I have used the device 4 times and I can already see a dramatic reduction in hair growth, about 60%. I can tell after the next 6 sessions I will have minimal if any hair growth. The device is so easy to use as you can hold the button and continuously glide which makes doing large areas like your legs relatively quick. It is a very simple design and makes it very easy to use.

Tips: Write it in your diary weekly so you can stay consistent and keep to your schedule to ensure maximal results.
I'm a regular at the waxing bar - I get my armpits and legs waxed about every 6 weeks. I've never really delved into other ways to remove hair, I'm not sure why, I guess waxing just did enough to keep me happy.
Until now! The IPL has been a revelation, I won't be returning to the waxing bar...maybe I should send them a Dear John letter. It's not you...it's just...I've found something better.
The Braun unit is easy to use and hold, and comes in a lovely zip up case. I like that they included a great quality razor too - covering all bases.
I found the process quick to pick up and get used to, there wasn't really a learning curve, other than to be methodical. I use the glide method and mainly stick to the larger head.
The growth of my leg hair slowed during week one, it was incredible. Ive been treating my legs weekly and I'm due to do them tomorrow - as I can only feel the most minor fuzz growing back.
Is it painful? Hmm, not really. You feel a bit of heat, but it's bearable - I've been using it on the highest settings for both legs and armpits.
When I consider negatives, the only one that really springs to mind is the cost - but as soon as you weigh up the initial outlay to the convenience, effectiveness, comfort and results you get, well, it blows waxing out of the water.
Firstly, thank you Beauty Review for choosing me to part of this awesome trial.
I just have to say WOW! This is an amazing machine, amazing. To start with it comes in a beautiful zipped case in white and gold, very classy. You unzip the case and inside there is a gorgeous machine that promises so much (or less hair), a precision head, power cable and a Venus Extra Smooth Swirl razor and a very informative instruction booklet.
The first thing I wanted to do was have a play with this device but I thought "safety first" and read the instructions.
It all seemed quite easy so I thought I would have a go.
I had a shower and shaved my legs and underarms in preperation for my journey to end my hairy legs and underarms. The device is easy to hold, it is shaped well for your hands. I am in awe as to how quick this is to use. I did one leg in about 5 minutes or so. Make sure when shaving not to miss any hairs, if you do miss one or two when you zap them it is a bit smelly, burning hair dosent smell that good. The process is not painful, I guess you could describe it as the old rubber band flick, probably not even that bad to be honest. I learned there are two ways to use this device. You can either glide or stamp. Gliding is basically continually flashing so you run up or down your leg in one go. Stamping is more precise as in doing one flash at a time, this is useful when doing small or awkward areas like underarms or bikini area. You may also like to use the smaller head attatchment for these areas. I repeated the treatment on my legs weekly and armpits fortnightly and I am super happy with the results. There are different power settings for different parts of your body, also if you want to be a bit more gentle. I used full power on my legs, and just low power for my underarms.
This machine is an absolute game changer in the home hair removal system, Braun have nailed it in my opinion.
I love the fact that this machine can be used by anybody. It can be shared by family members easily, without any health or hygiene concerns, so if you had actually bought it you would be getting great value for your money.
Tips: The flash is super bright so try not to look at it, if you cant help yourself, wear sunglasses
Beauty Review and Braun - THANK YOU.
The Braun IPL is beautifully presented and comes with a zip up storage bag that's patterned with a 1920s style pattern. The handset, booklet, cord and extra head fit perfectly.
The handset is light and very ergonomic to hold - even when you're zapping hard to reach areas. It feels of great quality and I felt confident using it.
I've been using this weekly on my legs and armpits. There are ten levels of zap, and 3 comfort settings. For my legs I use the highest, for my pits, the middle. It's not painful, its just a bit hot. And if you zap the same area twice in a row it is a bit uncomfortable, but nothing totally awful.
I found it easy to use in glide mode. The flash is quite bright, and despite mockage from my husband, I wear sunglasses while using it.
My hair growth has slowed dramatically since using this product. As it's my first time with IPL, and from what I've read, I'll need to do regular treatments more often to start, before needing to do it less and less. On week six, I've noticed great sparse patches of hair as well as hair that is very slow to grow. I've also found this is incredible for zapping away ingrown hairs.
