Fun in the shower!

I was excited to try this scrub as I've recently been shifting towards natural skincare and find it challenging to find fun body products that don't include parfum. This product clearly states it is cruelty free, natural and vegan friendly. The lovely invigorating scent comes from the green tea powder and lime oil.

The texture of this scrub was about right - not so rough that it is only suitable for my feet, not so fine that it doesn't do anything. It has enough natural oils that it stays in your hand as you scrub, rather than dry scrubs which tend to hit the shower floor before I can get them from package to body!

In terms of the packaging I'm not a big fan of the ziplock foil pouch. I find ziplock impossible to do up with body scrubs, so the product ends up open to the air until I've used it up. Also as far as I know you can't recycle foil pouches, so I feel bad for the environment throwing it away.

On the whole this is a lovely body scrub that hits all the right notes. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is the packaging choices. Hopefully Buddy Scrub can come up with something recyclable so their packaging can be as ethical as their product!

Tips: Decant the scrub into a jar that will seal so you can easily close it in the shower.

Not my fav

This scrub comes in a resealable, waterproof bag. I'm not sure if their idea is that you take the bag in the shower with you but I didn't really like the idea of scooping it out with my hands. So I made these individual little packets that I can take into the shower and use. The product itself is very gritty and has large grains of sugar/salt which gets some serious scrubbing on. It feels satisfying to use, and does leave my skin soft afterwards. However there's too much oil in the scrub. I want my scrubs to be cleansing and feel as if my skin is squeaky clean afterwards. After rinsing this off, my skin feels oily and too slippery. Which mean I have to soap again and try wash off the oily feeling. The smell is nice, but definitely not green tea. It's hard to smell while in the shower due to my shampoo and conditioner, but sitting at my desk it smells somewhat like lemonade.

Not my favourite scrub, I think I prefer those gel/cream types better as they're easier to use. Also not a fan of the oily feeling this leaves. I think I got this from a BR vault many moons ago, so at least I didn't much money on it.

Needs improvement

I like a good smell from a scrub, and the green tea scrub smells delicious - like lime / green tea. I also like it to have a good about of exfoliation from a scrub - I want to feel like it is scrubbing my skin, and this ticked that box as well. Big chunky granules that feels like it is getting rid of that dead skin and grime. That is where the good stuff ends. The first couple of times I used it, it was great. But the packaging (zip lock plastic bag) meant I probably didn't close it properly every time, and getting the scrub out with wet hands got a lot of water into the bag. After a few times the scrub went rock hard (probably due to the water that got into the bag or maybe the humidity from the shower). I thought to myself "it's still good". It wasn't still good. I tried to use it and it scratched my arm.

Tips: Straight away transfer it from the bag in comes in and put it in a better container (air tight) and use a spoon to get the scrub out.

Packaging needs improvement

I was lucky enough to pick this up in the vault. It comes in a ziplock white bag, which is actually quite gimmicky and annoying because after you open it, it doesn't close easily and water easily gets in and melts it.

The scent is that of Starbust lime - real lemonade scent, sugary and not much green tea. I do like that it is nice and gritty and is effective at scrubbing. I also find that it doesn't melt as easily as other scrubs, and is able to last long enough after contact with water to still exfoliate well. I also like that it leaves a film because it leaves me feeling moisturised and I don't need to moisturise when stepping out of the shower. Overall, I like the scrub effect, but the packaging could definitely do with improvement. I would maybe repurchase, but would definitely like to try other ones first.

Tips: After opening it, I remove from the shower and put it in a plastic bag, then take it out when I need it again just to avoid water getting in!

Bit meh for me!

I was gifted a generous helping of this scrub, and I was pretty pleased. I have tried Buddy Green Tea's older brother Charcoal, so I was interested to see how this would stack up.

As always Buddy comes in a white, resealable baggie. I don't like this. Once it's been opened it can be very hard to shut it again, and I don't have time to be mucking around trying to close a bag when I'm in the shower.

I was expecting quite a gross smell, as I'm not a fan of green tea, but it came off smelling like lemonade with a hint of the green tea, and it was quite lovely really! I liked the light green through the scrub, as well as what I'm assuming was chopped up green tea leaves. It was a nice added touch.

