I was a little sceptical about how a balm can take off makeup but was pliantly surprised! The balm smells lovely and citrusy and fresh. The balm melts in your hands very quickly and is easy to apply. It does feel a little oily. It worked well and removed my day makeup really really well. I have sensitive skin around the eyes and it didn't irritate or sting. It worked well to remove evening makeup however did need some extra help for heavier eye makeup. After wiping with a warm damp cloth my skin felt moisturised and clean. I didn't wake up with oily skin (which I was expecting). I would purchase this product but only to use as a light makeup remover.

I really liked the funky little tin this came in which drew me too it. I have had mixed reviews on the goodness products so I was looking forward to giving this ago.
To put it to the test I made sure I put on full war paint on to see how well it would really break down the make up.
I feel a small scoop would have been nicemaybe hidden in the lid, I found the smell and texture a bit off putting I felt like I was just smearing my make up over my face more with this balm. I really didn't like the feel over my eyes.
After using a warm washer to remove the grease, my face felt nice and my make up was all removed. I thought it did an Impressive job at removing my makeup.
I would definitely recommend it to others but it's just not for me.
I recieved this in a best beautybox. I was so eager to try it since it has great reviews.
It comes in a cute tin and has a natural scent which i can't pin point sorry. The consistency looks hard but it's actually soft. The colour is yellow.
Put a small amount onto the palm of your hands and rub together to melt the product (takes a matter of seconds) the rub all over your dry face. Then wash your face with a warm flannel.
I found this product easy to use. Very simple and very effective. I was worried that my skin would be left with an oily residue but it wasn't. My face was 99% clear of makeup. Just a tiny amount of eyeliner left. I am happy with this product and would recommend it.
Tips: Leave product on for a few minutes to allow your skin to soak up all those natural goodies!
I grabbed this and another Goodness product randomly at Countdown the other week when they were on special. I think it was two for thirty dollars. I had been looking for a nice balm makeup remover since I chose to stop using Clinique TTDO because of their animal testing practices. I unscrewed the lid and I have to say I like the packaging. It is sturdy but still easy to get into. I like the fact that it is a tin as it seems less likely to break if it falls onto the bathroom floor.
I was a bit concerned to begin with that the product was a bit hard and waxy but it is reasonably easy to scoop out a little lump of balm and warm it up in your hands before massaging it into your makeup covered face. I use it on my eyes with no stinging or sensitive reaction. It breaks down mascara reasonably easily. Although I have only tried it with one mascara. The product shifts makeup effortlessly. Massage it in and wipe off with a warm flannel and hey presto, no makeup. It has a reasonably pungent lemon scent, which some days I find more pleasant than others. Overall it's OK. I feel like this doesn't break down with a warm flannel quite as easily as other balm cleansers I have used and does require a second cleanse to get rid of all the product. Having said that I don't dislike this and will probably repurchase. A little goes a long way and it is a good makeup remover. It hasn't caused any reactions or breakouts and leaves your skin feeling soft and moisturised. I like this cleanser.
Every time I use this balm which is 3 or 4 times a week (I alternate with my other make-up remover) the smell reminds me of grassy herbs, kind of like parsley! But that isn't off-putting, just makes me think of organic, wholesome healthy stuff. I like the texture, how when its warmed on your fingertips it melts and becomes supple and oily - in a good way. Yes it does what it says, my skin feels very cleansed but not stripped, its moisturizing too. The only drawback is I seem to get it in my eyes each time, which doesn't hurt in the slightest but my eyes always feel a little blurry afterwards - I think this is a user issue not so much the product!
Tips: Try not to rub it in your eyes!
I love this product for taking off my makeup at night! This doesn't feel harsh on the skin and can break down even the stubbornest of makeup! It does feel a bit greasy on the face and doesn't dry it out which I appreciate
Tips: Dont use too much at one time as it will feel gross. Start off small and gentle. Be careful around the eyes and use a warm flannel too!