The smaller headset is perfect for around the ankles and behind your knees, and for more precise pit-zapping.
I was surprised by how quick it is - I can do both legs and armpits in under 10 minutes!
I will continue for another month with weekly treatments and reassess but as it stands I am FLOORED by how good this is.
Tips: Wear sunglasses.

I have been using my Braun Silk-Expert Pro 5 over the past 5 weeks and have been really impressed with this product. I have had professional IPL done previously by a beauty therapist and this really closely matches the results I had so far.
The machine is really easy to use and I found it completely pain free (yay!). It is actually more comfortable than having it done professionally. The two attachments make it great for both large areas like legs which you can glide along, and smaller areas like underarms that you can spot treat.
The amount of hair growth has slowly decreased and I'm excited to continue using this product to achieve the results I want.
It came with a venus razor too which was a bonus to be able to prep the area.
Tips: For areas hard to see like underarms I would recommend standing in front of a mirror to make sure it's positioned correctly and then look away from the device while the light flashes.
Let me first start off by saying a massive thank you to the Beauty Review babes, I feel so appreciative for being one of the lucky ones to be chosen for this trial.
I love how sophisticated it looks, beautiful white and gold colours which comes in it's own stylish carry case.
At first it took me a little while to figure out the correct settings for my skin colour, but after reading the instruction manual, it was pretty plain sailing.
It feels quite heavy when you first pick it up but it's actually quite comfortable to use and really molds to your hands (that makes sense in my head lol).
As for results, I think I need to use this for longer as I have extremely thick and dark hair. I definitely have seen a difference with the hair not growing back as fast which is amazing. I did a test where I used it on one leg and underarm only so I could see the difference. It's definitely noticeable.
I can't wait to see the results after using it for a longer period of time.
Tips: Keep your eyes away from the light when you are zapping xx
I'm four weeks into these 'Smart IPL' treatments, which is the point where you're supposed to notice visible results. I can confirm- it works!
I've used the Braun Silk expert Pro 5 on several areas and in each of them, there is definitely a reduction in the hair growing back, and the growth rate is much slower. This has improved with each week gone by. I'm expecting to continue seeing a reduction as this first phase is supposed to last 4-12 weeks.
I've found the device very straightforward to use. My favourite feature is the 'SensoAdapt' which scans the area of skin and adjusts the energy levels to suit. This reassuring for an at-home device that used to be an in-salon only treatment! It helped me feel confident that something wasn't going to go wrong. I didn't find this treatment painful in the slightest and the comparison with a rubberband flick is quite accurate. It's over very quickly and is entirely bearable.
The two sizes of device were also helpful for being more precise with the targeted area. It was simple to switch between the two when necessary.
I can also attest to how effective this is on quite dark and coarse male hair. Between his eyebrows is showing really similar results, slow down hair growth, and less of it returning!
Overall, this is the sort of device I wish had been around at the start of my hair-removal journey, I love it that much. So many pros and the only area I could recommend for improvement is the length of the cord! Even then that might just be because of the arrangement of space at mine. I understand this is an expensive upfront cost but if you can stretch to it (or find a good sale!) I really recommend investing. Thanks, BeautyReview, I feel very lucky to have tried this out!
Tips: The key is in the preparation. Take the time for a really close shave, find an area with bright, natural light, and make sure the skin of the treatment area is free of any creams, moisturisers, sunscreens.
When I try out a product I always wait a few weeks to post feedback. I can confirm this product is amazing and really works. The instructions that came with the box were very helpful. I also popped onto youtube which is what I do with every product I receive as it gives you some extra tips. My hair is medium brown and I have darker hair on my legs compared to my arms. I found this product super fast to use. As I'm always rushing around during the week and on weekends the fact I can do both my legs in 5 minutes is perfect for me. I can do under my arms as well in a matter of minutes. It takes about six clicks of the device to cover the area.
The actual machine itself is white and gold. I know colour doesn't matter for how well it works but for me, I love the simple yet modern design. Inside the box, it also has a razor and a bag for the device to be kept safe after using it. I've done IPL before on my top lip and it cost me a lot of money to do. So find a device that wasn't expensive and that I can use at home is amazing. It also doesn't hurt so using the device is not at all painful.
