage of all it offers, bliss, trust me.

I'm a bit naughty and don't use a shaving cream with my razor. The Hydro still glides over wet skin effortlessly and no nasty little nicks like I used to get using cheapo razors :o )

Overall I think this is a really good razor, around the same price as my usual razor and blades. I would possibly buy it again if it was on special. :)

Pros: The 5 blades work great, and leave you with smooth legs and armpits. The moisturising serum makes it possible to shave without using shaving lotion. It has a little travel head, so that you can carry it with you without your things getting damaged.

Cons: The serum can get sticky ad clog the blades. It doesn't have a shower holder, which means you have to find space to put it in your shower.

I ended up receiving this razor for free when it was first released due to a competition that was on Facebook where they were going them out every day. For me I have always purchased the Venus range which I was drawn to because of it being pink and girly. When I received this I really like the color of this razor as it just reminded me of water. I liked that the razor had five blades which was great for a nice clean shave to either your legs or underarms. I found that it was super moisturizing for my legs but the only downside is the gel they use for the formula does run out quite quickly. I wouldn't repurchase this due to finding an shaved that I prefer.

I liked this razor, it gave me a nice clean smooth shave, while not being worried about getting any little nicks over my knees or not so easy to shave areas. It was light to hold with a great shaped handle. Did the job without getting shaving rash i find i do often with sensitive skin. I liked the ease of this disposable razor to use and will but more blades to keep using it.

This is what i buy and use regularly. The blades last well and give a close smoth cut without feeling like i'm going to slice my knee or ankle. Generally i have no issues with shaving rash and think its a great razor to have in the shower waiting for when needed.

....I have NEVER cut myself shaving before. But, with Hydro Silk? different story. It was a nightmare! I had cuts galore.

On the positive side however, what wasn't cut skin that later turned into unsightly sores, was very soft and smooth.

...still looking for that perfect razor...if it exists!
