I went into trying this product with high hopes that it would become my new go to fake tan however sadly it hasn't meet that expectation. Things I did like about the tanner are; I always appreciate a colour guard to ensure I can see where I've applied product and it has enough colour that you could go out start away and feel like you have some tan. It dried completely in about 10mins and didn't transfer onto my clothes or sheets. It was lightly scented and didn't have that tell tell fake tan smell. And went on so smoothly and left my skin feeling hydrated. It also kept it feeling hydrated for several days after application which other tanners often dry out my skin. And lastly I love that it isn't tested on animals, is vegan and clean. The two major things that let down this product for me were; the colour- unfortunately it's too orange for my liking. It definitely looks like fake tan rather than a natural colour. I prefer a more olive tone. If they changed this would be a big game changer. And secondly, even after following the instructions and exfoliating and moisturising the knees, ankles and wrists the colour still clung to those area and became over saturated. It even happened in areas it hasn't done that in before. I'm a seasoned tanner now so can avoid that with most other tanners.

Tips: Use it VERY sparingly on dry areas. Even what is left over on your mitt will be too much.
SugarBaby Tan of the Hour is a really luxurious product to use! Overall it goes on easily and quickly and doesn't get patchy or weird once it starts to wear off. I do think that the formula could have been darker because I'm fairly pale and after using it, I didn't get the deep tan I was expecting, more of a bronzed glow - which is totally fine, but I was expecting it to be darker considering it says it's ultra dark. The bottle itself is a bit difficult to use because it takes a bit to squeeze it out of the small hole at the bottom, and I do worry it's going to get clogged over time. The texture of the product is amazing though! I squeezed it onto a mitt (always use a mitt with tanning products by the way!) and it was quite dark when it came out and was similar to a body lotion. Because of that, I was worried about how well it would rub in but it was fantastic! Really easy to apply and spreads very well. The scent of it was a bit weird, but it's not like other tanning products where you smell very obviously like you've tanned until you wash it off, the scent goes away pretty quick. Using this product with the SugarBaby The Back Up Deluxe Back and Body Mitt was amazing and made applying it to my back super easy. Overall, I loved the consistency and the fact that it aged well, but I would have liked a better bottle and a darker tan.
Tips: - Always use a mitt so you get a better application - If you want a deeper tan, do a couple of layers or use more product
Firstly i have to say i am a newbie to self tanning lotions, i usually bathe on the sun but i shouldn't do this so trying to get into self tan. As not having many to compare to i found this one to be pretty good. I exfoliated the day before and then applied the next day. It smelt really nice, like i was in the islands. I didn't have a mitt so i applied with my hands, started at the top and worked my way down, i applied quite lightly though as i wasn't sure and didn't want to be dark dark. It went on nicely i thought. I left on for only 3hours and then had a shower. It gave me a nice glowing tan. I don't think it looks like a real tan from the sun though, in my opinion it looks a bit fake. But it's hydrating and overall much better for your skin. I would penalty purchase again because of how nice it smelt and the moisturizing benefits. Overall a pretty nice product.
Tips: You need a mitt. It would apply much nicer and evenly. Go easy around your knees and elbows, not too heavy. Maybe next time I'll leave it on for the 4hours.
I was lucky to receive Tan of the hour to trial - this is my first ever Sugar Baby product and it did not disappoint. The tan packaging is eye catching with a pop of bronze foil and hot pink. It was also appealing to read the tag line “clean + kind + vegan”.
When applying my tan I noticed the formula was a thick cream texture and dark cocoa in colour. It was quick and easy to apply with a mitt, this does glide onto the skin silky smooth and leaves your skin brown to show any bits you may have missed. It also smelt divine, the scent of tropical coconuts.
I applied to my entire body from the neck down, smelling and looking like a brown tropical goddess. I used the Sugar Baby back & body applicator “The Back Up” to apply tan to my back but it was a struggle to apply evenly so I returned to my trusty mitt.
It did dry quickly and was not sticky, so after waiting 4 hours and washing off I hoped for the best after watching all my hard work wash down the drain. Directly afterwards I was slightly brown but not ultra dark as I had hoped, perhaps 5 hours or overnight may have the desired effect - although the next day I was nice and golden so it may take longer to develop than first thought.
Overall a very nice and natural tan, left my skin soft and I was very impressed at the shade (not orange) and the lack of streaks and patches! Will definitely use again and leave on for a bit longer.
Pros: As above the scent, texture, easy application, end result Cons: Needs to be left on longer than 4 hours for dark tan (I was a little disappointed that it had to be left on for 3-4 hours, the title “tan of the hour” did make me think it was going to be a quick tan solution)
Tips: Use moisturizer on your hands, knees, elbows and ankles before you apply the tan so they will be lighter than the rest of your body and blend in! The dry areas always hold the color
Always use a mitt to apply - no more brown hands! And a lovely even application.
I found the back applicator tricky to use across my back as I am very short (=little arms) but perhaps taller people would like it!
Probably a bit to dark for my liking so go easy on the application. But overall it did what it said, gave an even tan. The smell wasn't to over powering like some tans on the market. I quite like it. I'd use again.
Tips: Exfoliate first! Remember the ankles, knees, elbows and wrists. Wash the palm of your hands if accidentally get it on there. Use the provided mit. Don't over do your first application. See how the colour develops first and add more if wanting a deeper tan.
