Anyone who's aware of retinol as a skincare ingredient has likely heard that it can take a lot for your skin to build up a tolerance to it. If it's not used with caution it can be harsh, causing dry, cracked skin that can put you off this extremely effective ingredient!
The good news is, Olay's Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Moisturiser gives you all of the best parts of a retinol product, and none of the bad. My skin took to it like a duck to water, no adjustment period needed, and only smooth, clear skin after three weeks' of use.
As well as the lack of irritation for my skin (disclaimer: I have used prescription-strength retinol and my skin definitely has a tolerance- the label still warns of potential mild skin irritation), I also liked that this moisturiser is fragrance-free, absorbs quickly, and is nice and thick. I found it very straightforward to switch out my existing evening product for this one and like the weighty purple jar it's packaged in.
In three week's of consistent use I noticed that my skin didn't break out, it looks a little smoother, and it looks hydrated. What I didn't notice though, was any difference in pigmentation, dark spots, or an obvious reduction in fine lines. Perhaps with continued use these might become apparent?
The one thing I'd change about the product as a whole is the lid under the jar top which keeps quite a tight seal on the moisturiser and can be challenging to remove. Just one of those little things that stops you completely loving something! Or it might just be me...
I would heartily recommend this product to someone in their 20's and upwards who's keen to experiment with retinols. But be patient, results can take awhile to show up!
I was excited to try this as I am in my 30's now and have begun an anti-ageing skincare routine. I have already been using a Retinol serum for over a year so I already had a tolerance and could dive right into using this night cream.
I kept the rest of my skincare super simple while trialing this so I could really gauge its effectiveness. I stopped using my Retinol serum and just paired this with a simple cleanser in the evening to avoid any irritations.
This product comes in really nice packaging. A purple tub with a silver lid. While I don't think its glass (more of a thick plastic), its very sturdy so wont break when travelling.
As a dry skin gal, I usually go for a super rich, heavy night cream that leaves my skin feeling wet. The finish with this cream is different, unlike any I've used. It dries down really quick and leaves an almost powdery finish on the skin. It still feels very hydrating and my skin doesn't feel tight in the morning.
I've been using this cream now for just shy of three weeks and have noticed a reduction in my problem areas (smile lines around the mouth and under my eyes). My skin also has a noticeable increase in smoothness. I will keep using this until it is finished and provide any updates.
Tips: Retinol can make your skin sensitive to the sun so only use it in the evening, and make sure you wear an SPF daily.
