So, this definitely works but in my opinion is a bit difficult to get right. The moisturizing aspect of it is great but the smell is very fake tan-ish. I ended up with very orange hands no matter how much I washed them so definitely would recommend wearing gloves. You can get a lovely colour, just be careful with blotchiness etc

Tips: Wear gloves!
Without a doubt Dove Summer Glow Medium to Dark tint works. I used it daily for a week and started to look like I had a lovely post Island holiday golden tan with just a small bit a patchiness on my knees. Another week later, using it every second day, I looked like I was the illegitimate daughter of an oompahloompah. Now I'm waiting for it to fade back to an island-time tan and will only use it a couple of times a week. It does have a strong fake tan smell too that my Flowerbomb could not hide.
Tips: Use for a week then just 2-3 times a week after that. Use strong perfume to try to mask the smell.
In my quest to get a bronzed, beach-ready look I think I've tried most tanning products on the market. I have a medium skin tone, and like to use tanning products to give me some extra colour for summer.
On a trip to the supermarket this caught my eye and I purchased this, hoping it would give me the look I was after, a lovely bronzed glow -ready to hit the beach!
However, I can't say that this product achieved that!
The packaging is distinctively Dove, in its flip top cap and simple, yet sleek look. I've tried many Dove products in the past and was hoping this would be good, as its so reasonably priced in comparison to my other tanning products I usually use, such as St Tropez and Loreal.
I can't say I'm a fan of the scent, which I found slightly overpowering. The fiancé asked 'what's that smell?', making it obvious he wasn't too impressed with what he thought was a new fragrance I was wearing! :-)
The formula quickly absorbs into my skin and makes it feel nice and hydrated. The lotion doesnt have a tint, so I found it hard to know if I had put it on evenly. I found when it dried it was rather streaky and obvious I had used tanning products- not a good look.
This is not a product I would repurchase, as I prefer tanning lotions to get a bronzed look & then normal moisturisers to maintain it.
Overall, I'm not impressed with this product, as it didnt seem to work for me.
A body lotion that adds a hint of colour, so it gradually builds up to a nice looking tan that is easy to maintain with just another application of lotion. Simple and effective. Smells good, different to fake tan which is always a plus. It's a nice body lotion and absorbs well without being greasy.
This was my holy grail tanner, I used it daily, loved it, had the most natural looking tan. That was a few years ago, just recently I bought it again and it just doesn't give me the same colour. I don't know if it's me or the lotion but it just doesn't look smooth and natural on me any more. It seems a bit more orange than it used to be. I'm a little sad because it was such a perfect match for me but not anymore. I think it may be better on someone with a bit of a base tan to start with.
Tips: Make sure you have been exfoliating in the weeks leading up to application, don't expect to exfoliate once and then apply a nice even tan.
I didn't like this lotion at all. The smell especially was off putting and very strong. It tanned your legs but was very un-natutal and fake looking. It made your clothes smell awful too. Wasn't a fan and wouldn't use it again.
I have very, very fair skin and use fake tan year round to achieve much darker skin. Whilst the Dove Summer Glow Body Lotion is a lovely product, it didn't work for me. Applying this to my natural, fair skin was like applying a standard moisturiser. It was easy to apply, absorbed well and left my skin feeling hydrated with no oily residue after two minutes. Unfortunately because this product has no colour guard, it really does look like a standard lotion, therefore I could not see patches that had no product, or areas that had too much. My skin remained hydrated until the next morning which was a lovely change from the tanning products that usually leave my skin feeling dry and tight.
However, the next morning I was left with patchy, streaky skin. There were parts of my legs that remained very pale, whilst others had streaks of tan. I applied on prepped skin and used circular motions, but because I couldn't see the product, combined with my fair skin, I was left with a streaky mess. The streaks were only one shade darker than my natural skin, and I do prefer a much darker finish. This product doesn't apply well with a tanning mitt, therefore I did have to scrub my hands after applying.
Whilst this product did not work for me, I can see that it would have its place. For anyone with medium to dark skin tones who are wanting a slight change could reach for this affordable product. It would be particularly fitting for older women who don't want to fuss around with fake tanners, and like the idea of a moisturiser that gives a slight tint. This would also be a nice product to apply after a day at the beach or to maintain a spray tan. I do believe the streaks were only so visible because of the original canvas.
Tips: This applies better with hands, rather than a tanning mitt, but don't forget to give them a good scrub when finished.
Guys. I will be honest. This product has a horrible fake tan smell, the outcome makes you look orange, no matter how much you wash your hands after the application they still manage to go orange.
I'm not hugely into fake tans or anything and this product put me off even more. It felt like a regular body moisturizer, super thick in consistency, which made it hard for me to apply and to judge the amount that I needed to use. It was also very streaky, loved having people making comments about it the next day. Maybe for more advanced users of fake tans and such might have a better chance at making this look decent, but at least for beginners such as myself, I'd stay far away from this product.
I love that you can moisturise your skin and tan at the same time.... but for me that's the only highlight.
This runs more on the orange/red side rather then a green and brown base. You can't see if you've put to much in one spot or not enough. only until it develops do you see your master piece or trying to find clothes or something to cover up. Its kind of like a game of roulette.
(I would love it if they made this with a colour payoff so you can see where you have put it) When tans first started becoming more of the norm, you know that TAN smell; this smells like that. The bottle open and closes well and is easy to use
This product reminds me of being in high school and I still get a bit of ptsd thinking about it. It would leave me streaky and orange, the smell was over powering and the product didn't really soak it, you can always feel the product like stuck to your skin which was unpleasant.
Tips: Don't pack it on or you will regret it