The scrub was as delightful to use as the charcoal one, deliciously scrubby and rough, which is what I personally look for in a scrub. Rinsing was fine but it was the feeling left on my skin that I didn't like - it felt like I had taken a block of fat and rubbed it on, and then tried and failed to wash it off. The feeling went away with a bit of shower gel, but that is not something I would expect a scrub to do.

I liked this for the smell but I don't think I'd repurchase it - it doesn't quite live up to the Charcoal one and is a bit of a let down!

Tips: Buy a set of plastic spoons and snap off the handle so it can fit in the bag - easier to use in the shower that way!

Awkward to use, didn't do much for me

I'd like to thank BR for allowing me to the opportunity to try this from the Beauty Vault. I picked up the Charcoal version of this in the last vault and was blown away, so I was keen to see how this version compared.

The scrub comes in a white resealable pouch. I found the packaging of this rather awkward to use as it was difficult to get the scrub out of the pouch in the shower, and it was a struggle to not allow water to get in and ruin the scrub. Unfortunately, towards the end of the packet too much moisture got in and this turned to sludge. I also found it annoying having to remember to bring a spoon into the shower everytime I wnated to use this so that I could scoop the product out. This would be much better packaged ina tub with a scooper or spatula. However, I did enjoy the cute marketing on the packaging such as the 'your friend with benefits' tagline and all the compliments on the packet. I found it a nice touch.

I liked that this is all natural, cruelty free, vegan friendly and Australian made as I have been trying to use more ethical products and gentler products for my sensitive skin.

Scent wise, this smells exactly how it sounds; like green tea. The scent is rather refreshing but it smells a bit odd on the skin.

The scrub was an unappealing green in colour, but as this is green tea that can't really be helped. My main issue was that unlike the charcoal version, this doesn't hold together very well when trying to get this onto a bath pouff, so this mostly ends up on the floor and not on my skin.

I found that after using this my skin was definitely significantly smoother, and the visibility of my stretchmarks was diminished and my cellulite felt smoothed. However, maybe I just have high expectations for this product due to my great experience with the charcoal version. I normally find scrubs like this great for acne and scarring and exfoliation but I felt this just didn't do a good enough job, especially for the retail price. My acne and scarring didn't really improve since using this. I found this wasn't really abrasive enough to exfoliate my skin enough. I feel that a simple home-made scrub could probably do a better job.

Overall, this just didn't really work for me so I wouldn't want to purchase this for myself but I'd definitely try some of their other scrubs.

A great scrub that could use some tweaking

I love green tea in my skincare, so when I saw this Buddy Scrub in the vault I knew I had to get my paws on it.

Packaging: Straight away I am drawn to this adorable packet, the white and different shades of green definitely appeals to me but I absolutely hate the ziplock bag. First of all, it can be quite difficult to get the bag open with wet hands. Secondly, it can be a little annoying to try and pour out some scrub from the bag. And thirdly, the zip closure doesn't close properly as sugar/salt granules get stuck in it. So as cute and eye-catching as it is, it's very impractical.

Scent: I previously tried a sample of the charcoal scrub and that smelt awful! But I am pleased to say that this smells delicious. It's definitely not green tea but it's still lovely, very zingy, tangy and citrusy. I can smell lime and lemon and get a hint of lemonade which makes for an invigorating shower.

Product: I like that this is a sugar/salt combination. It makes for a more effective exfoliant because sugar dissolves more quickly than salt so you still get the scrubby feel even as the product starts to melt down. There are some little shell pieces in it I think or maybe they are tea leaves, I'm not entirely sure but they don't seem to add to or take away from the formulation. The oils leave my skin feeling soft and slightly nourished which is nice but it's not hydrating enough to use without a lotion afterwards. Now here's my gripe. This formulation has no preservative. I know that people are on a "no preservative" kick right now but when a product is coming into contact with water it absolutely needs one. As soon as water comes into contact with the product it can start to harbour bacteria and that is a big no-no.

Overall: I love the smell and the effectiveness of the product but I will not repurchase due to the packaging and lack of preservative. If this were to be sold in a container and have a preservative added, then I would definitely buy this and continue to use as it is lovely. But it's not worth the money when it could easily start going rancid well before it's use by.

Tips: Don't take the bag in the shower with you to avoid getting water on the product. I keep mine outside the shower door and grab some when needed. I then store it in a drawer so that moisture can not get in.
