You really do have to be oily for the best effect. A staff member mentioned that the residue usually happens if you use on drier skin - I've found I have way less residue if I use occasionally for really bad days. It works great like this and leaves me feeling clean and fresh.

Lush Dark Angels Review
Lush Dark Angels Deep, dark, cleanser for young, dark and oily skin. A black, squidgy scrub with charcoal to absorb oils and exfoliate your skin. Nutritious avocado oil softens, glycerine keeps the moisture in and black sugar softly scrubs; rhassoul mud is anti-microbial and cleanses deeply, while sandalwood and rosewood essential oils are soothing, giving you a feeling of smooth, clean freshness that is difficult to beat. Just remember to wash it off properly and clean the wash basin after you.

Tips: Not a daily cleanser for most skin types
This charcoal face scrub for sure helps stubborn and pimple prone skin. I personally found it a little too abrasive as I brought it intended as a daily face scrub and used it that way for a while, but decided it was more of a once a week exfoliator. The black charcoal can be very stubborn to rinse off, so I would used a moisturiser after and it seemed to help get the colour off my face after use. I also found it quite drying so would definitely need to pair this with a good facial moisturiser. I love all of the lush cleansers because they all last a very long time, so they are very good value for money.
Tips: To ensure you get good value for money, use as directed (small pinch). Its all you need most of the time :)
After borrowing this from my friend and seeing how it made my skin look so fresh, bright and clean I knew I wanted to get some for myself! Instead of using this as a daily cleanser I use it once a week as an exfoliater and much prefer to use it this way! It honestly gives your skin a lovely glow and fresh look and I’m sure helped to calm down some of my pimples. It can stain your skin which has happened to me once, but since then I tried to take my time with rinsing it off making sure it really wasn’t there and I think the trick is to not rush the rinse off. I would definitely reccomend this to most skin types as a once a week exfoliater rather than daily cleanse as that’s how I’m using it and seeing great results!
Tips: It gets messy and take your time with it!
If you suffer from oily skin, Dark Angels is a must have and it won't leave you feeling like a dried up prune afterwards. It's exfoliating and deep cleansing, and will leave your face feeling super soft afterwards, as do most LUSH cleansers!
Tips: Take the pot in the shower with you as it can make a bit of a mess and will save you from cleaning your bathroom sink every time you use it.
I purchased this when I went into Lush and my normal cleanser was out of stock. This cleanser is pretty intense! The colour for starters can stain bathroom sinks if not washed down properly (make sure the skin is cleared after use). I found that this worked best when used occasionally, one a week, when I felt like I need a deep cleanse. I definitely would not recommend using this for a daily cleanser!
Tips: Use occasionally.
Wow, this stuff is extreme! It's so black, I was really surprised when I opened the container. I found it a bit too strong for me in terms of the exfoliation. I also really didn't like the black; it was just messy! I found the smell a bit off putting as well, it's a strange smell that is quite strong. Overall, I wouldn't buy it and I wouldn't recommend it.
I have pretty fair skin and I used it for about a month. At first it helped my acne and redness quite a bit. It takes a long time to cleanse and it gets mess everywhere. After a while I noticed that my skin was breaking out with lots of tiny blackheads which I’ve never really noticed as a problem. Where the cleanser was good for some of my acne it was horrible for blackheads and made them appear. Since it took so long I also couldn’t wash my face in the morning. I had only used a quarter of the tub and I had to throw it out
This scrub is lush indeed. The black sugar is exfoliating but not too abrasive or scratchey. The mix of the rhassoul mud, charcoal, avocado oil and other essential oils makes a texture like no other scrub and is surprisingly soft and smells incredible. When I went on holiday without it I noticed my skin was back to being oily again after not using it. It leaves my skin so soft and moisturized and pampered. As you don't require much it is super cost effective. A little goes a long way. It's definitely a favorite of mine and beats all the other drug store cleansers loaded with chemicals and environmentally unfriendly microbeads etc in them.
Tips: Hide it from your husband cos he'll also become addicted to it and will use way too much cos husband's don't follow instructions well
I've been using this cleanser for the last two years, and I couldn't love it anymore than I already do. In the beginning I was definitely trial and error, but boy did my skin clear up. After the first week my oily, red and acne-riddled skin was bright, clear and my redness was almost completely gone. Although its definitely exfoliating it is also soft, so it doesn't irritate the skin at all. It's a simple, beautiful product which lasts forever (I've used 3 pots over two years with a daily night time wash, as I use Aqua Marina in the mornings). Dark Angels also smells gorgeous!
Tips: My only tip would to be don't use it in the shower, or with hot water. I'm no expert, but every time I've ever showered and used Dark Angels it's left a black residue. Never happened with cold water though
Don’t get me wrong, I love this stuff, but calling it a cleanser is crazy to me!
I use this once or twice a week as an exfoliating in the shower. I rub it on and leave it for several minutes then lightly rub in circular motions and rinse off, then use come cleanser to ensure the residue is removed.
It leave my fave feeling smooth and exfoliated. I urge you not to use this as your daily cleanser though. I have oily skin and it does help. But it’s far too abrasive for every day.
Tips: Follow up with a heavy duty moisturiser for super supple skin.
