I was very fortunate to have been gifted this from one of my besties which she bought my Sephora while in the States. I received the shade Melted Ruby and it has to be one of the most gorgeous reds I have ever laid eyes on - a rich Christmas red the kind you would see on a beauty lip advert.
There's no denying the packaging is on point; with the shade of the box matching the shade of the tube but neither come close to the shade that's inside. The applicator is ummm quite different to what I would like personally. I'm not a fan of sponge tip applicators for hygienic reasons even if it's just me using it but having said that it feels good against the lips and even though there's no precision to the tip; I still manage to apply it well.
The pigmentation and opacity are incredible - the richness of this Ruby shade really comes through so if you're after "sheer" then keep looking. This is definitely for those who don't mind standing out with the brilliant shade. The longevity of the product is a little 'iffy' for me because the downside below.
Now the downside of this product for me is once applied it never really sets. For me this is not a product that I would hastily put on then rush out the door because there is risk of smearing, getting it on your teeth and bleeding.
I'm not sure how much time anyone has to wait for this to set but as an example 20 minutes is not long enough. I'd like to purchase some myself but so far I'm quite content with this one shade.
I purchased two of the Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipsticks after looking for a new, everyday shade and formula. These promised to be non-drying, pigmented and easy to apply, all packaged in a bright, girly tube. I purchased Peony and Nude. Peony wasn't the right pink for me, so I have only worn Nude.
Of course I have to mention the packaging. It’s gorgeous – girly, fun and fabulous whilst remaining sturdy and practical. I know many people don’t like the ‘unhygienic’ furry applicator, but I find that it provides an easy, accurate application. I don’t share my lip products and I don’t suffer from cold sores, so it doesn’t seem unhygienic for me. Compared to a standard lipstick or pencil product, this option does not deteriorate or loose its shape.
The formula is . . .fine. It is more drying than I expected, but I suppose the longevity of the product makes this necessary. When my lips are already a little dry, I can’t stand applying this product. It feels icky and really highlights the dryness of my lips. Although this product doesn’t immediately dry my lips out, I wouldn’t wear it two days in a row. Let that be a warning for those who struggle with dry lips. If my lips are in good condition this product is great. The pigmentation is high and it lasts a solid 4-5 hours. The shade does deepen on my lips after an hour. However the formula and shade isn’t anything special. It doesn’t make me feel fabulous, it does complete my makeup look, and it certainly doesn’t gather compliments from anyone in the street. It is fine, and I will use it, but I won’t be reaching for it on a special occasion or on a day where I need the confidence of Beyonce.
Final verdict: The packaging of this product is typical Too Faced – gorgeous and original. However the product inside is plain and drying. If there was a particular shade that you fell in love with – you may be able to combine it with a lip balm and be happy with the results, but I personally won’t be repurchasing.
Tips: Make sure you want this for more than just pretty packaging.
