Light Cleanser

I purchased this as part of the Essano Rosehip Kit after hearing so many ladies rave about the range on here and reading about the benefits of rosehip oil.

I have oily, acne-prone skin so normally I tend to go for cleansers which specifically target these concerns, but I have previously used a more gentle cleanser and it worked really well with my skin so I wanted to give this a go.

I really liked the pump bottle it came in, it's my preferred style of packaging when it comes to cleansers as I find it allows you to disperse just the right amount of product without wastage.

Like the other products in the Essano Rosehip range, this has a lovely light rose fragrance, which is feminine but not overpowering, especially as I dislike a strong fragrance in skincare. The formula is a clear, gel-like liquid which is quite thin in consistency, similar to a lotion. I used a few pumps of this applied directly to my wet face, using either my hands or my exfoliating brush to cleanse my face.

I found that despite being a 'foaming' cleanser this didn't really seem to foam much for me at all, even with a few pumps. I also didn't feel like it really provided a thorough cleanse so preferred to use it at the end of the day after using a makeup remover and with the exfoliating brush to really give a proper cleanse.

This is a very gentle product and I liked that after using it my skin did feel clean and soft. I probably wouldn't purchase it myself again though as I felt it didn't really provide the clean my troubled skin really needs by itself and I would prefer something with a bit more punch to meet my skincare needs.

Tips: The Essano Rosehip Kit is a great way to trial this product to see if it's for you, and the trial-size bottles are great for keeping and taking away with you as you can refill them from a full-size.

Just pretty average

I decided to try a new range and thought the Essano sounded like it would be just the kind of cleanser I needed. I wanted something natural, and I've heard such incredible things about Rosehip. The pump bottle is fantastic for dispensing, however it can be a bit of a nuisance when you get to the end of the bottle and want to get the last of the product out. I liked how gentle the cleanser was on my skin, and it didn't leave my skin feeling dry and tight like some others can. The downside though was it didn't remove all my makeup, I found I needed to cleanse a couple of times on the full-face makeup days. And I'm not sure 'foaming' should be in the product description - I didn't ever really get a foam from it at all.

Overall a fairly nice product, but pretty middle of the range in my opinion

Tips: If you're wearing makeup, wash your face twice to ensure you've removed it all.

Didn't remove my makeup

I got a trial pack of the Essano range and being a huge fan of rosehip oil and some of the other Essano products I was really hoping this cleanser would be great. Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. I found that the cleanser didn't remove my makeup. I have to cleanse a number of time or use another makeup removing product. The cleanser has a nice sweet but subtle scent. It claims to be a foaming cleanser but it didn't seem to foam up for me. It did leave my skin feeling nice and soft (after numerous washes to gt makeup off). I would only recommend it to some one who doesn't wear makeup.

Okay but not great

Like many others here I bought the pack of miniatures to try out this range of products. I was keen because this cleanser is free of parabens and claims to be made in NZ from organic ingredients. I was impressed enough after using up the sample to buy a full size product and have been using it for about three months now. On the plus side, this is an inexpensive, easily bought product, just pop it in with the weekly shop. It is in a handy pump package which dispenses just the right amount for cleansing the face and neck. I have found it to be lightly fragranced and easy to use. It makes a nice foam which spreads well. It rinses off easily and skin feels nice and clean after use. On the other hand I am finding that my skin feels a bit dry and tight after using this cleanser and I am in a hurry to put on my serum and moisturiser. Eye make up is not totally removed by this product either, but it is a bit much to expect from any cleanser! Previously I had been using a trilogy cream cleanser and changed mostly because of the fabulous expense - I will be going back to that product, but will continue to buy this for my teenaged daughters who are finding this cleanser great for their oilier skin.

Not my favourite

I liked the fact that this cleanser was more natural and didn't contain nasty chemicals but I'm not a huge fan of foaming cleansers. I much prefer cream cleansers and felt like I needed quite a bit of cleanser to actually clean my face. It has a light fragrance, which is pleasant but it left my face feeling a little dry. I really like some of the other Essano products but probably wouldn't use this one again.

Expected more

I recieved this product as part of a competition prize pack along with the Essano facial moisturiser, night cream & body lotion.

This cleanser is a clear gel that lathers into a smooth foam and has a sweet floral scent. It leaves my face feeling thoroughly clean & slightly taut but it doesn't do much for the texture, I don't notice my skin feeling any softer or smoother after washing with this. I get a little dryness after washing with this cleanser, just across the nose and around the corners of my mouth. Dry patches are rarely a problem for me nor is oiliness my skin is pretty much bang on 'normal' so I would say this cleanser is slightly drying, perhaps a good thing if you're prone to oily skin? However i've been using the Essano facial moisturiser after washing with this cleanser and it instantly relieves those little dry spots. This cleanser isn't great for removing makeup either.

