A bit too oily on the lips

Recently I realised I’m pretty picky when it comes to lip balm. I’ve been this way for years but only just realised how picky I am after my son was first born. You see, I started making my own lip balm a few years ago so I could have the PERFECT balm but being on my last tube with a newborn kind of meant buying lipbalms again until I had time to make a batch. That’s how I ended up with a tube of vanilla Hurraw. First off, I absolutely love the packaging. The tube is this cool oval shape that covers my lips perfectly without needing to whittle a normal round tube down to an angled point over applications. I am definitely going to be reusing this! The ingredients list is another plus for me, it seems pretty natural with each ingredient being pronounceable. Application is smooth, the vanilla scent is there but subtle enough to not be overpowering while wearing and while it feels reasonably moisturising, it feels a bit oily on the lips and I don’t feel it keeps the moisture locked in for very long so I’m constantly reapplying it which means the tube won’t last as long. I’d repurchase this again in a pinch, that’s mostly down to it being okayish and knowing I’d happily reuse the empty tube.

Underwhelmed

All across the internet I have been witness to people gushing over how amazing this product is, from famous youtubers to women in our very own BR community. I made an executive decision that if I ever came across these balms I'd buy them - and I found some. I bought one off of shelivescrueltyfree.com and the other off of iHerb.

I think the thing that makes this product so great is the fact that it is all organic and vegan. But, in saying that, I think that's exactly why I don't like it. I am used to lip balms having things like beeswax and other animal products in it, and as this one doesn't, I find it weird and unsettling on my lips.

I have this balm in coconut and vanilla. Coconut was the one that arrived first, and when I opened it I got a massive smack in the face of coconut. They smell like the coconut macaroons that Griffins make! Delicious. I swiped it on my lips a few times - I don't like the texture. Yes, it's smooth, but I guess I was expecting something creamy. Instead it feels like I've put the balm through the wash and as I rub it on the water is coming out of the tube too. Not pleasant.

I haven't noticed anything fabulous with the staying power. I had a cup of tea and within 20 minutes I needed to reapply. Once it has worn off the lips, they feel even more dry than they were to start. I haven't noticed anything great about it being moisturizing either. The balm is very slippery and I find it gets in the back of my throat more than it stays on my lips.

Would I repurchase? No, probably not. I guess I just expected this to be so much more amazing than it actually is, and I'm a little disappointed.

Lemon Delicious

I kept seeing this everywhere so I thought what the hey I love a good lip balm and the fact that it is all natural/vegan even better so lets give this a whirl and conveniently popped one of these bad boys into a beauty bliss order  – I bought this in lemon because I love a fresh lemony scent.

Firstly the packaging - this is actually a little different to your average lip blam a more of a cylinder type shape than a round tube with a clear click on lid and little turn screw base at the bottom to move the lip balm up. I really liked the shape of this balm feels much nicer in my hand 

Now for the fragrance ! – I generally hate fragrances in all my beauty products I like everything to be as fragrance free as is possible however when it comes to lip balm for some reason this goes out the window and I love sweet and fresh smelling balms. This is a really lovely fresh lemon scent that reminds me more of lemon lollies than lemon cleaning products . Possibly my all time favourite fragrance to date.

Texture wise this lives up to its name its smooth its not sticky or glossy or too sweet or smelly and it does make your lips feel nice and soft glides on like a dream. It doesn’t dry your lips out or cause any irritiations.

I do find this doesn’t last as long as my HG balm - blistex and I did need to apply this more often than I would using my HG balm.

All in all for $7.00 which is a pretty average price in terms of balms I would buy this again but its not topped my favourite.

It's pretty good but...

After awhile I found that this lip balm was making my lips even dryer? Which is not really the point of a lip balm is it? However this lip balm did work and moisturise my lips quite nicely for awhile, I just wonder if it wasn't quite up to a Dunedin winter.

The one that I have is the coconut flavour. It is very strongly scented and flavoured, I would only recommend this one if you really like the smell of coconut as it can be smelt by another person when you are wearing it.

