It is what they say

I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up this in the last vault opening and am thrilled. To start with the packaging is very up market and attractive. When opening it there is a very light fragrance which can only be described as 'clean and fresh' but the fragrance does not linger and is very faint so would not clash with that of a moisturiser or perfume. The gel is very, very fine and silky and spreads evenly without leaving any stickiness and dries very quickly. I then applied my moisturiser and make up. I can't say I noticed a difference on the day but after about 10 days the difference is very noticeable. My skin is not nearly as dry as it used to be and I have taken to applying a little on my knees and elbows where the skin is generally a lot drier (they should sell it by the bucketful). Jokes aside, I am extremely impressed because not only does it do what they say it does, but it has the same effect, if not more noticeable than a serum. I leaves your skin feeling very soft and looking refreshed and after a while looking almost younger! I am absolutely 'hooked' on this product and definitely classify it as a must in the daily routine particularly if your skin tends to be dry or 'flaky'. One of the few products I would actually classify as 10 out of 10 - they have nailed it!!

Tips: Apply after cleansing and wait a few minutes before moisturising for the best effect. (Can be used morning and night).

Has good points and bad points

I've been wanting to try this for a while, it gets such great reviews. I've been after a good moisturiser because of this acne cream I'm on - I can only use a moisturiser during the day under my make-up, so I need a really good one to try and help with dry patches that have come up from the medication.

There are a lot of things I really like about this gel. It smells really nice, a mild baby-powder-ish smell, not over powering at all.

It looks really soothing and pretty in the jar and the jar is awesome - it's a solid, plastic pot that you can easily get the get out of and won't break if you drop it.

One of the big points for me was that it doesn't leave a tacky feeling like you'd expect from a gel. All my experiences with gel have been that it's sticky and tacky once applied, but this absorbs really, really well.

You can feel that it's worked after you apply it - I know a lot of moisturisers you don't really feel a difference, with this I can tell what areas I've applied the gel to and which ones I haven't - not because I can feel the moisturiser but because I can feel how soft my skin is.

Overall, this is a great product. The only downside for me is that it isn't as moisturising as what I need - it hasn't really done much for helping with the dry patches. That being said, it isn't really advertised as being for very dry skin, so it's possible my expectations are a bit unreasonable. It does work very nicely on regular skin and it sits underneath make-up like a dream!

Perfect under makeup

When this first came out I was super excited because it was a gel formula and reminded me of Clinique's moisturizing gel. I used to use the clinique one before life got more expensive and I could not justify the cost.

At $30 a pot ( or $15 if you wait for it to come on special) it's a good alternative. The gel formula soaks in really quickly and makes a really good base for my make up. Also you can sweat through it rather than sweating it off ( Dance teacher problems).

I did not notice a huge difference to how moisturized my face was but then I do not have very dry skin as i'm more of a combination.

A friend of mine who has very very dry skin and was struggling to find something to get it under control used this after I recommended it and had excellent results. She has continued to use it and the nigth cream and no longer has any problems.

A pot of this lasts me a few months and it's easy to get as all supermarkets stock it. I will continue to use this product.

Like it but like the gel cream better

Purely because of the fragrance, I wouldn’t buy this one again. It smells good but I have sensitive skin and if your barrier is compromised it will probably burn and irritate your skin like it did mine.

Otherwise it is non comedogenic and great for oily combination skin, as is the gel cream too!

Tips: Try the fragrance free gel cream if you react to it. I think they’re equally moisturising.

Superb for dry skin!

I have trialled this product for 10 days as part of the Hydro Boost skin care range. This comes in beautiful heavy translucent jar which looks and feels luxurious and expensive though I hope that it is recyclable as I feel the packaging is quite bulky and could be wasteful if recycling is not an option. This is a great product similar to high end versions of hydrating gels which are designed to be complement a skincare routine when skin is in need of extra attention. This wonderful gel-crème is a smooth translucent pale blue formula with a light perfume which smells aquatic and reflects the blue/cooling theme of the product. Very soothing and therapeutic to apply it smells and feels wonderful but the scent may not be great for those who are sensitive to fragrance. Sinks in rapidly and leaves the skin feeling like velvet. The box states 'doubles skins moisture in 1 hour' but I feel it does this within seconds of applying. I personally use this/prefer it over the Night concentrate in this range and have been using it as a night treatment, but have also used it as a hydrating mask before applying the day gel, and I find it super soothing under the eyes. A little bit under makeup also works a treat to smooth out any dry patches. I really feel this is value for money as you can use it for many purposes. I wake up with super smooth, grease-free skin which is perfect for warmer weather and I can see this as being a great refreshing summer alternative to my traditional heavier night creams

Tips: Great multi-purpose hydrating gel - could be irritating to those sensitive to perfumes though I have relatively sensitive skin and am fine with it.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

I love hydrating and gel formula moisturisers as my skin can get dehydrated, so was looking forward to trying Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel.