I brought this to try a few weeks back on my skin. It’s been a bit temperamental so was after something gentle that hopefully worked.
I wasn’t too sure what to expect. But was pleasantly surprised.
It’s easy to use and fairly portable. I used a small amount to work into my skin. The area I am most concerned with removing makeup from is the eyes it’s delicate and makeup really sticks.
This mixes nicely to break up that makeup. It doesn’t lather. It’s like an ointment kind of that you spread over your face. Don’t think it makes you oily though I found it washed off easily and didn’t make me break out which was a worry.. I honestly thought this would clog my pores as it is quite heavy and doesn’t seem to bubble up and wash away.
It is effective at washing away the day. I still cleansed after.. so I will say I found this a little fiddly - the jar and the fact I feel the need to cleanse after. I do prefer a cleanser or micellar that will target makeup so I just feel this is an extra step.
Non the less it does what it says it will. It’s a little pricey for what it is but I will use it up. If you need something to target specific areas this could be it. But I will hunt for something that’s a bit easier to use next I think.
I purchased this as I loved the Trilogy Make Up Removal Balm but couldn't afford to repurchase that on a regular basis so I wanted a drugstore alternative. While not as amazing as the Trilogy one, this is an excellent make-up removal balm and very affordable. The balm comes in an adorable pastel yellow tin with artwork on the bottom half of the tin. I love that this comes in a tin as I prefer less plastic in my beauty regime and the tin can be reused afterwards for storing bits and bobs like earrings. The size is 80mL which I find didn't last me long as I tend to wear heavy full faces of make up and require a lot of product each use. The balm is pale yellow in colour and quite greasy in texture compared to over make up removal balms. This has the typical earthy smell a lot of goodness products do; it's not unpleasant but there is a strong aroma of chia seed oil and sunflower seed oil, so steer clear if you don't like strong scents. This says to use just a fingernail amount but I found I need a large scoop of about three to four fingertips in size to do my entire face if I am wearing lipstick and full on eyeshadow. A smaller amount suffices if I am just removing face/base make up. This is super gentle, and gently melts away all of my make up. It doesn't work well on matte lipsticks as it tends to smear the colour everywhere without fully removing it, so I recommend using a micellar water to remove liquid lipstick and use this for the rest of the face. This wipes away foundation in seconds, but requires a bit more work to remove heavy eye make up, especially mascara which takes a few wipes with this and a wet cloth to remove. However, I find this much gentler to use than regular make up remover, and more environmentally friendly as it just requires a cloth rather than cotton make up pads. This also hydrates the skin nicely whilst gently removing make up. This does leave a greasy residue however after use which I find I need to wipe off with a towel, or cleanse off with a cleanser afterwards. Overall, I think this is an excellent affordable make up removal balm, but it isn't my favourite due to the greasiness and the small amount of product included.
I have used other products by Goodness so I was super excited to trial this one – especially because of how cute it looked. I do love that it is made in New Zealand and vegan.
This product is easy to use and a great size that is perfect for travelling as well as everyday use. I have been using it for a week and I feel like I have barely made a dent in the amount of product. I would guess this will last me quite a while. You simply scoop out a little bit of the product (they suggest about a fingernail sized amount – I used a little more depending on how heavy my makeup was), ‘smoosh’ it on your face (as the company instructs) – on dry skin – massage it around your face and into your makeup, then simply wipe off with a warm, damp cloth. I personally used this right before showering so I applied the product then massaged it off with hot water in the shower.
The cutest packaging ever! This product comes in a small 80ml tin, with a patterned, pastel paint-splashed container (tin bottom) and a cute matching lemon yellow lid. I don’t usually reuse beauty product containers but I for sure will be reusing this cute one! It feels and looks luxurious and really makes you think that it is a quality product. Although this product won’t break the bank, this packaging alone gives off the feeling of quality.
