Didn't Live Up To The Hype

The hype around this product was huuuge and as an avid YouTube watcher, I was so excited when it finally reached our shores that I went out and got some on the first day it was released here.

I picked mine up for $10.99 from New World on introductory sale. For 400ml of product I thought that was pretty good! And up to 200 uses?! You could pay that much for 30 odd makeup wipes!

The packaging is minimal but there is something 'clean' and 'fresh' about it, its very suitable to the product and I really like it. The pink pop top snaps shut well which is awesome as I'm not too worried about it spilling in my overnight bag.

The liquid itself is very watery and to me smells faintly of coconut?? It is designed to be poured onto a cotton round or similar and used like a regular makeup wipe. I found this removed my face makeup well but really struggled with my eye makeup and I have to scrub a wee bit to get the majority off. I need to use at least 3-4 rounds to get off a face of makeup and seem to be going through this product very fast, only have about 1/3 product left! With that said, the formula doesn't sting the eyes which is a bonus!

It says that you can leave this as is without rinsing but this to me seems ridiculous! It leaves a slight film on my face and I always use this as a pre-cleanse only so always wash with my cleanser afterward. I have also been breaking out more than usual and have developed eczema on my eyelids after trying this and its the only thing thats changed in my makeup/skincare routine and diet.

The other thing that bothers me about this product is that it gets so bubbly after shaking it/if its in a bag! Not like foamy bubbly, like big giant bubbles that remind me a lot of dishwashing liquid bubbles. Something about this is very unappealing to then put on my face.

Overall this product is good but definitely not amazing and I don't think its the right one for my skin type which is unusual as I have normal/combo skin which is never usually sensitive. The huge hype around it led it to be more of a let down. My viewpoint on it is that as a pre-cleanse I still far prefer makeup wipes - a little more expensive but far less effort and I don't have the sensitivity issues that I seem to be getting with this product. For me, the Garnier Micellar water didn't work as well as I was hoping so I will be sticking to makeup wipes as my pre-cleanse from now on

Micellar water worth the hype?

Just like everyone else, when this product launched in NZ I couldn't wait to pick it up. I found it at my local Pak 'n' Save for $9.99, bargain! The bottle is simple and cute with a generous amount of product.

Looking at it, you think okay it's just water but it's supposed to help remove make up? So I wasn't 100% sure whether it would actually be able to remove heavy duty makeup. After I night out I tried it on my dry face with a full face of make up on. To my surprise it worked great! It removed all my face makeup quite easily, only a small amount of rubbing was needed. I held the cotton round on each eye before swiping and all my eyeliner and mascara came off. I was amazed at how something that looked like water could get all that make up off.

I used 3 cotton rounds in total to get a completely clean face. It didn't leave any residue on my face, it completely soaked in so you could definitely just use this to cleanse. It is the perfect lazy girl make up remover.

I've been using it every night for 3 weeks now and I love it. I also love that it doesn't have a scent so it's good for my sensitive skin.

Definitely recommend!

Best Make Up Remover... In The Wooorld (orld orld)

Generally, I use a separate make up remover to remove my eye make up. But over the weekend, while I was travelling, this was put to the test. And it passed.

I used to take off my eye make up, use a make up wipe for my face, cleanse my face with Cetaphil and then while I was toning, my cotton ball would come away with make up on it. I didn't care at the time, because hey, at least the toner was taking my make up off.

Now it's a whole new story. I use these big cotton rounds from KMart for both my eye make up remover and this Micellar Water (or just the water). One side of the pad for each eye, then both sides of the pad to do my whole face. Once I get to toning time, THERE IS NO MAKE UP ON MY FACE. NONE. At all. Once my Neutrogena eye make up remover runs out I think I'll just be using this for everything, because with that I'd sometimes still have panda eyes the next day, with this, I didn't. I love this stuff, at first I thought it was expensive, but I think this bottle will last me a really really long time. I love it! I really do.

Tips: Pour some into a container when you're travelling, this huge bottle takes up a TON of space!

Bit over hyped but is a good product not amazing

I brought this under all the hype about how it is a dupe for Bioderma. I use this before I cleanse my face with a Swissper cotton pad to remove most of my makeup. It does a good job of getting my face makeup off and brows before cleansing but for eye makeup such as strong mascaras and eyeliners it is a little hard to get off, eyeshadow it takes off easy. Since having short straight asian eyelashes I use mainly waterproof mascara and this just doesn't do the job for me I always have to go in with my Neutrogena eye makeup remover to get it off, which sucks because I thought this could be my holy grail one stop product to removing my makeup and strong mascara but sadly it doesn't. Apart from that I like how it is very gentle, and really preps my skin before getting the last remittance of makeup off my skin

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

I'll start with the positives - The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is great at removing makeup. It removes possibly 99% of all my makeup, and it doesnt sting. One not so positive, is the way it leaves my skin feeling after. It feels both oily and dry and I end up having to go and wash my face properly with a facial cleanser afterwards, which I dont have to do with my other makeup removers. It has caused small breakouts in the more sensitive areas of my face so this is quite a turn-off. Though seeing as it is really good at removing stubborn makeup, I use it only when I desperately need to.

