The Sigma spa express brush cleaning glove arrived on my doorstep in all of its pretty pink glory. It came with full instructions as well as a glossy information sheet on Sigmaās full range. The Sigma products scream high quality, and the spa express brush cleaning glove is no exception. The āgloveā itself is hot pink with a pocket to slip your hand into, and a strap to keep it in place. It is made of a rubbery, flexible and water resistant material. This product is an investment ā I cannot see how it could ever be broken, damaged or in need of replacement, even after years of use.
The glove is covered in bumps and groves that assist the makeup to be washed off the brushes. The glove is slipped on, the brush is wet, your soap of choice is applied to either the glove or brush, and the brush is rubbed over the glove. It really is a more effective process than washing without any equipment. I personally donāt use the strap, as I like to be able to slip the glove off to rinse the brush and squeeze out the water. Antibacterial soap, shampoo or brush cleaner could be used with this product. The end result is squeaky clean brushes, with no makeup, residue or bacteria in sight. I have used this to wash everything from a delicate lip brush, to a dense, fluffy powder brush, and the results were brilliant every time.
In comparison to washing with equipment the Sigma Spa Express Brush Cleaning Glove is faster and more effective. Brush cleaning time is cut in half, and brushes are more deeply cleaned. This is particularly valuable to a makeup artist, or someone with a fair amount of brushes who really doesnāt like washing them.
In comparison to the Bossy Cosmetics Brush Cleaning Pad the Sigma brush cleaning glove is more expensive, and more effective. It is larger and easier to hold, making the brush cleaning process more manageable. It has more groves and feels sturdier.
The accessibility of this product is what would hold me back from recommending it. If you are already placing a Sigma order, absolutely, add it to your order. Some Sigma products are available on makeup.co.nz however the brush cleaning glove is currently not loaded on the site.
The final verdict: the Sigma brush cleaning glove is a great product. It does exactly what it says, is high quality and makes the brush cleaning process faster and easier. After using the Sigma brush cleaning glove and the Bossy Cosmetics brush cleaning pad, I would purchase the Sigma brush cleaning mat. I know ā itās a bit of a leap, but I love the idea of having the high quality, functional aspects of the Sigma brush cleaning glove, whilst being able to use both hands to pump soap, squeeze out water etc. I wonāt actually be purchasing the mat, because I already have a great product in my hands, but that is my recommendation to others. I am absolutely convinced of the high quality and attention to detail within the Sigma brand, so I will be looking into their other products.
I was lucky enough to be sent this by BR to trial. I made sure to amass quite a collection of grubby brushes prior to receiving this glove so I could really test it to the limits! I was quite surprised initially by the size of the brush cleaning glove, when I read travel sized I imagined something quite dainty- this is the size of a large man's hand. This is good though as it would encompass a wide range of hand sizes from my baby hands to someone with lovely long fingers. For travel this can be compressed by tucking the portion that covers your palm/wrist area into the pocket that covers your fingers, effectively cutting the size of the glove in half and thereby taking up less space in your makeup bag.
I love how this glove is reversible enabling you to use a cleaning texture appropriate to the size and bristle style of your brush. I cleaned all of my face brushes first on the face side, turned the glove inside out and cleaned my eye brushes. There are different textures on the glove; wash, rinse, refine and refine plus. I found these textures did a fantastic job at really getting in between the bristles and cleaning out the gunk-particularly on very dense brushes such as my foundation buffing brush. This is a perfect option if you really want to look after your brushes and are having problems with giving them a really deep clean. If you are someone who applies your foundation with a brush this is also a great option for you and makes the whole arduous process of cleaning your brushes just that little bit easier. If you don't tend to use a lot of brushes for your makeup (i.e. just the odd eye brush) then something easier on the budget would probably be a fine option for you. As for me I am gifting my previous brush cleaning pad to my sister and will be sticking to this one. Thanks BR!
Tips: There are two sides to this glove (it is reversible). One side is for large brushes and the other for small. Place the strap around the thumb and wrist for a secure fit. Wet your brushes and the 'wash' portion of the glove. Add your brush shampoo of choice (I used Bossy) and swirl brush over texture to clean. Rinse the glove and run your brush back and forth over the area marked as 'rinse'. For an extra clean swirl your brush around the portion of the brush marked as 'refine'. Return to the rinse texture of the glove and set brush aside to dry on a towel. There is a 'refine plus' texture also if your brushes are extra grubby and in need of a bit more of a clean.
