Some Lash Improvement

I have very meh lashes, so I was super excited to get on this trial team.

The serum comes in a similar container to a fat eyeliner or brow pen, but has a soft brush at the end that looks more like a lip brush. At the other end you twist for product to come out. The product then comes out through the middle of the brush as a lump of product (so one twist is plenty). Except for the first time - it took a lot of twisting that time to get any product to come through at all. There were also no instructions on the box which I felt was an oversight.

The instructions for use are twice a day on upper and lower lash line. I found remembering to use it twice a day was the biggest challenge. Once was easy, twice just seemed harder. The product could also be a little challenging to distribute when too much came out (at that point I disregarding the brush and massaged it in with my fingertip).

In terms of change, about 6 weeks in I noticed my lashes looked a little longer (but not thicker), by the end of the trial I think they may have grown fractionally more.

However, there was enough growth that my mascara game has never been so good.

I have also included some photos of my lash experience on the photowall.

Tips: Set reminders to make sure you use it twice a day and apply to a make up free face.

Lash Serum

Firstly, I have to say thank you to Beauty Review for the chance to trial a new product. I always feel quite lucky to trial products and write reviews on them.

I was super excited to be chosen for a lash serum trial, I mean who dosent want long, thick gorgeous lashes?

The claims on the packaging are

94% agreed lashes look fortified,

97% saw less lash loss

81% agreed fringe looks fuller.

This particular lash serum comes in a thin round tube, almost pen like. To use, you take the top off and twist the bottom and the serum comes out of the top which has a brush. I had to twist for quite sometime to produce the serum, at almost the giving up point, the clear serum appeared in the brush. The serum is quite hard to see as it comes out as it is a clear liquid and the brush is almost clear as well. I felt the dispensing method could have been quite wasteful because as you twist to get the serum out, sometimes a whole lot came out and you couldnt really use the whole lot.

The instructions say to brush onto your upper and lower lashes in the morning and evening.

I did this morning and evening for around 4 weeks, then it ran out, A bit disapointing really as other lash serums I have used has lasted a lot longer, however I only used my usual serum once a day but I still think this one did not last as long.

I waited and waited for my lashes to show some sort of improvment such as becoming thicker and not having so many fall out as I take off my eye make up. I have posted before and after photos on the photo wall and as you can see, sadly there is no notable difference. My lashes are not thicker, I am still losing lashes when I remove my eye make up.

I absolutely wanted to love this product as I adore so many products from this company, and this is the first product I have not had the desired results from.

I have used another lash serum in the past and have had awesome results so for me, I will be sticking to that one.

Tips: Twist slowly as the serum can come out quickley and you could possibly waste some.

Thicker, fuller lashes

L'Oreal's Clinically Proven Lash Serum promises to "Take your lashes to new lengths with the easy to use lash booster serum applicator. Simply apply to the lash line every day and watch as your lashes become stronger, longer and thicker!" But does it live up to its promise?

I've always been very skeptical when it comes to lash serums. They're horribly expensive, and do they actually work? How much of it is all in your mind? Have you imagined that your lashes are fuller, longer or thicker? Well, I took before photos before I began using this lash serum, and the results speak for themselves.

After using the serum twice per day (morning and evening) for one month, my lash 'fringe' felt thicker and I was no longer losing eyelashes during the day or when I removed my make-up at night. My lashes feel longer, but I think that's all in my mind, as when I look in the mirror they don't really look longer than they used to, but there's definitely more fullness.

L'Oreal's Clinically Proven Lash Serum is enriched with castor oil, Vitamin B5, Filoxane and Hyaluronic Acid, which help to strengthen and reinforce lashes over time. This serum also helps to repair any damage caused by heavy (waterproof) mascara use, use of lash extensions or false lashes.

One thing that I don't like about the applicator is that it has a brush tip, which was difficult to use in the beginning without accidentally sticking the bristles into my eye by accident. After I'd used it for a week or two, the bristles stuck together and became more like a liquid eyeliner applicator, which was much easier to use. Another thing was that it's hard to tell how much product is on applicator and whether or not you need to twist the base to get more product to flow to the tip. One twist of the base is sometimes not enough, while two twists is too much and eyelashes end up soaked in product, instead of it just being applied like liquid eyeliner.

Initially this serum made eyelids itchy about an hour after I'd applied the serum, but the itchiness stopped after about two weeks of using the product. I'm guessing that it was just the serum drying on my skin that caused the slight itchiness, as there was no redness, no swelling, and no allergic reaction.

I've been using the serum twice daily for two months now, and I think the proof is in the 'after' photos. I'd recommend this serum and would definitely consider purchasing more, as it does work (my lashes are definitely fuller and don't fall out as easily) and its way more affordable than dedicated lash serum brands on the market. If you've always wanted to try and eyelash serum but the price of LiLash or fLash has put you off, give L'Oreal's Clinically Proven Lash Serum a try!