Tips: If you have really sensitive skin, or skin that is prone to breaking out, I wouldnt reccomend, and it is probably a better eye and lip makeup remover, rather than a full face :)

Not Holy Water...

I had heard from so many people how this water was a miracle and was their holy grail cleanser/makeup remover. Now I am blasphemous by nature but I didn't expect this to fall so flat - even for a heretic :p

First of all this was damn near impossible to get my hands on. There was SO much hype about it that finding it seemed impossible. Eventually I found it and was extremely excited to try this water out.

The packaging is something I do like about this product. I like that the lid is a flip top, which makes using this hassle free. I also really like that the bottle is clear so I can see how much product is in it.

The product itself, however... I feel it is SUPER overrated. It could just be me but I didn't feel this did anything magical or anything that my cleansing oil can't do. In fact, this falls short of my cleansing oil. This does remove makeup - but only to a certain point. At least on me, anyway. Every time I have used this I have used my cleansing oil after it and still gotten makeup off of my face - even if I have double cleansed my face with this. While this doesn't hurt my eyes when using it to remove mascara and liner, nor does it actually remove the above. Well it kind of does - but there is always remnants of mascara and liner left, which I then have to use my cleansing oil to fully remove.

Whilst this is an inexpensive product, I feel that this definitely isn't worth the price - for me at least. It fell way below my expectations and I feel that a $2 pack of baby wipes does a better job than this at removing my makeup.

Overall this was super disappointing to me and I absol won't be purchasing it again. I will finish the bottle I have, but I won't buy it again.

Versatile and effective!

To be honest, I was sceptical of this product at first. However once I used it I was converted! It is a great cleanser for when you are on the go, great for those who travel. It's also a fantastic brush cleaner and restored my brushes to almost new!

Really affordable as well which is a bonus since you will be using it all the time!

Tips: Wonderful brush cleaner!

I was expecting such great things..

I follow a lot of UK people on Instagram who use and swear by this micellar water! They said it was like magic in a bottle. I couldn't wait til NZ started stocking this so I bought mine from FeelUnique. I was so excited about this product and sadly ended up being so disappointed. This barely removed any make up from my face when I pre cleansed and my eye make up just didn't budge! I was told to use this after cleansing but I didn't see the point as I prefer to use a proper toner after I cleanse. I wouldn't purchase this again, however I would still recommend it to people looking for something quick and easy after a night out because it seems a LOT of people out there love this micellar water. Sadly it seems like I'm one of the only people who weren't in love with this product :(

Tips: If you have a white dressing table like me and tend to make a mess while doing your face - this stuff is great for cleaning up afterwards! :)

I was expecting more too! I thought I read somewhere that it was meant to replace using dirty tap water to clean your face so it seems pointless using it like a toner or cleansing after using it! im glad I've tried it now I can move on!

Great Makeup remover

I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about this product prior to purchasing it. When I saw it was on special at Countdown I had to get it and try it for myself.

It comes in a verrry generous 400ml bottle which is clear with a pink lid. It's cute!

Now, I have used it in conjunction with my normal skin care routine as well as a final step just before going to bed (you know those kinds of nights when you've been out clubbing , when you get home taking off all your makeup is the LAST thing on your mind). I found that it look off a LOT of my makeup on those "I can't be bothered nights"

BUT .... I recently have been using it PRIOR to washing my face with my normal cleanser. I realised that it doesn't actually take off ALL my makeup... as my cleanser turns brown from the foundation it picks up that the micellar water has left behind.

It is a really good makeup remover, and I would recommend it for those off nights when you can’t be bothered with your full skin care routine, however, I would not recommend it as a replacement for a good cleanse.

Tips: Great to use prior to cleansing or on the nights when you're too tired to do a full cleanse. Pour some on a clean cotton pad and swipe over whole face.

Won't repurchase

I have been waiting a while before I typed my thoughts on this one, I wanted to really give this a good trial before voicing my opinion.

Firstly, I purchased this from the Supermarket on special for about $9. I waited until most of the hype was over and I'm glad, I don't like frantically trying to search down a product along with thousands of other people!

I'm pretty much at the end of my first bottle, and I have to say, I'm just not that impressed.

They say it's good for 200+ uses etc on the bottle -what?! I imagine that is only true if all you wore was mascara! I go through at LEAST 8 soaked cotton pads to remove my makeup, and I wouldn't say I wore heavy coverage. I'm not so keen on the feel of my skin afterwards, it just doesn't leave a nice 'clean' feeling, so I find I'm still reaching for another cleanser to finish the job. I have also noticed that it does irritate my skin too, leaving it red and blotchy, as well as a bit itchy.

All in all, I really don't like the product or the results and I won't repurchase.
