I had never tried a peel off charcoal mask prior to using this one. I had definitely seen them online before, but they looked quite painful to remove and I wasn't super keen pay money to be in pain!
I have combination skin. I have an oily t-zone (forehead, nose, chin), while the skin on my cheeks is normal. When I tried this product, I preferred to only use it on my t-zone area as this is where I'm mostly likely to have blocked pores or blackheads.
The product comes in a 50ml plastic tube. The actual product itself is a black liquid with a thick consistency. It has a fresh minty smell. Before applying the product to your face, you need to wash your face thoroughly and dry it. Otherwise the product won't adhere to your face properly and it won't work as well as possible. I preferred to use this product after getting out of the shower as it ensures your face is clean and your pores are open.
When applying the product, you need to get the right balance between applying a layer that is thin enough to dry quickly, but not too thin as it will tear too easily when you remove the mask and it won't get anything out of your pores. The instructions say to remove the mask once it has dried which the bottle recommends to be around 20-30 minutes. However I found that removing it after 30 minutes was never enough time for the mask to dry fully. I would leave it on for at least an hour and then remove it, otherwise it won't feel like it's getting anything out of your pores.
After having the mask on for around 5 minutes your face will feel very cool and fresh, which I think would feel especially nice in summer. When the mask is ready to remove, I scrunch my face up a bit because this detaches some of the mask from my skin and make it easier to peel off. Generally the mask would come off in one piece, with only a little bit left on my face which I would then wipe off with a warm flannel or face wipe. I didn't find the removal to be painful, it felt similar to removing a plaster. However I probably won't use this product if you have sensitive skin, as it may irritate your skin.
Overall the mask does an okay job at removing dirt and sebum from pores. However I don't think it minimised my pores or reduced excess oil. I will continue to use this product, but mostly because it's a fun novelty product that feels nice to apply and remove.
My problem area is mainly around my nose – I feel like at its worst, it resembles the Black dots on a strawberry. The fact that this comes in a tube is great – this means a no mess application. The texture of the product is thick and gooey. The scent is quite overpowering and reminds me of a lynx shower gel. This mask has done a very good job making the pores appear smaller on my nose. After using for approximately 2 weeks, I have found that my skin is clearer, brighter and smoother. The instructions on the tube indicate it should be used on the t-zone but I feel like this Is gentle enough to be used on any part of your face. I found it is deffintely trial and error as to how much product you need. I found the first time I used, i didn’t apply enough and found it really hard to peel off. Having used it a few times now, I find that it's important to put a good amount to make sure the layer is thick enough to peel off. All in all, a great product that I will continue to use
Tips: The scent on this is quite strong and may not suit all skintypes