Tips: Apply twice daily (morning and evening) EVERY day for the best results

Unexpected Brand

I was very stoked to be accepted for this "secret" lash serum trial. I have heard of a couple of other brands serum products, however this is the first one that I have tried one. I was skeptical as I don't really understand how applying a product minimally every day can give you results over time.

Wasn't expecting it to be L'Oreal, in saying that it makes sense really as this is an area worth expanding into. The brand is also easily accessible brand here in New Zealand. I like the Teal coloured packaging. There is a lot of claims written on the box. Eg:Clinically proven, eye safety tested. Also a graph of results on the back.

The applicator is plain white with a silver coloured twist top bottom and a brush top head where the product comes out through the center. I am not fond of that brush head as it's quite thick when applying. I much prefer the thiner liner type brush that is more accurate to apply. I did have to twist quite a few times when I first started using it to get the product to come up.

Applying it despite the type of brush is easy. Though I did get some in my eyes a few times and it was a bit stingy. I followed the directions and applied in the morning (before makeup) and in the evening (after my cleansing routine). I found it highly irritating in the mornings as I noticed that for some reason it tends to dry down like glue and has that glue type residue. I tended to have to peel it off before I could apply makeup. By choice I would just use this in the evenings.

Does it work? I did take before and after pictures. I have noticed that my lashes do look thicker, have less fall out and are longer. Picture comparisons don't look as impressive as when I look in a mirror but that could be because I don't know how to do those duo/split screen images.

I like this product, it is useful, it is easy to use and it does what it says it will. I would consider repurchasing depending on the price point.

Tips: Twist the product a couple of times only to get the product to dispense. Sometimes it doesn't look like a lot but I found if you twist "one more time" you end up with too much product.

Also due to a glue dry down effect, you may want to just apply in the evenings. Though it will probably take twice as long to get the full effect results.

Lash serum

I was lucky enough to be chosen to trial this lash serum before it hits the market. I have tried lash serums before, and found them to be effective, so I was curious to see if this would work too.

This serum is packaged as a white wand, with a silver handle and silver cap. The box it comes in is coloured silver, blue and white. The English instructions on the box say to apply the serum onto the roots of both the upper and lower lash lines in the morning and in the evening. For the trial team we were asked to apply the serum twice a day for 90 days. I have been applying mine for about 2 months.

The applicator for the serum is a small white brush, which is located under the removable silver cap on one end. The serum is loaded onto the brush by winding the silver handle on the other end of the wand. This part of the instructions is not included anywhere on the box. This differs from other lash serums I have used where you dip the brush into the serum, much like a mascara, but it still worked effectively. A couple of twists of the handle got enough serum onto the brush to coat the roots of both sets of lashes on each eye. The brush is quite short, yet soft like a paintbrush, so it was easy to apply to my lash roots. My main criticism of the product design is that the cap of the brush, and the handle, look very similar, so I spent the first few weeks trying to pull the handle off instead of the cap every time I went to use it! Hopefully they make them more distinctive in future.

The serum itself goes on clear, and is not noticeable once applied. It also does not affect the application of any eye makeup, such as eyeshadow and mascara. I have sensitive eyes too, and it did not really affect them. There was a little sensitivity when the product first went on, but that soon went away.

So, did it work? Yes, it did. My lashes, both top and bottom, became noticeably longer after using it for two months. It does take a bit of remembering to apply it twice a day, every day, but it is worth it if you want naturally longer lashes.

And the verdict is....

When I first received this trial product in the mail, I was underwhelmed. I was expecting a flashy serum, not a brand I could buy at the supermarket. Unfortunately, humans are conditioned to judge a book by its cover, and judge this I did.

I hate the box. There is too much writing/information all at once, and its not all in English. It looks messy, and it's certainly not eye catching. I get that it's sold in other countries, and not everyone is a native English speaker, but that is what a pamphlet inside the box is for. Not shoving everything onto a tiny box making it look so unappealing it's sat on the floor since the trial started so I wouldn't have to look at it.

The applicator is all in one, where I was expecting a 2 part deal of a delicate little brush and a serum. Instead, it reminds me of a cuticle oil pen with a thick brush and a hard to take off lid if your hands are oily (this was the last thing on my skincare to do list, so, oily hands). Lid off, and the base winds up so the serum comes out the top. I also don't think that this should be classed as a serum. A serum to me is watery and thin, and applies evenly. This is nothing more than a thick paste, which makes it harder to apply delicately and evenly with a too thick brush tip.

However. Once I got over my initial hatred of the entire product and the horse it rode in on, I started to notice things. For instance, thin serums are more likely to drip past my lashes into my eyes, but I rarely felt the burning sting of this getting into my eyes, maybe once or twice a week. I found that in actual fact, the claim of lash loss was real. Of course, if my eyes were given a vigorous rubbing, I might get one or two, when in the past I've gotten upwards of 4 or 5. It may not seem like a lot, but it kinda is.