It also smells quite nice for a make-up remover! It is lightly lemon scented which is one of my favourite scents as it equal parts refreshing and calming. I love the ingredients in this product: coconut, olive, sunflower seed, chia seed and avocado oils! I am not a huge fan of the feeling of oily skin, but once this product was washed off thoroughly, my skin simply felt soft and hydrated rather than super oily. I tend to have sensitive, dry-combination skin and although the feeling of heavy, oily skin was definitely something to get used to, after thoroughly wiping the product off this heavy feeling went away (I wouldn’t call the product itself lightweight but once removed this heavier feeling went away).
Unfortunately, this product didn’t seem to be able to remove all of my makeup. It definitely removed the lighter makeup (foundation, BB cream, some eyeshadow) but it didn’t seem to be able to handle the heavier eyeliner or mascara. However, it did seem to make it easier to remove when I used my usual cleanser straight afterwards. For this reason alone I will continue to use it – if it makes my make-up easier to remove with cleanser then that is still a win in my book!
Despite this, I will continue to use this product as it made it easier to remove my make-up than with cleanser alone. I will also continue to use this – especially in the colder, winter months when my skin gets drier – as was nicely hydrating on my sensitive skin. Essentially, I wouldn’t rely on this product alone to remove all make-up, but when using alongside a cleanser it definitely made my make-up easier to get off!
Tips: A great addition to your skincare routine rather than a replacement.
Added edit: I noticed that over time the product in the tin went grainy/gritty. I think this is as it lives on my vanity and moisture has gotten in. In light of that I don't like the feel of the product the same way - however it does still work.
I was lucky enough to receive this as a trial item. The tin itself has a very retro feel, however i would mark it a 4/5 as it dents very easily (arrived slightly dented) and possibly as a result of this it can be fiddly to screw the top back on properly.
Scent wise it took me a while to get my head around but it reminds me of the smell of lemon peel crossed with lemongrass, it's not overpowering and I found it quite pleasant.
Ingredient wise it is packed full of oils and goodness (chia, coconut and avocado), which i'm sure must be good for you as they're all delicious.
Application - the instructions are to get fingernail sized bit and 'smoosh' it all over your face. Since I typically use coconut oil to remove makeup this was quite familiar.
I found it smooth and silky, the only time this changed at all was when i tried it on a damp face in the shower and it ended up feeling more 'sticky' in that it turned a creamy colour and became more solid so had more resistance to move it on my skin.
It doesn't melt in quite the same way as coconut oil but it smoothes on very nicely and a little goes a long way. It comes off easily with a warm damp cloth.
Findings: Well... Ive had a pretty hectic week in terms of different events like work, a date, and a dance festival including a themed party so i've used this on lots of different products. It easily removes my natio liquid foundation, thin lizzy mineral powder, and moisture mist beauty cake.
It also worked well on my eyeshadow and had no issues with my MAC paintpot eyeshadow which doesn't wipe off to touch once it's set.
Face paint comes off like a dream, as does glitter gel too. The one thing I found it had issues with is eyelash glue +/- with glitter stuck to it. In this case i physically had to pick it off with my fingernails (I had lots of glitter dots on my face, neck and arm from being painted like a leopard) but I won't really hold this against it.
Overall I enjoy using this product, and definitely see myself using it regularly. 4/5 due to the eyelash glue but I wouldn't expect this to be a major issue for me on a weekly basis. It easily left me with skin that felt hydrated, rather than that tight feeling from using a clenser. I prefer this feeling as get fairly dry cheeks, nose and forehead. Basically my skin feels pampered after I use it and to be honest - it makes me want to keep stroking my cheeks because of how soft they are!
Tips: I had a bit of a search online and someone recommended applying the balm directly to your warm damp cloth and holding over your eyes for a period before removing, rather than rubbing to remove mascara etc, however either is fine. Definitely apply to dry skin rather than wet.
