I’m no stranger to self tanning products, from the infamous all over orange shades from the early 2000’s to the enormous variety of gels, creams, foams and drops on the market today.
I used to use SugarBaby tanning products back in the 2010’s era and I loved them, so I was very excited to see them making a comeback with updated formulas & very cute packaging! I’ve used tanning drops once before but I wasn’t a huge fan (Bondi Sands) simply because they didn’t mix well with the skincare products I use. Thankfully I didn’t have that issue with SugarBaby!
For reference I have fair skin, prone to redness, oily t-zone but also dehydrated. I do not tan naturally (I’m a burner) and my skin can appear quite blue even when I’m not cold.
For skincare I use La Roche Posay products and a few Korean Beauty items. On the body I use Nivea Coco Lotion. These drops blend perfectly with all.
Now onto the product itself. It has a viscous serum like consistency and isn’t sticky at all. If you were to use it on its own, it would blend very very smoothly, but I’m not brave enough to do that so I mix it with my moisturiser at the end of my skincare routine. The first night that I used it I woke up with a very subtle glow which was more than enough for me over autumn, but to test the product properly I continued with the application each night after my shower.
There is no hint of orange and the tan appears very even and also helps to counteract the redness that I sometimes experience throughout the day. A little goes along way which is amazing and you really do only need a few drops for the face. As somebody with sensitive skin who has reacted poorly to some tanning products in the past, it’s always a bit nerve wrecking testing out a new one because I never know which products I’m going to react to. Thankfully, I didn’t react at all to this product and I noticed absolutely zero sensitivity on any part of my body.
Overall, I’m really impressed with the sugar baby tanning drops and I will continue to use them and will more than likely re-purchase once this bottle runs out!
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this product.
I have tried these both on my face and body, I opted to go straight onto clean skin (with 3 drops) as opposed to mixing with moisturizer as I thought it would give a darker glow but unfortunately, I was only left with the slighest hint of colour.
I then used it for 3 consecutive nights to see if I could build up the colour, I did get a slight bronze to where I'd applied it to my body, but my face didn't achieve a noticeable glow (this could be attributed to the fact our faces are washed more often and thoroughly with multiple products?).
This product may be good for someone new to tanning, or who only likes a suble hint of colour, but for myself, I would prefer just to go straight in with a normal tanning mousse for my body. I will keep using this on my face though to see if I can achieve the intended result, and because its a lot more gentler than traditional tanning products.
Tips: Grab the SugarBaby Instant Glow bronzing creme instead if you're just after a quick fix!