I was apprehensive to try this product but so glad I did! The darkness of the cream scared me a bit as I’m very pale! Hint - after exfoliating I gently moisturised my elbows, wrists, knees and ankles and then applied the tan. I left on for 2 hours as I’m very pale and wanted more of a soft golden look for spring! This was the perfect amount of time and it came out looking great and streak free with no blotchiness! I think in summer I would leave on for 3.5 hours for a darker look. It has a lovely hint of coconut and applies smoothly and evenly. I noticed that day 2 and 3 it had developed further which I actually really liked. I will definitely be using this through summer and recommend to friends! Love it!
Tips: Moisturise areas where tan can catch before use.
Plenty of pros for me from this product. The cream is just thick enough that it won’t run everywhere but thin enough that it spreads nice and easy. It has a nice light coconut smell without screaming ’self tan’. Love the fact that it goes on pretty much exactly same colour that it develops to. No nasty surprises turning out too dark. No rub off on sheets or clothing once it’s dry! Huge bonus. Nice not having the big ranga patch on the white sheets in the morning. The colour gradually fades over about 5 days so that’s a pretty good life span I’d say. The applicator makes back application actually possible! I’d never tried one before. I found you need to do some weird contortions to get it all rubbed in even but it’s a heck of a lot better than hugging yourself to spread it around lol It’s nice and hydrating compared to a lot of tanners I’ve used which is a plus on 50 year old skin Easy to use squeezy bottle with a flip lid that’s easy to close with one hand. Product definitely does what it claims to do. My only negative comment would be that it’s slightly more orange than what I’d like but I think because it’s so easy to use and long lasting I’d probably stick with it anyway. It’s a big thumbs up from me. I’d recommend both products
Tips: Make sure it’s nice and even or it leaves streaks where it’s not rubbed in properly. As I discovered when I did a rush job on the belly
Will definitely purchase this again. Love the scent of coconut summer. Not overpowering, just the right amount. Lotion is not thick but not runny - if you know what I mean! Glides on the skin nicely. I used a body applicator to apply. Was great for the back but prefer a mit for legs and arms. Found it a bit awkward. From Sugarbaby. I ended up just using my hands for my legs. No streaks anywhere. Did not catch on dry skin. I probably let it dry for 15-20 mins, was not sticky and did not mark my cloths. Did not make me stink! Major bonus points for that. The end colour was not too dark. Nice colour, not orange. I feel bronzed but not obvious it's a fake tan.
Tips: The lid does get a but messy as the lotion is dark. Put on a towel or something.
I was surprised by the beautiful coconut, vanilla scent of this product, as most tans say they have a coconut scent or no bad smell, but I can always smell that tanning product smell. Not with this one though! It smells so good. It was easy to apply, though I wish I’d got a mitt instead of trying to use the back applicator for my whole body. It’s great to be able to see where I’m applying it due to the instant bronzing effect. I was worried it was going to be too dark given the way it is described on the bottle and the colour of the product before application, but if anything, it could be darker. This may be due to my hesitancy in applying it and worrying it would go too dark, so next time I will apply more and see if it’s darker. But it gave a beautiful golden, natural looking tan that has lasted several days with no flaking and no patchiness. 100% recommend, and my only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that it wasn’t as dark as it said, but that may be due to my application, and also I prefer it a bit lighter as it’s much more natural.
Tips: Work in circular motion until blended using a tanning mitt for best results.
I recently had the opportunity to try out the SugarBaby Tan of the Hour self-tanning product, and I'd like to share my thoughts and experiences with you. As a regular user of self-tanning products, I was eager to see how this one compared to my usual go-to, Bondi Sands Ultra Dark.
First and foremost, the scent of SugarBaby Tan of the Hour pleasantly surprised me. It had a nice, mild fragrance that didn't overwhelm my senses. Unlike some self-tanners, this one didn't leave me smelling like I'd just emerged from a chemical factory, and for that, it earns some extra points.
I was pleased to find that SugarBaby Tan of the Hour left a natural-looking tan tone that didn't veer into the dreaded "orange" territory.
However, I must admit that I had higher expectations in terms of the depth of the tan. Given that I typically use Bondi Sands Ultra Dark, I found SugarBaby's Tan of the Hour to be slightly lighter in comparison. While it did provide a nice, subtle tan, it wasn't as dark as I had hoped for.
In terms of the texture and feel, the product was fairly hydrating, which is always a plus. However, I did notice that it felt a bit sticky on my skin after application. While this stickiness did subside somewhat as the product dried, it was still a noticeable drawback for me. I know this is normal for cream based products, but I just don't enjoy the feeling.
Overall, I am content with the results I achieved with SugarBaby Tan of the Hour. However, if I were to weigh the pros and cons, I'd have to say that I probably wouldn't repurchase this product. My personal preference leans towards Bondi Sands Ultra Dark foam, primarily because it delivers a deeper color and dries faster, without the lingering stickiness.
In conclusion, SugarBaby Tan of the Hour does have its merits, such as a pleasant, mild scent and a natural-looking tan tone. However, it falls short of my expectations in terms of color depth and I don't like the sticky feeling. Ultimately, the choice of self-tanning product may come down to personal preferences, and while I'm happy enough with the results, I'll likely stick with my tried-and-true Bondi Sands Ultra Dark for now.
Tips: Use an applicating mitt for a more even, less streaky application.
Exfoliate and moisturize regularly to keep skin smooth and hydrated to avoid a patchy tan.