Overall I think this is a great alternative to going to a clinic for expensive IPL treatment. I'm excited to try different areas out now with this product as I can see it working on my legs and arm pits so far.
Tips: Watch some Youtube videos if you're unsure or read the instructions.
Im definitely a sceptic when it comes to home hair removal I’ve wasted so much money on removal processes that don’t work or last. This has restored my faith!
In terms of price I’ve seen it come up on sale at farmers.. for around $600-800 on sale which is a great price vs years of blades, wax strips, professional waxing or other professional treatments. It’s been years since I’ve worked - and one income and kids means I have let myself go a little wild so I was the perfect hairy beast to try this on.
This I can do in the comfort of my own home - no travel, no beautician and no judgement.
It’s well packaged - one thing I wish it also had was a lint free cleaning cloth. It has a power pack with cord you plug it into to operate and two buttons to set intensity and control the actual operation of the ipl. That’s it, pretty simple. So very much plug in and go.
You have to be hairless to start.. with waxing I never liked the few mm of hair to work with.. Plus my skin always breaks out after a wax so it was not an option I wanted to do just before a holiday, Xmas, wedding etc.
It is bright but I found looking into a mirror while operating was the easiest on my eyes especially when doing my top lip. Intensity is tolerable it doesn’t hurt.. more like a warm feeling and sometimes a flicking against the skin.
Another thing I love about it - can treat multiple users so you could use this on your partner, friend etc. not like a razor you wouldn’t want to share.
Its surprisingly quick! Did my whole body in under 30 minutes.
In terms of results it’s been noticeable. It says you probably need about 12 weekly sessions for treatment and then just as needed but I definitely noticed significant results after 4 weeks I would say. And slight results after my 2nd treatment. I still have a few weeks to go treatment wise but overall I have noticed less hair in general it’s definitely worked on some patches really well. I’ve noticed less hair, finer hair, lighter hairs and bald patches where it has obviously worked extremely well. Time in between shaving is much less as the hair growth has slowed significantly. My legs hair growth has slowed and is lighter in colour with slowed times in between shaving and treatment. Very noticeable is the difference in my bikini line - after having a baby it was very unkept so was the prefect test patch of grass haha. It was similar to my underarms in needing a shave every 2 days but now it’s been a week and still very hairless.. along with this early on I noticed bald spots so the treatment has worked very well on some spots down there and has evened out through more treatments. I did a control on my arms as my test and yep where I used it once vs not using it at all it’s quite a difference. Old hair about half a cm and new is finer, lighter and shorter.
Tips: It’s been amazing and I can’t wait to have more free time and not have to buy shavers!!! Imagine not even packing one for a holiday eek!!! Thanks so much BR this has been amazing :)
I spent close to $3,000 a few years ago getting laser hair removal from a well established clinic. I had sessions every 8 weeks for a year and the pain was unbearable, but it did work and was the best investment Ive made.
Given the cost and the time invested in my last treatment I simply did not expect the Braun Silk Expert Pro 5 to be as effective as it was. So far it has won on cost, pain and effectiveness.
Its a third of the cost of my last treatment which was only for a few areas. With the Pro 5 I can use on all remaining areas and top up when/if necessary. Well worth the investment.
Pain - like I mentioned, my clinic treatment was unbearable. I was expecting the Pro 5 to be similar level of pain especially if it was to be as effective as my clinic treatment. There are three settings, I started at one and within seconds dialled it up to three. I have a very low pain threshold (almost pass out getting blood taken) and this is absolutely fine. The more dense and thick the hair is in particular areas the more it hurts but the zap is so quick its over in less than a second.
It is quick and easy. A minute on my under arms and a few minutes on my thighs. You can either hold and drag across larger areas or pulse/zap pressing on the more sensitive areas like under arms.
Ive used this four weekends in a row now and have already seen at least half the under arm hair disappear. I can see there are patches that are still there so I need to zap in tighter sections. But at least I can see that its actually working!
Absolutely recommend! Think of the money you will save on waxing and the inconvenience of all those appointments or having to shave every few days.
Tips: Start on setting one then work your way up to three.
Pulse under the arms, its a niggly area to drag. Plus I found the pulsing more bearable for that denser part.
Keep it consistent, I chose to do it every Sunday night, easy to remember and Im always home on a Sunday night!
