Being an alternative to regular retinol it doesn’t upset my skin. However it doesn’t soak in and even when applying moisturiser up to five minutes later, the moisturiser doesn’t rub in easily. This is despite only using a couple of drops of the product.

I’ve heard that retinol is one of the only scientifically proven skincare ingredients you can get so I was keen to try it. I came across this Essano one which is actually a natural retinol from something called Bukuchiol. I tried it morning and night for a couple of weeks but realised the instructions say not to use it in the morning (fail!). Anyhow about 4 drops at night was enough. The serum really does feel like an oil, not light like I was expecting - I guess that’s the rosehip oil component in it. Because of this I didn’t really like the scent which reminded me of a previous rosehip purchase I didn’t enjoy. It feels a little oily on my skin so I wait 15 minutes or for it to sink in before I apply my night cream. I’ve got pretty strong combination skin so didn’t really feel any sensitivity whilst using this like I might do with an AHA but it was a little oily for me. After using for a while I’m not sure whether it’s done much but I do see I’m less clogged up on my nose and my tone has evened out. Using this had made me decide to try a more chemical retinol next and if you are sensitive this one might be a nice alternative.
Tips: If you want to try it as a primer it’s really nice under a BB cream.
Big fan of Essano products, which is why I was so delighted to find this in my Christmas BBBE. After having used this pretty regularly at night for a couple of months (it’s only running out now!) I’ve noticed the fine lines on my forehead are… gone? I’m turning 28 soon so there probably wasn’t much to start with. In any case, I’m chuffed with that result. The other wrinkles/lines on my face were developing under and in the outter corners of my eyes. Those ones haven’t really diminished heaps, but they haven’t got worse either. I’m not sure if I will purchase again for a while as the lines/wrinkles aren’t very concerning to me. I will, however, continue using other Essano products as I always find them helpful and useful.
Nice product, I was looking for a retinol alternative that wasn’t super expensive. I’d been using another brand, but was finding it expensive to keep buying and wanted to try something else. I really like this, it smells great with a nice texture. I’m turning 30 this year, so I’ve been wanting to add active products to my routine, I’ve noticed my skin is less red, and my active breakouts clear more quickly and don’t get as inflamed. Overall would continue to purchase as it’s a great price and seems to be effective so far.
Tips: A little goes a long way. I like to let mine soak in, and then apply moisturiser over the top to seal it in
I haven’t really used retinol before using this product which I found instantly brighten my skin and smoothed fine lines. It transformed my skin making it dewy and younger looking after the applied it. Lovely to use under my moisturiser.
I am a fan of Essano products, made in New Zealand, majority of ingredients are from a natural source. It comes in a 20ml glass bottle with a dropper top. Clear oil, slightly scented with Bakuchiol which is not my favourite scent but quickly fades. Ingredients include Bakuchiol which is a plant based alternative to Retinol without the downside of increased sun-sensitivity, inflammation and dry flaky skin. Jojoba seed oil, Rosehip, fruit oil Vitamin E, and Sunflower seed oil. The serum sinks in fairly well to my skin and only need about half of the glass dropper full for face and decolletage. Skin feels immediately hydrated and refreshed and the little bottle is going to last for ages. Fine lines seem softened a little.
Tips: Use after cleansing and before moisturiser. Use morning and night. Budget friendly compared to some more pricey serums.
My third product l have been using in the Essano range , It's great it can be used during day and at night I have been doing massage to areas of my face every day night and day , l use this its very smooth and goes into my skin very easily The other l use in the range is collagen boost night cream and advanced brightening vitamin C serum ,
I absolutely love this. I have dry skin so I love the texture of this because it’s like an oil on the slightly thicker side. I love how this is a natural ‘retinol’ so I can use this in the mornings and not be worried about irritation and sun sensitivity. This helps moisturise my dry skin in the morning before I follow up with an actual moisturiser and spf. I love this product a lot and a little goes a long way! I’ve used this everyday for about the last 6 months and still have more than half the bottle left! I don’t have a lot of fine lines and wrinkles so can’t say if this helps with those areas, but as a moisturising agent, I love this and think it works great with dry skin.
I put off trying this product for so long thinking it just would not be something I would like....I was so wrong! This retinol is so gentle does not irritate my skin and feel so calming and nourishing. I thought I would not like that it was more of an oily substance but it's not a greasy oil it just feels so nice applying and still leaves my skin hydrated by morning without the greasy heaviness. I love to use this around my eyes because it's so light and I actually think it's making a wee bit of a difference, I still have fine lines but I think they look a bit less prominent I especially notice when I'm wearing makeup they just look a bit kore smoother. I dont think this product will helps reduce the deep wrinkles just because it is so gentle but for an over all tad more smoothness I think its worth trying out. Even if it doesn't work the way you want it to it's still feels so beautiful on the skin. I dont think that I have repurchased the same retinol product twice but I have purchased this one as my one is almost gone because I do enjoy using it in my night time routine and love that this is a brand that we can easily access in nz.
My skin is not typically sensitive, but once in a while a product can be a little much for my skin. This serum is one of them
The serum itself is lovely, and light. Only a few drops needed. I tried to persevere with it a couple more times - days apart, until I realised we were not going to be friends and my skin was about to be ruined.
For me - not long after applying, I'd feel my skin heating up to a burning point, and in the mirror I could see it was bright red. I immediately cleansed my face and popped a barrier cream on but the burning feeling continued. Every use the same reaction - I stopped at 3 uses. I did a little research after this, and my experience isn't a one off sadly - but there were lots and lots of happy customers too...
I love Essano products, so I think this one is just an extra powerful retinol product - and definitely not for all skin types. I took a bit of repair with barrier cream to get my skin to recover. I have used a lot of retinol products - some more powerful I would have thought - and I've had no issues with them, so it could be the natural ingredient that didn't agree with my skin I suspect
I'd caution anyone that has sensitive skin or can react to products from time to time, as this one was definitely one of the more severe reactions I've had in a really long time!
