I have been using this at night in the shower but only on the nights when I'm using my non-emulsifying oil cleanser (oil cleanser isn't one of those ones that you add water to and it foams up). Although I normally use a gel cleanser to wash it off, I find when I use this it gets every last bit of oil off. There are little bits of charcoal in the lather which do a mild exfoliation but only in the little spot where the granule is rubbing on my face. The scent is an earthy one to me, which seems realistic for the ingredients. Now the cons for me are, I can't use this more often than once a day and only with an non emulsifying oil cleanser or it'll strip my skin. It also has sodium lauryl sulfate which is probably why it find it a bit drying. Not as bad as some cleansers I've used with SLS but personally I prefer if Lush left that out of the majority of their products but that's just me whining. I also prefer if products would either be a scrub with lots of little granules to give a good even all over your face or body exfoliation or have none at all. So I probably won't get this again. I think though this would be a good option if you are looking for an inexpensive wash for bacne and don't mind SLS.

Lush Coalface Review
Lush Coalface Review
Cleansing charcoal bar
Coal Face is ideal for those of you who loving washing your faces with a good, old-fashioned bar of soap. Except, there’s nothing antiquated about this preservative-free facial cleanser. Inspired by the complexion bar in ‘Annie Hall’, we created Coal Face for combination to oily faces. Powdered charcoal absorbs excess sebum and acts as a mild exfoliator, while rosewood and sandalwood oils reduce redness and clear up blemishes. Use Coal Face daily for clear, balanced skin.

Tips: I wouldn't recommend using this more than once a day and it may be a little bit drying if used more often than that.
I have been really enjoying using the Lush Coalface cleanser over the past few weeks. It comes in the form of a bar of soap, but it's designed for facial use. I find it's super easy to just keep in my shower and use each time I'm in there - you can lather this product in your hands then apply, but I personally just use it directly on my skin. Over the past several months of using this product my skin has definitely cleared up a lot, and always feels lovely and clean after use. If you're after quite a tight, clean-feeling effect from a cleanser, then I would recommend this one over other Lush cleansers. The only real con for this soap would be the black colour, something kinda unavoidable when using charcoal as a key ingredient. While charcoal is awesome for your skin it does tend to leave black marks on white surfaces, which can be wiped off no problem.
Not only does this soap have ultra gothy vibes, it also works wonders on my blackhead pronged skin. I've always suffered from blackheads but this has cleared them right up. I've been using this little black soap for over a year now and I can't see myself giving it up anytime soon. Its perfect for people who have problem with acne on their chest and back as its just like washing with a bar of soap, only better! I don't feel like it strips my skin or is too harsh, I have a normal skin type so for it to not strip the small amount of oil I have is amazing. I also love that its cruelty free! 10./10 facial cleanser!
This cleanser is great for young people or people with clear skin only looking for a minimalistic skin care routine. It is a gentle cleanser and easy to use in the shower, the coal 'beads' help to exfoliate, it really is an all in one. This product is great for oily skin and my skin always feels fresh and rejuvenated after. If you have acne prone skin or are prone to breakouts I would not recommend this product as it is a very gentle cleaner.
Tips: Pair with the vanishing cream moisturiser
I don’t often buy face soaps from Lush, but I was quite intrigued by Coalface as it’s suitable for oily skin. So I had to try it. It’s black and shimmery in colour and has a pleasant scent like all the other Lush products.
The Coalface soap lathered up nicely in my palms and it’s a mild exfoliator with small, gentle granules of coal. I applied it on a wet face with circular motions and rinsed it out with water. I found that it’s best used after makeup has been removed, otherwise I still had makeup residue left on my face. My skin felt smooth and supple with no signs of oil. The downside of the Coalface is that it stings the eyes and it was very delicate that it broke apart easily. I would recommend keeping it in a dry place after use.
With coal being a trendy beauty ingredient at the moment, the Lush Coalface soap is another one to try.
Tips: Avoid the eyes when using it, otherwise it will sting
This worked really well for my PCOS adult acne. It wasn’t harsh on my skin and cleaned it well. Would still use it if I could afford it!
Tips: Gently apply to your face and body then rinse and moisturise.
I have oily skin prone to breakouts and found that it responds well to this soap. I also love that it's eco friendly with no packaging. A small amount goes a long way.
Tips: Chop small pieces off to leave in the shower to reduce wastage.
