Negative reaction

First impression: It looks exactly like your typical Western sunscreen: white, a little thick, but still goopy. I don’t find the scent very pleasing, but it’s a very minor issue in the grand scheme of things. The first day I used it I was actually a little worried since in the past my skin doesn’t actually react well with SPF, but I was pleasantly surprised it didn’t. When rubbing it into my face it felt a little grainy, not like exfoliating beads, but very finely milled grains. I don’t know how or why or what ingredient causes the texture.

Review: I actually spoke too soon. That night after cleansing I had started noticing my skin felt a little rough, but the day after it was much worse. My skin had broken out into patches of little rough red dots which reminded me thoroughly of when I discovered I was allergic to niacinamide. This was the only new product I had introduced in my skincare routine so I had to discontinue use. It took over a week for the bumps to disappear which was quite disheartening.

Overall I was unable to do a full trial of this because my skin had reacted and I did not want to continue use just in case it worsened. For some, I sure this would've worked, but unfortunately me and SPF do not mix well I have come to realise.

Love and hate relationship

Wild fern Manuka honey moisturiser was part of skincare regime which was I got trial for it. Thank you beautyreviews. I have love and hate relationship for this moisturiser.

I adore this kind of packaging because it's so handy from my point of views. Moisturiser comes in upside down small tube so it very good and my personally favourite so I can throw in my bag, very handy during traveling.

Brand claims this is hydrating and protecting moisturiser I 100% agree with that. I have de hydrate, normal to combination skin type. Moisturiser has quite weight on it, I mean when I apply i can feel on skin. It is very thick, white and grainy type of cream. It is not smooth at all. I don't use daily because I feel like too heavy and does my pore looks large.

But still I liked it because (1) I can use when I wear matte foundation, give me super duper primer type of skin. (2) when I am going out and feel lazy to apply face moisturiser and spf (3) when I want dewy skin. Love it

Make sure you use tiny bit. Otherwise you feel so greasy. I am tan skin ( nc40/nc42 just reference) if I apply too much then gives me white cast. Do I repurchase ? Not sure

Tips: Apply tiny bit otherwise gives greasy feeling.

Seriously soothing

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this moisturiser. I love that it's SPF30, and it did wonders to calm the redness of my skin, but it's also not very nice smelling and incredibly sticky when you first apply it.

The packaging is nice enough, but fairly utilitarian - I would have liked something a bit more pretty like the face wash, or even the toner. That said, it was good and sturdy and survived travel with no leaks.

The scent isn't particularly nice, a fairly cloying, sticky sweet honey smell. But I don't like scents on my face at all, so it would probably be fine for those who don't mind.

It does seem to be incredibly soothing, though - I have a lot of red pigmentation on my face despite mostly being a yellow toned girl, so I usually use a light covering of concealer on lots of my face to even out the redness. While using this moisturiser, I found that the redness was reduced enough that I used about 1/3 less concealer compared to normal, so that was a definite bonus.

It is really, really sticky when you first apply it - applying it was incredibly smeary and took a little bit of gentle elbow grease, and then once it was worked into the skin it felt heavy, greasy, and so very sticky. At first I was tempted to just wash it off and never use it again, but I let it sit for a bit and fortunately it does settle in beautifully. It was nicely nourishing and I didn't find that my skin would get greasy, although I am fairly dry skinned.

I'll continue using this, and if my skin is noticeably more red when I stop using it I'll probably rebuy it.

Tips: If you use the toner from this range before the moisturiser it can be even more sticky and smeary - if you have trouble massaging it into your skin, try patting it in instead.

Manuka Honey Protective Hydrating Moisturiser

It didn't rock my boat but as with the facial wash I think this was more of a personal preference.

The packaging is not overly attractive but very functional and sturdy and perfectly OK.

I found the formula quite thick and almost balmy but I was pleasantly surprised at how well it absorbed in to the skin. When I first applied it I found it heavy and thought 'oh no...' but it absorbed quickly for the most part. I will say I found it slightly tacky after applying. I felt I had to wait a while to apply makeup but after I did my makeup held really well.

The scent is quite pleasant and not overly strong at all, its more subtle than the other products.

