Ultimate mascara - worth every cent!

I never thought that I would one day replace my dear Rimmel mascara that I have repurchased over and over again for the past 6 years but Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara deserves that top spot now. It curls and separates my lashes, gives them volume and (what appears to me) extended length. What I love the most is the product makes my lashes look full and dramatic with very little effort required.

Even though I’m not a fan of pink the packaging is cute and simple. At first I was a little sceptical at the sheer size of the hour-glass shaped wand as well as just how much product was on it when I pulled it out. I didn’t think I would be able to achieve much, other than a big mess all over my lids but I cannot express just how amazed I am with this product.

When I apply my layers I do get some spots of mascara on my lids but that’s mainly because of how much it extends my lashes that it hits my lids so I can’t really complain about that. I’ve had no negative reactions to the product and no issues with flaking or any smudging throughout the day. In terms of removal it comes off very easily when I use my holy grail eye makeup remover (Neutrogena). I’m not too sure I could say the same if I use a makeup wipe or any other eye makeup remover.

I’ve had so many compliments on my lashes I can’t believe it and I didn’t even need to invest in a lengthening serum! I bought mine from the Too Faced website and sent it to my Shipito address. The price largely depends on the currency exchange going at the time of purchase and mine was approximately NZD$30 which to me is worth every cent because this is the only mascara that has finally ticked all the boxes.

My annoyance would have to lie with the accessibility to the product and that it’s only available overseas so unlike other popular mascara brands you can't just walk into a store and purchase it when you feel/want/need it.

Tips: I apply 2-3 layers and twirl the wand from base to tip. For more volume (and less clumps) I use a different mascara on top of it that has thin straight or slightly curve wand (i.e. Benefit Roller Lash).

Eeee this is getting me excited to use mine! The brush was scaring me a little so this is reassuring! I'm patiently waiting to use the mascaras that are in my current rotation first. Tick tock..

The Holy Grail of Mascara

Where to start. It lengthens. It volumises. It doesn't flake. I've never had a clump.

This is THE mascara for big, dramatic lashes. You don't need to wear false lashes with this mascara in your toolbox. I find three coats ideal if you're really wanting drama, or just one coat for a little definition. This isn't waterproof, but it isn't easy to get off either. It is a slightly wet formula, but not to the extreme of some Maybelline formulations.

Not sure that I'd believe the 1944% more volume claim on the box, but you certainly get a stunning look.

The brush is cute - its hourglass shaped and makes it really easy to get a nice application. The brush is also weighted, which makes handling the mascara feel really quite something else because it gives you more control.

Tips: Three coats and skip the false lashes!

Better than sex??

I jumped on the bandwagon once again! Everyone was talking about how amazing this mascara is so, what's a girl to do? Buy that mascara and try it for herself of course!!

I need a slap on the hand I hate to admit this, I have 5 opened mascaras on the go but a couple are destined for the bin after using this.

I love the pink cylinder packaging it comes in, it's like metal/aluminium and quite heavy. I unscrew the lid and out comes the wand and argh I'm feeling slightly daunted by the hourglass wand its unlike anything I've used before and I'm standing there looking at it, then looking at my eyelashes and thinking really??

So I carefully apply the first coat and ooooh my lashes look a little fuller and longer, second coat and wow impressive a good curl going on and third coat and Im thinking hey those aren't mine no way! Seriously? They are full with great length and just look amazing. I love this mascara so much because first of all no clumps and secondly it makes your eyelashes look completely natural like you were just genetically blessed with luscious lashes!

Also wearing 3 coats I thought I was bound to get flaking but yip you guessed it.. None, no flaking no rub off nothing! Yes it seriously is some kind of magic.

Then it got me thinking it stays on for hours and hours I bet it's going to take some scrubbing to remove it. But nope just my usual Clarins or Maybelline makeup remover and done (back to naked eye for me!) I love love love this and need back ups! Thank goodness for overseas shopping we have nowadays!

I feel sorry for the person who named this

Too faced better than Sex Mascara. This product has a lot of hype around it and I had heard so much about this product, both good and bad. However the majority of things I had heard about it were good and so I had to buy it because what sort of beauty addict would I be if I didn't.

It comes in a beautiful pink tube, which almost has a frosted pink metallic finish. The tube is cool to touch, and is quite heavy as well so it feels expensive which is nice because this mascara is not cheap costing around $20 USD dollars.

The mascara brush is really large, and is actually a bristle brush which I love because these are getting harder and harder to find (or maybe it is just me). The mascara brush is quite bulky which makes it awkward to get close to your eye, but still I had high hopes for this product.

The formula seemed nice at first; it is jet black which is perfect because that’s the only colour I wear. However, the formula is really wet, and I mean really wet which can work really well with some products, but it does not work well with this one.

Seriously, doing one coat of this mascara leaves my lashes clumpy and looking terrible. It does add length, and a bit of volume but the clumps are something I cannot look past. Seriously, I was so disappointed with this product, and put this review off for the longest time just in case I managed to love it. I have to say that now the formula has gotten a bit drier, I do like the mascara a little more, but certainly not enough to pay big dollars for it.

Amazing products !

This mascara can almost live up to its name hehe, I love the packaging, the champagne soft pink is really pretty, the brush is ideal for me, I love a full volume brush ! The consistency of the formula is amazing as it makes my lashes full and super black and I only need two small coats to get this effect!. I look like I have more eyelashes and that always makes my eyes pop ! It stays put and doesn't flake away. I generally love this product it has found its way into my daily makeup routine! I have no regrets purchasing this, toofaced keeps blowing me away with there amazing quality !

