Finally a sunscreen I can use!

I had stopped using sunscreen most days because I hated the greasy heavy, feeling the shiny look and the disgusting smell. La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light has changed all that! Since this little ray of sunshine has landed in my lap, I have worn it every day! It is scent free and so light! Lighter than my daily moisturizer. No more white streaks you just can't rub in with this sunscreen. Honestly, when I first tried it I was extremely skeptical, I thought it wasn't going to work because it was so nice. We have had some amazing weather and I have spent some of it doing gardening all day with my 10yr old daughter and neither of us turned into a red lobster. I am fair skinned so to find a sunscreen this nice that actually works is kind of life-changing. The extra bonus was, it never caused me to break out, not even one spot! The handy sized bottle makes it easy to just throw in my bag and the little nozzle prevents too much from coming out at once. The only downside would be the price but I will happily pay it because this is a genuine quality product that is and does everything it claims.

Tips: Use instead of your daily moisturizer just remember to reapply as needed.

Worth the price tag

This facial sunscreen carries a pretty hefty price tag for only 50ml (about $32 I think) however it is TOTALLY WORTH EVERY CENT! It applies beautifully to the face and you only need a small amount.

The product comes in small white bottle with a screw top lid. I found the lid a little annoying because it requires two hands to put back on (whilst also juggling the sunscreen you've poured into your hand). I think a flip top would have been better.

The cream itself is quite a thin cream. You only need a really small amount to cover your face and neck. It glides on to the skin really well (I prefer to apply moisturiser before sunscreen so this probably helps). The cream is not at all greasy or sticky like most sunscreens. It absorbs into the skin almost immediately and you wouldn't even know it was on there.

I found it worked really well both under make up (although I did find that applying a moisturiser on top of the sunscreen made make up application easier) and on its own.

This is easily the best facial sunscreen I have tried. It's actually hard to believe it's sunscreen since it doesn't have that horrible sunscreen smell or greasiness. It's pricey, but a little goes a long way and I will definitely be buying this again.

Tips: Apply moisturiser overtop of the product before applying make up

Works Great for Oily Skin

I was lucky to be chosen part of this trial team as growing up in New Zealand, slip, slip and slap was ingrained into my daily life, especially due to the hole in the ozone layer. I have naturally tanned skin and I often get burnt by the sun during summer even with sunscreen on, so I was pretty curious to see how well the La Roche-Posay facial sunscreen will work for my skin. The sunscreen is packaged in a box with one of the cutest bottles I’ve ever seen. It’s shaped in a mini sunblock bottle in 50ml size, which is perfect to keep and carry around in the handbag. It’s supposed to be fragrance free, but it smells like just any other sunblock. This sunscreen was particularly created for the face and is perfect for sensitive skin.

I followed the instructions on the packaging, by first shaking the bottle well before applying it on clean skin at least 15-20 minutes before exposure. The bottle opening has a nozzle where the sunscreen easily came out. I found the sunscreen to be quite runny, which is very different to other sunscreens. The formula is white in colour and the texture is light and non-greasy. I dotted my face with the sunscreen, so there was an even coverage as I rubbed it in and then applied it to my neck, chest and ears, as they were exposed as well. I have oily skin and I was amazed at how non-greasy it was as my skin felt smooth and supple without any shine. I went about to do my usual facial routine with applying moisturiser and makeup afterwards. My makeup lasted the whole day without it fading or running down my face in the heat and I also didn’t get a burning sensation in my eyes which I get when the sunscreen runs down my eyes due to the sweat in the heat. I also didn’t feel the burn on my skin and it didn’t turn red at all while I was making the most of being outdoors in the beautiful sunny weather for a good few hours.

Overall, I think this is a great sunscreen and I would repurchase it at some point. My only concern is how much will it cost me if I had to repurchase this as the bottle is so opaque, I can’t see how much if it I have used and to me it feels as if I’ve already used half of it. So, in that sense if I had to purchase it every 2 – 3 weeks for $32 I don’t know if I’m personally willing to spend all that money as I’d prefer to get one that lasts me a few months.

Tips: Use sunscreen throughout the year as there are still harmful UV rays about. Also, regardless of what colour of the rainbow you are, it's still important to lather up in sunscreen.