I gave the SPF30 a hard trial in 30 degree Central Otago full sun, it held up well! I spent full days out boating and would apply this in the morning and then again after swimming and suffered no burn.

So for me it was mainly the texture that put me off, I like a really light moisturiser but if you like something heavier you would probably really enjoy this - especially for the price!

Tips: Use sparingly!

High sunscreen rating but not for dry skin

With an SPF30 rating, natural ingredients and a good portable tube package, this may be a very good summer moisturiser. It is slightly thicker than some moisturisers, almost more like sunscreen in consistency, but it applies smoothly and sits well under make up. A small amount will cover the face and neck meaning the 75ml tube will last well. This makes it good value and the packaging, while not fancy is ideal for travelling.

While not as bad as the cleanser from this range, the scent of honey and orange may be too strong for some people. Also this is not a very emollient moisturiser and never provided enough moisture to stop my dry/sensitive skin feeling tight.

This was a product I wanted to love as it would make a perfect swim bag standby with the sunscreen and packaging but it just didn't work for my skin

Tips: A great swim/picnic bag addition if you don't have dry skin. Sits well under make up so can also be used as an every day moisturiser

Grainy and greasy

This is a thick, white cream that claims to have SPF 30. It has a strong perfumey honey scent. I disliked this product as it had a very strange gritty texture. I could not see any grains but it felt like very finely ground sand and felt like one of those "microdermabrasion" cream exfoliants. Unpleasant to apply and made my skin a little sore in the sensitive areas around my mouth and nose, makes my neck red from the friction. This cream also has an oily feeling and never fully absorbs, however it doesn't look oily on the skin. Very strange product! Also, be aware that if your face gets wet the cream will form white drips down your face... Will not continue using due to sheer discomfort and will not repurchase.

Tips: Not recommended for sensitive skin.

Best of the range

This moisturizer did what it says it does. It had a lovely consistency and the fact that its SPF 30 is a great bonus. What I didn't like about this product is that it felt like it was grainy, almost like an exfoliating cleanser. I'm not sure if I received a dud product or what but the little bits did go away eventually.

Once on, the product did a pretty good job of keeping my face hydrated, but I'm not sure I'd purchase again as I feel there may be better value for money products out there.

soft on the skin

This is a great moisturiser that is not too heavy on the skin but also makes it feel very moisturised. I like that it is spa 30 therefore do not need to worry about applying sun screen to my face whenever I go outside. The texture of this product is a little bit strange, it is grainy a bit like sand however is still overall a good product and would use it again.

Wild Ferns Manuka Honey Moisturiser

Love the packaging on this product, such a cute wee tube and easy to use design. i loved that it had SPF in it but also found that it felt like i was applying straight sunscreen to my face, and left it white. It takes quite a while to soak into the skin and is super thick. Aside from that, it leaves the skin feeling super soft once it is soaked it and i am continuing to use this daily - not my new holy grail but it is great for days where i will be getting a bit of sun exposure

Tips: You only need the tiniest amount and even then it still leaves your face white

A bit different...

I received this moisturiser as part of a trial team, thanks BR, and was keen to get them as I'd only seen them in souvenir shops. I hadn't ever really considered actually using them due to them not being in normal stores so was keen to give the product a go.

The product comes in a yellow tube with a white cap. It's quite a thick texture, probably due to the SPF content. When I was using it I found that it left my face a wee bit white and took a while to soak in so make sure you don't use too much.

What really got me with this moisturiser was that it felt grainy, like there were bits of sand in it. It felt more like an exfoliator than a moisturiser!. Eventually you don't notice the bumps and they disappear/disintegrate but it was such a weird feeling. I feel like moisturiser is a treat for your skin after a long, sometimes rough and harsh cleaning process but this wasn't relaxing at all!

Despite the strange grainy texture of the moisturiser it actually did a good job of hydrating my skin and leaving it feeling fresh.

I have one other small issue with the product and that's the smell, it's too strong for me.

All in all a good product that does a good job but will not be using again due to grainy texture! I was quite pleased to go back to my goodness moisturisers after trialing this, it just felt so much better!
