La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Anti-Shine Dry Touch Facial Sunscreen SPF50+

Given that I have oily skin against a brown skin tone, it's difficult to find a sunscreen that doesn't leave me with a white cast and a greasy face after a few hours.

This sunscreen ticks all the boxes for me. It's a good size to travel with and has a functional pump that dispenses just enough product. The formula is a lightweight fluid-like cream but don't be fooled, it dries super fast while blending...so blend fast. That's my only gripe, sometimes it feels like I'm tugging at my skin just to try and move the product.

On my brown skin tone it does appear as a white cast when trying to blend it in but it does go away. I find that I need to apply the sunscreen in natural light so I can remove any hint of the white cast.

I love that it's unscented because I can't stand that people pick up that I've just applied sunscreen from the scent. The best part for me is that my skin still looks like skin and doesn't look matte. After 8 hours there's signs of dewiness but nothing compared to the usual grease ball with past sunscreens.

I really wanted to like this sunscreen as my usual one is a lot more expensive and I was hoping to find something a little kinder on the wallet. At face value, the sunscreen does everything it says it does (I'm not 100% sure on the SPF rating of course but if it is sold in NZ then it should be fully tested). It has a light cream-like consistency with no scent. The packaging is nice - it has a pump at the top of the tube which makes for easy dispensing and the tube itself is perfect size to keep in your bag for reapplication. I found the cream to be still quite thick and when I spread it on my face it felt quite drying and it was difficult to make sure it was rubbed in evenly. For those with oily skin, this may well be an advantage but I like a little glow when I apply my sunscreen under make up. Because I always apply my sunscreen before make up, I often rely on it to act as a primer as well. My make up did not want to sit nicely on top of this product and it took me awhile to get my foundation look acceptable. There was a small amount of pilling which I had to try and even out. Once my make up had settled, my face did sit nice for the rest of the day and I didn't notice any additional shine or grease associated with the product. This facial sunscreen would be perfect worn alone and for those looking to remove shine. I have donated the rest of my tube to my husband as I think his skin (and requirements of a sunscreen) is better suited to it.

Gosh I struggle with sunscreen. I know I should wear it but it just upsets the routine. I like to wear makeup and I like my makeup to stay put, and most sunscreens leave it sliding off.

This is a really good product - the matte finish is perfect to combat sunscreen-shine and it doesnt feel greasy at all. It also doesnt smell of sunscreen either, you know that horrible chemical smell some brands have.

The only reason I haven't given this a perfect score is that it is quite expensive, I will likely buy again but for summer months only.

Oh. My. WORD. It exists. A high protection sunscreen that isn't greasy!

This comes in a box with lots of information. I sense La Roche Posay to be a very transparent company, information is presented factually, without unbelievable claims. You get the feeling they mean business!

The spf is in a tube with a pump - I like the format and find it effective. With no parabens this format will prevent exposing the product to the air.

The formulation is that of a dry gel-cream. It is light and a dry-silk texture. Hard to explain, but it doesnt feel slippery.

It goes on well and feels to be absorbed. I trust in the company that the spf is indeed 50, and will confidently use as the summer heats up.

Every single product I have tried I have loved. This brand has become my go-to, I now don't even worry about spending money to try a new La Roche Posay product - they seem to be unable to disappoint me!

I have oily skin, that just gets worse in summer so sunscreen can leave me very shiny and greasy. I have a feeling this is going to become my holy grail spf - it leaves skin soft and matte.

There's no shine and no 'slide' - makeup sits well atop of this.

My hands up, I'm an oily sister, especially in the heat. I'm also a pale pale snowflake and I burn just thinking about the sun. I received this in the morning just before I was about to go out and do yard work over labour weekend, the sun was out in full force it was the perfect time to put this to the test. When I say I put the XL antishine through it's paces I mean it! I was doing heavy labour in the sun, dripping sweat and wiping my face for 5 hours. Not a single speck of sunburn on my face, so I can vouch for the sun protection aspect of this suncreen with certianty. As for the anti shine aspect....well, have I found a holy grail? YES Oh my gosh I can't believe how amazing this product is, we are talking absolute matte finish, no shine at all, applied under makeup it works like a matte primer and keeps me shine free all day. A real problem I have with sunscreen is how greasy they are, especially on my face, they destroy my foundation but this is fantastic. Another reason I'm in love with this product is it also doesn't sting my eyes if I am sweating. So far I've hiked, gymed, yard work, everything and it's amazing. I will absolutely purchase this again and again. The price point is a little higher than my usual face sunscreen but for the benefits it's an absolute bargin.

Being a coloured person with oily skin, I have always struggled with finding sunscreen that doesn’t leave a white caste and doesn’t make my face shine brighter than a diamond.

I love that this sunscreen does not leave my face looking like Casper! It also blends in quite easily and doesn’t have that signature greasy feeling that regular sunscreen does.

This sunscreen has no fragrance so it makes application more desirable.

It has a matte formula which is excellent for my oily skin.

I find that the sunscreen sits very well under my makeup.

I love this product and will happily continue using it daily.

Excited to trial this sunscreen for sensitive skin as my skin gets really oily and extra sensitive in the summertime. Unfortunately, in Dunedin we haven’t had enough sun to really test it properly but I have used it daily since receiving it and am reviewing based on what I think of it on my skin etc. I have heard a bit about La Roche-Posay products but haven’t tried any prior. I like how the box has braille down the side. The sunscreen is a non-perfumed dry touch gel-cream, it comes in a nice sized tube with a pump applicator and so you can sit it upside down when not in use. The sunscreen claims to be 50+ SPF very high protection which is great as I have old facial burns from when I was a baby, which I have always been told by specialists to ALWAYS wear a high SPF sunscreen for all of my life. It is also anti-shine which is great as my skin gets really shiny due to oils etc (especially when I have to wear other sunscreens). If found that this sunscreen was great worn under my makeup, was not shiny at all and didn’t interfere with my foundation! The consistency is lovely, as it’s a gel-cream it’s thick but not too thick, applies really easily and doesn’t drip at all. It blends into my skin really well and absorbs quickly which is important for me. I like the product, I’m unable to say how it works in the sun as I haven’t had much here yet haha, but will take it away with me on my summer break and see how it goes!! I would purchase this product as I have tried it on my 10 year old daughter who has very sensitive skin and she can use it fine, so pretty happy with it.