Better than (most) sex

Love the Two Faced Better Than Sex mascara! This is recommend highly by most the YouTube beauty babes I follow so naturally I HAD to have it. Slightly on the pricey side and hard to obtain in Nz but who doesn't love recieving packages? I got mine from beautybay in a big haul I did (sorry not sorry). Application can get slightly messy as the brush is quite big, but I just thoroughly cleaned my old mascara brush and use that now instead (maybelline falsies). Lengthening - TICK. Volumising - TICK. The formula itself is on point. Packaging to die for. Easy to correct messy mistakes. So close to a 5/5 but the brush lets it down if you're a 'quick applicator' kinda babe. Can tend to transfer too so use a good under eye setting powder!

Tips: Thoroughly clean your favourite mascara brush and use that instead. Double coat straight after each coat one eye at a time and do not go back. Use a good under eye setting powder as can tend to transfer.

Surprised as I expected more

Having purchased after reading the 5 lip reviews and others raving about it on blogs I have to admit I was a little disappointed.

Too Faced packaging is again flawless with this mascara, it is sexy cute in it's metal effect pink barrel with the letter all raised, embossed into the container. But that is where it stops impressing me, the second I opened the lid and pulled out the wand to apply onto my lashes I saw nothing about the wand to suggest it was any different to hundreds of others I have tried before.

Formula is the problem for me, it is true it is a very dark black which is wonderful, but the texture is rather thick and gloopy. After my usual application of zig zag and pull I looked in horror to find little balls, clumps! and then my lashes started to stick together. This was from one swipe! I grabbed a disposable wand and played with the lashes, teasing out the extra mascara and working it through but it never looked wow! Second attempt I brushed off about 99% of the mascara from the wand and dragged through my lashes, again almost instantly like static my lashes clumped together and again I spent ages working a disposable wand through to get them to behave. I was frustrated as I really wanted to love this mascara but it is just not meant to be with me. Perhaps it is a dodgy batch but I brought it from an official Too Faced stockist, perhaps it is my lash type. Who knows, all I know is that for me this now resides in the bin

Chelsea both are different, if you are looking for fuller va va voom volume lashes and can be bothered with the clumpy formula then Too Faced is the way, if you want length then Eye of Horus is the one =)

Ooh, I'm so undecided! I want to add this into my BeautyLish order because I've heard so many good things.. but I really trust your opinion. Have you compared it to the Eye of Horus mascara? I'm deciding between those two.

Better than... Sex!?!?

This mascara had been talked about everywhere, and I knew I had to get my hands on it. A beauty product that had the word sex in it!? And it may or may not be better than the deed itself... I was intrigued. I ordered from BeautyLish Boutiques and it arrived quite fast, despite the holidays going on in both countries at the time.

The tube is a soft metallic pink with the brand name in fancy italics and the name of the mascara, bold and in your face, in raised writing on the side. The writing is the same color as the tube, so it blends seamlessly, other than the fact it's raised. It's the only writing on the tube other than the sticker on the base. The lid twists off easily and as you pull the wand out of its cave you are greeted with a gorgeous brush.

The brush itself is supposed to be like a woman's curves, and I can see that, but it also just looks like a mascara wand. It's fat at the top and bottom and thinner in the middle. Definitely matches my body shape! The bristles are quite soft and they are thick with black mascara.

The formula of the mascara is, in my opinion, perfect. It's not dry so it doesn't drag your eyelid off your eye, and it's not so completely wet that just blinking makes it smoosh above and below the lashes. Although if you sneeze it will do just that, but as it dries fast it's easy to either pick off, of just use a makeup remover on a cotton bud.

My lashes become superstars when I use this. It's a term I never use, but this is my holy grail. It is the holiest of all grails. It's so easy to remove I could do it in my sleep and know I got it all off. It IS a clumpy mascara, and I thought I hated clumpy until I tried this. How wrong I was. So, is it better than sex? Well... I guess that depends on the sex ;-)

Not better than sex.

As much as I try to avoid hype, the many good things I had heard about this pushed me to buy a duo pack from Macy's when I was in LA a few weeks ago. The duo pack came with a travel and full size and this review is on the travel size.

Aside from the name (which I think is hilarious), the packaging is something I really like. It looks and feels luxe with a rose gold kind of tube. Both the travel and full size feel quite weighty and like they are made from metal as opposed to plastic.

The brush is the real star here - it's totally unique. It is difficult to describe and is probably best Googled, but it looks scary. It is rather spikey which is a bit confronting but it works its way between your lashes to ensure an even coat.

I find that this creates a lot of volume in my lashes as well as length, but it doesn't really hold a curl. Even if I curl my lashes prior to using it, this formula doesn't really hold my lashes up. I wish it would as curled lashes are something I look to achieve in a mascara, as opposed to length or volume. However, if these are things you do want in your mascara then this might be one you'll like.

The formula is super black and pigmented, has no scent and doesn't feel overly wet. It dries fairly quickly but it (sadly), flakes on me :( this is the only downfall of this mascara aside from it not holding a curl. Unfortunately the fact that it flakes means I won't purchase it again. I'm hoping it is just the travel sized one I have that flakes, and not the full sized - as I do really like this mascara! Idomakeup on here suggested I use it for my top lashes only but I have found that even using it just on those it is flaking.

Aside from that, it is easy to remove and it makes my lashes look thicker and longer. Given the flaking issue and the fact that it doesn't hold a curl in my lashes, I won't be paying what the rrp in NZ is.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

First of all....love the name of the product. Its catchy and actually wants to make you purchase the product just to see if it lives up to its name. Love the pink gold packaging as well. With so many options available on the market it is hard to decide on a favourite, but this product definitely rank somewhere in the top 10 on my list. This product also has one of the better applicator brushes I've seen. The product applies easily and covers really well. It gives your lashes extra length and fullness in just one application. Would definitely recommend.