Overall I find this cleanser to be fairly average, it does the job and it's lovely to use but I guess I expected more.

Tips: I think this cleanser would probably best be suited to oily skin types, definitely wouldn't recommend to anyone who has problems with dryness.

Rosehip Cleanser

UPDATE: My previous review is below. I tried this product again. I still had the bottle in the cupboard and I was too lazy to buy facewash so I thought I would give it a shot again. This time I trialed it without the moisturizer. I even used the whole bottle. Would I buy it again? No I found that it was lovely on my skin, smelt nice and didn't cause a reaction or massive pimples like last time, but it also didn't clear my acne up either. Was my skin any better from using it? Nothing noticeable to me. Would I recommend it? If you have sensitive skin and are after a facewash, and don't have acne, sure. It's lovely, feels and smells nice and lasted me a month but personally I wouldn't use it.

Original review: I've been keen for ages to try Rosehip products so I thought I would give this a go. I have sensitive, hormonal acne prone skin and struggle to find facewash that clears my skin without overdrying it and irritating it. Now normally i will try products for a month before I write them off. I cant say the same for this product. I gave up after a week. My skin had been doing resembly well with my previous facewash. Clear, redness fading, no deep spots. A week after using this product i had the worst acne break out i have had in months. Painful deep spots and heaps of them. I personally dont think my skin agrees with this product, although it may be the moisturer, also from Essano Rosehip. It was basically eating it and resulting in spots. Im really disappointed cause this is a lovely product. Its made in NZ, chemical free, smells like lollies and can be purchased from the supermarket. I will say to other people try it cause its nice but i cant say i will be using it again.

Essano Foaming Cleanser

I purchased this in the Essano Rose Hip Pack. I liked this product at first as it was a smooth texture, went on nicely to my skin and seemed to cleanse my skin well. I know I have dry skin so am always weary of "foam" cleansers as I always relate foam cleansers to be for an oily skin. My skin felt clean but after hopping out of the shower it actually started to feel quite tight round the sides of my face. I will use up the tube in the mornings as a quick wash over but wouldnt repurchase as I fell the cleanser I am using already does a better job and doesnt make my skin feel dry.

Tips: Just be careful if your skin is particularly dry like mine, might be better to go with a cream cleanser

Nice and Gentle

I got given this as a freebie in my online shopper order – SCORE !!  - I have really enjoyed Essano products so far so was excited to try this.

I included this in my morning shower routine. I always take my makeup off before bed with an oil cleanser and wash and moisturise my face but in the mornings I like to use a foaming cleanser or scrub to wake my skin up before I cover it up in a mountain of goodies before work .

Packaging wise the freebie comes as a small pink tube with a screw top lid it had a really lovely fresh rosehip oil slight fragrance to it, very mild. I popped some into my hand and lathered up on my face – this doesn’t foam up as much as a lot of foam cleansers do (im used to the Thursday plantation one which is super foamy) so it was much more noticeable. However it did feel great on my skin, didn’t irritiate and once out of the shower left my skin feeling clean and fresh but not dried out or tight or any of those things you can sometimes get from using foam cleanser on sensitive skin like mine.

I did end up buying this again when I had used up the freebie as its not very expensive I really liked this as part of my morning shower time routine. I wouldn’t use this as my night time cleanser to remove makeup or anything the oils do a much better job for me but as a way to waken and brighten my face in the morning this will be in my rotation for a wee while I think.

Essano cleanser

I was lucky enough to get to trial this although I had previously reviewed it quite a few years ago so I was interested to see whether the formula had changed at all. This comes in a brown frosted plastic bottle with a pump. It also comes with a little plastic clip attached so you don’t accidentally pump it whilst travelling.

You only need a small amount, not even a full pump, to cleanse your entire face. The clear gel only foams up a little and it feels very soft on your face. It washes off easily and leaves my skin feeling soft and clean. I do get a slight tightness but not as much as I would normally do with a foam cleanser. I've only used it once to remove makeup. Whilst it did this adequately, I found I had to rub my eyes quite a bit to get mascara off and I was only wearing light makeup. As I have very sensitive eyes, I didn’t use it to remove makeup again, so I think it would be best for a morning or second cleanse. It does have quite a strong floral fragrance, which I don't find unpleasant but it does have a bit of a detergent undertone.

I personally wouldn't purchase this as I prefer a non-foaming cleanser- Essano’s cream cleanser in the same range is great! But if you are a foaming cleanser fan, this a great budget friendly option.

Tips: Pick up the sample pack to try the whole range. The night cream is amaaaazing!