For reference, my skin type is fairly normal though it can be combination at times - and I would always rather err on the side of dewiness rather than matte, so hydration is something I look for in moisturisers. I typically do use a gel formula moisturiser or serum layered underneath something thicker or an oil (the specific products vary a lot, but for example I often use Antipodes Joyous serum with argan oil layered on top).

During my trial of Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel I used it twice daily for approximately two week. I didn’t use any other moisturisers but did still use a sunscreen in the mornings.

The immediate effects of HBWG are fairly pleasant (provided you don’t mind the scent, as it’s fairly strong for a skincare product) - it’s quite cooling, refreshing and does visibly reduce dryness when applied. However I didn’t find that it kept my skin moisturised throughout the day the way that my usual serums and moisturisers do, and this is more of a priority than the immediate effects for me.

Overall after a couple of weeks of use my skin actually seems a bit drier than with my usual routine, but perhaps this is a good option for people with oilier skin or who prefer very light moisturising products. For me HBWG was okay, but probably doesn't quite live up to its claims and I wouldn't use it again as I already have other products that work better for my skin.

Tips: It has no sunscreen, so put some over top for daytime! As the moisturiser isn't very bulky itself it's actually not too bad to have to layer with a separate sunscreen. Always wear sunscreen :)

Great review! Have to say that I was hoping there would be more positive reviews but might not get it now as I do have dry skin and it appears to not be suitable for dry skin :(

Oasis of Blue

The packaging of this moisturizer is really appealing. It's fresh, blue, even luxurious to feel. I tend to have dry and dehydrated skin and wasn't sure if gel moisturizers are for me. But one thing's for sure. I'm impressed by how it held up. The water gel is easily absorbed. You'll instantly feel the hydration. As for the claims, I think that is overrated. I had to reapply after a few hours in order for my skin to stay hydrated. I'd suggest this to normal to oily skin types as it is lightweight. Drier types will need to go somewhere else. Overall, I think it's a good moisturizer, but it's just not for me.

Definitely a Wrinkle Slurper

I purchased this product after it was first reviewed on Beauty Review by a few Super Hero members. I was very intrigued by the claims of the hyaluronic acid holding the moisture in and keeping the skin super hydrated and thought it might just be what my deeper wrinkles needed - a water plumper wrinkle disguiser.

Initially finding this product in the Supermarket was hard, although it is now readily available and found in many stores that carry beauty and skincare items. So I tracked down this particular product of the range first based on the initial BR reviews. It comes packaged very smartly and does indeed seem much more high end than the price suggests. I was able to purchase it on special for $22.95, RRP is $29.95 at Countdown. The jar of product is a pleasing marine blue with a light metallic blue lid. The gel inside is a light marine blue with a fresh shower water scent reminiscent of that clean soapy water smell. Application of the gel is interesting - the gel is really cold, a little is all that is needed and it spreads very easily. The gel is rapidly absorbed and leaves my skin refreshed, very soft and smooth and definitely feeling plumped up.

I have mature skin with some deeper wrinkles, slight creping and some finer lines. The gel certainly minimises all these defects and the effect is quite noticeable to me. After I had been using the Hydro Boost gel for two weeks, my daughter and another friend remarked that I was looking more relaxed and refreshed. In fact the daughter asked me if I had botoxed my frown lines as I keep saying that I'm going to do one day.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost is the moisturiser I use first thing upon arising - it wakes me up, and plumps up my skin ready for the day. I love that it has a delicate pleasant scent, can be applied even to the eye area without any sensitivity whatsoever and leaves my skin soft and silky but without any leftover residue too. The best thing is that this cheapish gel does more for my wrinkles than any $100 plus serum has ever done and it is now in my bathroom cabinet for good.

I'm onto my second jar and have branched out to the rest if the range, although this particular gel is hands down the star of the whole range.

Tips: The Hydro Boost is best applied at least 20 minutes before applying foundation or other makeup products especially water based makeup products with sponges. It can also be dabbed on over makeup for a quick pick me up plump in the afternoon without it affecting my makeup.
