Lush Yuzu and Cocoa Bubbleroon Review

For fluffy, citrus-chocolate bubbles

Inspired by the unusual Japanese yuzu fruit (it's kind of like a Satsuma orange), Yuzu and Cocoa has a delectable orange-chocolate fragrance with exotic tropical undertones and an uplifting grapefruit note. It makes mountains of fluffy white bubbles and the most sublimely soft bath water you’ve ever had. With an extra creamy center and fair trade shea butter, this one is the crème de la crème of chocolatey, moisturizing and soothing baths.

YUZU don't do it for me.

I brought this when they brought out the new version, this one looks like a yo-yo or melting moment biscuit where the two halves are smooshed together with a cream centre.

This orange coloured bubble bar looks like it should belong in a cafe. I love this bubble bar for the fact you can easily break it in half and get 2 baths out of it. It has a very sweet citrus scent, more sweet than citrus. It's actually a hard scent to pick I can't pick what the sweet scent actually is. In the description it says it's chocolate orange but I can't smell any chocolate unfortunately.

I hold this under the running water and watch on as the bubbles start forming in the bath... Or should I say foam? It didn't really produce masses of bubbles like I usually get from lush bubble bars. Maybe it was because I only used half the bar. Anyhow it did change the colour of the bath water to a light orange colour. The scent didn't really do a lot for me while I was in the bath or really impress me overall. It didn't leave any scent after my bath either which in this case didn't really bother me. Probably wouldn't repurchase again unfortunately

Yuzu and Cocoa Bubbleroon

Lush's Yuzu and Cocoa Bubbleroon is possibly my favourite bubbleroon. It is an interesting one though. It's scent reminds me of shea butter which is in the middle of it, and something I can't quite put my finger on which might be the yuza. I didn't really get a cocoa scent from it though.

Looking at this bubbleroon whole, another thing I noticed about it was that it was quite crumbly.

Under water it crumbles quite quickly which is no surprise given it was a bit crumbly. It also gives the water a yellow tinge and does create a very soft bath. Bubbleswise it wasn't initally amazing but that can easily be fixed by spa jets.

I liked the bath it created so I'd use it again. Because I use my spa bath I would also only use half the bubbleroon at a time to use it more economically.

Not enough yuzu for me

I'm a sucker for anything labelled Yuzu. I'm a big fan of anything flavoured with the Japanese fruit so I grabbed one of these when they first arrived instore at Lush. It has since been relaunched and mine had been hanging around awhile so the new formulation may well differ from this review.

This bubble bar comes in two halves, just like a macaroon and sandwiched together with a cream filling (sounds good enough to eat, huh?) I used the first half with the cream filling quite sometime ago and forgot about the second half. Once I found it again and finally got round to using it, the scent was not very strong. Also Lush recently released a shower cream version of this which smells much, much stronger.

When I use bubble bars I pop them in a little net to run hot water directly over them, rather than crumble them with fingers. This disperses the bar quickly and produces lots of bubbles (an old stocking will do the same) So I was really disappointed with the amount of bubbles. It produced a lot less than other bubble bars that I've used smaller amounts of. At first I thought it was because I've had the bubble bar for too long. However reading other reviews it seems others have found the same.

The small amount of bubbles also quickly disappeared as soon as I got in the bath. It was pleasant enough and left my skin feeling soft but I much prefer the shower cream for my yuzu hit. I think I'll eventually try this again in the new formula to see if it's any better. But there's plenty more lush I 'need' to try first.

Tips: Try the shower cream with the same name for a bigger yuzu hit.

What bubbles?

I purchased the older version of this in January when the man and I went on a road trip and I 'happened' to find a Lush store (it was planned, let's face it). It was half price as their sales were still on so once the peachy orange color had caught my eye, I had a quick sniff, decided I liked it and placed it next to the other Lush products in my basket.

Today was the day I finally used it, and I was surprised. Though it had held its shape and color very well, it produced little to no bubbles even though I used half of the bubbleroon. The upside to this though, is the fact that it made the water a silky, creamy (very) pale orange and provided enough bubbles for me not to get angry at having too many bubbles!

The smell had deteriorated quite a bit, but what I got was a lovely creamy sort of citrus smell with a hint of sweetness from something else. Whether it was chocolate or not, I'm not sure. It wasn't a big pow-wow in your face citrus smell either, which I appreciate. it was lovely and relaxing, and that's enough to make me want to try the newer version!

Yuzu for you

I bought this bubbleroon with some others from Lush online, mainly because they look so cute.

This one is orange and looks like a melting moment biscuit.

I use half for each bath so each bubbleroon lasts for two baths.

They crumble slowly and colour the water a muddy dark orange colour.

Before it hits the water it has a mild smell that is pleasant but which I can’t identify. I didn’t really notice the smell in the water, but could smell it on my skin when I got out.

Like the other coloured/flavoured bubbleroons, it makes the water very soft without being too greasy.

I liked it, but do prefer a stronger scented product.

I don’t know if I’ll ever buy another one though, because I there are other products, especially in the Lush family, that I prefer.

These would make cute little gifts and stocking fillers for others though, so I do recommend buying some to try yourself or gift to others.

Lovely product but didn't like the smell

When these bubbleroons came to Lush last year I grabbed a couple in each variety, as you know, I am a hoarder! This bright little macaroon shaped bath time treat was saved for one of those days when it was gloomy outside and I needed a pick me up.

Comprising of 2 circle (ish) shaped bright yellow caked bubble bar with a centre cementing them together. How you use is to crumble under the running tap as you fill the bath, being in a easily dividable shape it is great to get 2 uses out of the product but I went whole hog and crumbled both sections at once.

The bright yellow bubbleroon dissolved into the water turning it a banana colour with a mass of bubbles. It was great to soak in and left my skin feeling smooth but I just don't like the scent of this, there is a mix of banana and something musky, almost woody that wasn't clicking with me at all. Ended up giving my 2nd one to my niece when she visited.