I also agree with the claim that my lashes are more fortified/fuller. The man was looking at me oh so lovingly and commented "My god! Your lashes are so black! So thick and luxurious!!". Finally, the rat race between who had better lashes was on.

A week into the trial I had my eye lashes tinted, and I almost *almost!* want to say that the lash serum has prolonged the tint. It's like the two have worked hand in hand, though I know that sounds bizarre and surely isn't right. However this is my experience and so I'm going to believe it has, but opinions will vary. I also found applying before mascara made my lashes look 10x longer and fuller, like it is a primer before lashes and made specifically for that purpose.

The best thing about this eyelash paste though, is the fact that I've forgotten to use it on more than one occasion. Me being typical me, I've also only used it once a day unless I've worn makeup. Now if I can get those results from once a day, I can only imagine how much thicker and luxurious my lashes would be had I used this twice a day like suggested. This trial product was a book I judged far too quickly, but so far, it's the best lash anything I've ever used.

Tips: Don't wind too much! It doesn't go back in the tube!

Lush lashes

I have been looking at investing in a lash serum for a while now, so this came at a good time! My lashes are fairly short, thin and straight, so I was really keen to see what difference this serum could make.

The packaging is white and silver plastic- it has a brush at one end (and a lid that covers it) and a twist bottom. I didn’t mind the colour scheme although I think it looks a little on the cheap side. I am not a fan of products where the product is dispensed by twisting the bottom as I usually find them quite difficult to use, and this was no different. It was really hard to control the amount of product that comes out; some times twisting it to 3 clicks would give me the right amount of product, other times nothing came out so I would twist more and still nothing would come out… A few times I twisted it several times, much more than I usually would, and still no product came out? There was plenty of product in it as well, so this was confusing. I tried finding a certain number of clicks to see if that would help, but the amount of product dispensed would always be inconsistent so I gave up and guessed each time.

The applicator is a brush tip which I found was too big. Applying the product on my eyelid just above my lash line (as per the instructions) I found that it made a thick line on my eyelid. I think a wand type applicator with a much smaller brush on the end (so you can paint it on, it that makes sense) would be more precise and easier to use.

The texture of the serum was nice and smooth and spread easily. I did find that after I had applied it at night, when I woke in the morning I would have some sticky residue on my eyelashes and sometimes on my skin- I am not sure whether I applied too much product or if I got too much of it on my lashes? It didn’t bother me too much, but it was just annoying.

After using this regularly (I was pretty consistently applying it twice a day, although there was definitely a morning or two I missed when I was in a rush!) for two months, I have noticed a difference in my lashes! They are definitely longer, thicker and fuller looking. They are also a bit more naturally curled at the ends, before they were pretty straight. When wearing mascara, I have had compliments about how good my lashes look as well!

All in all, this did work for me and I was able to see a noticeable change in my lashes, however I didn’t personally like the packaging with the twist at the bottom and the size of brush. This is much cheaper than many of the other lash serums out there so it’s really good if you’re on a tight budget, and the formula itself was good. I am not sure that I would repurchase this, as I just didn’t love it, so would be keen so try the other serums out there.

L'oreal Clinically Healthy Lashes, Not Much Growth

I was really excited to be on this trial team as I love, love, love lash serums and am always eager to try one that will give me outrageous growth, length and fullness. Now before I go further into this review I need to give a bit of a background on myself so you have an idea of what sort of challenges lash serums I use are up against. I've struggled with trich for the majority of my life. Trich is an OC disorder where you pull your hair. Unfortunately the main hairs I've pulled when I started when I was really young was my lashes and I still struggle from time to time with pulling them. The repeated pulling over the years means that when they slowly grow back in the growth is naturally sparse, the lashes are super fine and because they've been pulled out so many times I've actually lost a little bit of the length naturally. Alright back to the review.

So with this lash serum you have to apply this morning and night to clean lash lines before applying makeup or mascara. It comes in pen with a brush on one end and you crank the bottom to get the serum on to the brush. I liked the idea that the product is I guess fresher since you're only cranking it up as you need it. However it's a bit tricky since the product comes out so slowly that you don't know if you cranked up too much till it comes out and I ended up wasting product a few times since as once you've completed your application the remaining product sits on the brush applicator and if you store it with brush end down then it just drips into the cap or if you store it with the brush end up then it just drips down the capped part of the applicator. I like that the serum is thick enough so that it doesn't drip into your eyes immediately after application but on the days that I applied too much and it did come in contact with my eyeballs it didn't sting them. In fact the whole duration of the trial I didn't have any irritation at all. The viscosity of the serum makes the brush hairs splay out in opposite directions so you are applying the serum with two brush points, if that makes sense. Despite that I didn't find the brush too pokey or rough for my lash line. The ingredients in this lash serum are - water, alcohol denat, hydroxyethylcellulose, pentylene glycol, aminopropyl triethoxysilane, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, madecassoside, phenoxyethanol, polysobate 21, lactic acid, methylparaben, castor seed oil, sodium hylauronate, arginine, serine, citric acid, pathenol, glutanic acid, threonine, proline, alanine, cysteine (FIL B210573/1). I kept a log of the results I got weekly from this lash serum.