The tube is an unusual oval shape, with a lid that clicks on quite tightly which I like in a lipbalm as they usually just end up tossed into my handbag facing the risk of crushing/spillage.

Tips: The products are very strongly scented/flavoured so if you are a bit 'meh' when it comes to a certain flavour, i.e you think coconut's alright but not your favourite, don't go for the coconut one! It will drive you batty all day that you can smell it.

Hydrated lips

When I went to the Green Expo I picked up this lip balm. I had it on my wishlist for a while now. My lips become dry regularly. I try my best take care of my lips because I love liquid lipsticks and those are no good for dry lips.

I chose the flavour Papaya and Pineapple. I was going towards cherry but randomly chose this one. The shape of this lip balm is quite unique with this oval shape. The labelling on it is bright and eye catching. The formula of this is hydrating but not greasy like most lip balms . The flavour was very very mild pineapple. Even the scent of it wasn't that strong. I'm huge lover or fragrant scents. This was disappointing.

I find applying this to my lips so simple. It's lasts until I start eating and drinking . My results from using this was soft lips. The dryness went away. Hopefully I can try more scents, maybe I got a bad batch?

I paid about eight dollars for my balm. I don't mind paying that price for a vegan and organic product. I do wanna try more of these just to see if the scent and flavour is the same. If it is mild I probably wouldn't repurchase.

Don't understand the hype

I own this in the flavour/shade Black Cherry. The lip balm comes in a unique oval shaped wind up tube with a dark red cherry themed label. I like that this is a vegan product. I find the packaging shape is good in the sense that the lip balm doesn't get stuck; many lip balms I've owned in traditional packaging get stuck when wound up too much and then you can't close the product. However, I found the oval shape awkward for application as this needed to be used sideways to apply a good amount of product. For those with larger lips, I can imagine application of this would be even more awkward.

Black Cherry is a dark crimson red in the tube with a strong cherry lolly scent. I think the smell is AMAZING! The lip balm doesn't feel waxy or heavy, and is thin enough that you don't need to wait for it to soak in and you can go in and apply lipstick on top. There is no flavour to the lip balm (but no bad taste either) which is a shame. I really enjoy lip balms with a bit of flavour. This lip balm provides a hint of a red tint, so it looks nice and pretty when worn alone as it adds a flush of colour to the lips.

In terms of what a lip balm is supposed to do i.e. hydrate the lips I found this lacking. It didn't do anything horrible to my lips or dry them out, but I only really found this hydrating when I first applied it, it just didn't feel like it nourished or hydrated my lips and I felt like I needed to re-apply this often. I'm not sure why this product is so highly rated and popular, I think it smells nice, is cheap, and an ethical purchase but it just doesn't seem to hydrate well at all? I've found plenty of other natural lip balms that hydrate well for a similar price, so I'm not sure why this one just doesn't seem to work. Overall, this a cute nice smelling product, especially to use as a lip tint, but it's not super hydrating and I wouldn't go out and purchase this again. It's not horrible and its pleasant to use, but I just don't think it does the job.

Great Name - Ok Product

I did really like the lip balms but definitely felt there are better products out there that are more moisturizing and have a more lasting effect at keeping my lips feeling hydrated. They do smell Devine and although they are the perfect pocket or wallet sized product, I did find I was always loosing it.

Hurraw lip balm review

Love this lip balm aswell, but feel like it wasn’t for me. I do still recommend to all of you but I think i would rather one of my other lip balms. I don’t know why i’m just not a fan of it! But you never know you may be.

Lip balm

I really wanted to love this lip balm as there was a lot of hype about them, but I felt like it wasnt hydrating enough for me and I prefer a thicker balm (papaw ointment is my go to). The scent was nice though. It is a nice lip balm but probably best to try to see if you like it

Hurraw balm

I was excited to get this balm after hearing rave reviews, I found it to be ok but nothing extraordinary. It did moisturise my lips but wasn't as long lasting as I'd like. I have 2, one is vanilla which isn't too strongly scented, the other is a peppermint and lemongrass, which smells quite natural. Overall I'm glad I tried them but probably won't repurchase.