SPF50 sunscreen

This product is the best facial sunscreen that I have tried, and I have tried quite a few! This is very light weight and is not greasy at all. It absorbs really quickly into the skin. It didn't break me out at all, so it is very gentle on the skin. I found that worked really well under foundation and also under primer. But it was so moisturizing that I found I could skip primer and just wear this under my foundation as a base. This is a product I can see me reaching for to use on a daily basis!

White and Greasy

I have had outstanding results from other La Roche Posay sunscreen, so had high hopes for this.

50ml is the standard size offered by LRP for all their facial sunscreens, but the price is still relatively high compared to other sunblocks available at the pharmacy.

The product instructs you to shake the bottle vigorously before application. I’ve found I have to shake for at least two minutes to guarantee I won’t get white patches which then ball up and rub off my face! This would be extra annoying if you have a dark or tan skin tone.

It claims to be ultra lightweight, but I found the product very oily. I like a moisturising element to my sunscreen but this would definitely not work well for oily skinned individuals.

Overall, I won’t repurchase. However the LRP comfort sunscreen range is absolutely worth investing in.

Fabulous - light texture

Absolutely love the feel of this face sunblock. It was recommended by the pharmacy to me when my original favourite was out of stock. I hate smelling like a coconut with a thick face block on and this is the exact opposite. No smell and light enough to wear on top of moisturiser and before any foundation without feeling like you have another layer of skin care on. I'll be getting this one again for sure.

Nice light sunscreen

I have been using this La Roche-Posay sunscreen for just over a week now. I have found it to be super easy to apply due the consistency being quite runny (it's not like normal sunscreens which are quite gluggy. A little goes a long way for sure. I have been applying it under my BB cream everyday, it absorbs really fast so you can put the BB cream straight on top. It doesn't smell just like the packaging suggests. And it also doesn't have that greasy feeling like some sunscreens have, very light weight. It has interesting packaging, at first it looks like a prescription from the chemist so maybe they could make it look more inviting. I am definitely keen to keep using the product.

A very good product

I must admit i was quite surprised at the size of the bottle when i first received it. Even the consistency of the product was a little surprising. The bottle itself is quite small ( but not too much of an issue considering the amount of product you need is less), however, for the price the product does not feel very luxe at first glance or feel. Basically does not match the sound of the fancy name. Also a fliptop lid would be more practical for us ladies who dont like their bottles getting greasy. The product itself is fluid-like and very easy to glide on. It works as an excellent makeup base, however, if you want to wear your makeup for a long time you might notice your pores start getting magnified by the end of the day, but this is natural considering the product is a SPF50. For daily use, the product is awesome and does what it says it would do. Is not very greasy..almost feels non greasy but you do know you have something on. It has no fragrance which is a good thing, a very handy size for the handbag. On the first application, i didn't feel any tingling or burning or any different sensation..it went on as a normal moisturizer.'i have grown to love the consistency and would'nt like to go back to a thicker one. All in all i would definitely keep using the product as the pros outweigh the cons.

Tips: Liquid consistency so please be a little careful when getting the product out.

Worth the price

I initially started using this while travelling as the small bottle appealed to me and I wanted something light for my face but with high protection. I am a big fan! It offers high protection without being shiny or feeling too heavy. It sits well under makeup and isn't visible on the skin. The bottle lasts surprisingly well because once it's on, I find I don't need to reapply for the rest of the day. My skin can be a bit sensitive at times but did not react to this product.

Overall really like this but a couple of drawbacks

So I really liked that this was more of a milk lotion and not a cream. It mean it didn't feel sticky at all once it was on which is one of my main issues with sunscreen. It felt super light and I slapped my make up on the top with no issue at all. Didn't seem to impact my make up in a negative way at all. So in terms of texture and ease of use, 10 out of 10! I also liked the nozzle which is came out of which made it really easy to use sparingly.

So negatives for me were only two. The first was the packaging is ugly - it looks very clinical and not like a beauty product - I suppose that makes it feel expensive and professional? The next thing for me was the smell on application - overwhelming alcohol/ethanol smell when it comes out the bottle. It doesn't last but it's definitely there when applying it. I wonder if it's due to being for sensitive skin that they haven't tried to hide this with perfume.

Tips: You only need a little bit - it goes a long way.
