Bio oil makes a decent moisturiser, and i think that's about it. It makes a lot of claims about miracles it can perform like reducing the appearance of stretch marks, however many scientific studies show nothing topical has a significant effect on reducing stretchmarks appearance, beyond just basic moisturising. The fragrance and colouring also has the potential to be very irritating to sensitive skin. It's fairly expensive, especially considering one of the main ingredients is basic mineral oil. I have some at home, which I will continue to use, but I won't bother repurchasing
Tips: Better off sticking to baby oil which is $1 per 100ml, as opposed to bio oil which is $20 per 100ml
I used bio oil during and after pregnancy on all those areas they suggest and it did not stop me getting stretch marks, and I don't think it made one ounce of difference to help them fade either! I have heaps of stretch marks, but maybe I am just more prone to them than others? (I was HUGE too, people kept asking of I was having twins, which I wasn't, so that might have something to do with it.) What helps stretch marks fade is time, and they continued to fade at about the same rate after I stopped using bio oil. As a moisturiser though I think it did an ok job, the areas I used it on though aren't dry areas for me anyway so I don't really think I can make a fair comment on that. The left over i have works well as a massage oil though, just gotta work on getting my husband to give more back rubs!
this product really didnt meet my expectations, it didnt get rid of anything, just made me feel like i was bathing in oil it wasnt nice
Tips: dont waste your money, its all in the ads
I was using this to help get rid of pimple scarring and stretch marks. While It did help reduce the scars, it left my skin feeling very oily. I did not realise when I brought it that the consistency would literally be oily, I thought it was just part of the name (Oil being nourishment). I still use this occasionally to help clear up scarring, but even so I use just a dab.
Tips: Use a very small amount if you're worried about your skin feeling oily after.
I used this during my first pregnancy, twice a day, still got stretch marks :( I think it's mostly down to genes, you either get them or you don't, so I really feel like I wasted a lot of money on this!! It also smells weird ha, don't know if that's just me though.
Tips: If you are prone to stretch marks, this probably won't prevent them all together.
I purchased this after hearing that it can help reduce the appearance of scars. I have a lot of scars and I feel uncomfortable with them and after talking to my gp about scar removal, decided to give this a shot.
This is quite a thick, greasy oil. It left a slight greasy residue on my scarred skin but it didn't bother me all that much. I used this every day for over three months, as my doctor suggested I do. I went back to him after three months and my scars had faded a little bit but not a lot. Also the scars that had faded slightly were scars that weren't very deep, whereas the keloid scars didn't fade at all.
I continued to use this daily on my scars until the bottle (I used the 125ml bottle), ran out. Alas I didn't notice my scars fading that much - it didn't appear to do anything to the keloid scars and my doctor suggested that it was because the skin was too deeply damaged. Also on the scars that weren't so deep, bio oil did fade them but they are still visible.
I won't buy this again as it didn't do a great job for me and it's kind of pricey. I don't know what it is like for stretch marks but certainly for more severe scars this wasn't effective.
I like Bio Oil as a moisturiser & that's about all it was good for for me. I used it consistently for about 2 months & my skin liked it but it didn't reduce the appearance of my scarring or my uneven skin tone. The packaging is appropriate, I like that you can see the volume of the Oil. It has a delicate smell, nothing fragrant.
I've used it a lot but it doesn't reduce or make stretchmarks disappear. It's a fantastic all over moisturiser though. It makes your skin soft and feel really healthy.
Tips: Put on just after a bath or shower it soaks in nicer :)
Skin felt very dry and not nourished at all, didn't really like the smell and there was no visible changes to my skin tone or stretchmarks. Bottle also feels very cheaply made.