Week 1 Don't really see any results but very few lash serums give results after one week.

Week 2 My lashes seem to be a bit softer and less prone to breaking at the tips. I haven't seen an increase in length or fullness that is out of the norm.

Tips: Week 3 My lashes are growing and filling out a bit more. I did have quite a bit of trich shortly before I started this trial so I think it is possible that my lashes are growing back like they would. They are a bit softer and little less prone to breakage which for someone with trich is a good thing as I do tug on my lashes a fair bit.

Week 4 Continued growth the bald spots are getting a bit of peach fuzz as the lashline is getting more growth. The slightly longer lashes are soft and a bit more noticeable I think the lash serum is helping a tiny bit with the conditioning.

Week 5 Same as week 4. Not much difference in length. The peach fuzz is growing a bit.

Week 6 No noticeable difference for me between now and week 5.

Week 7 My full length lashes are still the same length. The short stubby ones that have grown back in are growing but I think that's just my natural lash growth.

7 and a Half Weeks I have enough lashes and enough length to wear mascara on my top and bottom lashes and look like a normal person with just naturally sparse short lashes.

So in conclusion, I think this is a good lash serum/conditioner. While my lashes did mostly grow back naturally this aided them in staying conditioned and healthy. One thing that this did out perform the other lash serum in is I noticed that the lashes didn't grow in pointing sideways or poking me in the eye, everything grew in the correct natural direction. Personally I have gotten faster results using another lash serum so I will probably go back to using that once I've completed using this for 90 days.

Tips: This would probably suit someone who just wants a nice lash conditioner to maintain their lashes and slow down the amount of breakage you get from the daily wear you get from wearing and removing mascara. But if you have damaged your lashes permanently then you probably need a lash serum with a lot more active ingredients to see dramatic results.

Beautiful Lashes

I was so stoked to be chosen for this trial . My lashes are quite sparse not really thick or full . Over the course of two to three months I used this lash serum morning and night . I wear make up to work most days .

Packaging I thought wasn’t really eye catching to look at . Very Basic . This is shaped like a pen . This is like a liquid gel that’s clear . There’s no scent at all .

Application wise it seems to blob out on to my lashes . I wish this was a spoolie . I think it would have spread through each lash better . Anyway I wore this under my mascara each day .

My results were that my top lashes did become slightly fuller in appearance . My bottom lashes no real change for me . Still looking sparse . I’ve never tried lash serums before . I’ve always been skeptical about them .

Overall I can’t really see myself using this again. I don’t have the patience to wait for results. I think I would rather go back to false eyelashes instead .

Surprisingly great results!

I had never felt a need to use a lash serum because my lashes are long and I've always been happy with them. I was really curious to see the results of one so excitedly accepted this trial team opportunity. It was a big commitment. I needed to apply this lash serum twice a day for 60 days. To be honest it very easily became a part of my skincare routine. I left it in a prominent place on the vanity in the bathroom and I only forgot to apply it a few times over the whole time. The packaging is quite simple, not overly fancy or complicated but its perfect for the job. There is the brush at on end and a twist dispenser on the other end. I quickly figured out that two turns per application was the right amount. Sometimes in low light it was hard to tell the ends apart since they are both silver. The brush is what you would expect and the serum itself looks like a clear gel. It goes on easily, just brush it on and you're ready to go. I used this twice a day for the whole 60 days and there is still product in there. I am interested to see how much longer it lasts for. The price is really reasonable compared to other lash serums and makes it really affordable when it easily lasts the two months you need to start seeing results. Now for the outcome! I have to admit I wasn't expecting much. I was already pretty happy with my lashes, they were a decent length and I've never worried about it before. I took before and after photos and there is a very noticeable difference in length and the amount of lashes I have. While they were long enough to point up at the ends before you can see on the comparison now that they curl around at the ends. I have so many more lashes now that when I've put mascara on them it looks like I have falsies or extra lashes on. It has become easier to put mascara on and get better results over the trial period and that's something I would never expected. I am really pleased with how well and noticeably this lash serum has worked and since it is so reasonable I will be purchasing it when the trial one runs out. It's become a natural part of my daily beauty routine.

Tips: Whatever you do try not to get the product in your eye. I managed to a couple of times and it stings!
