Reviewing this lipstick was such a pleasure , the besutiful velvet soft case made it very classy looking. I used the color nude lipstick and it suited my skin tone to a T. Easy to apply with it's true color , really kept my lips soft I had no drying out or smudge. I'll be looking into other colors which can be found in places such as farmers. I also used the universal lip liner with this lipstick and at first i wasn't sure about it - now I love the combo !

Tips: Do I light sugar lip scrub before applying an go slowly - it's so beautiful on.
I tried out this lipstick in the shade "Nude", which is a gorgeous everyday shade, or perfect with dramatic eye looks. I found it lasts a reasonable amount of time (although as expected starts coming off when eating/drinking), and wears off quite well. I don't think you really need to use a lip liner with it - I would probably only wear a lip liner with it if I wanted to use the lip liner to get a slightly different look. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for other shades!
Tips: Make sure you exfoliate your lips before using so that it goes on smoothly and doesn't cling to any dry patches!
So glad I was chosen to trial the max factor velvet lipstick. I received the shade nude with a max factor universal lip liner. It comes in a nice black bullet tube, which feels rubbery to touch with a clear base which makes it quite easy to chose the shade. It has the trademark max factor "X" etched on the side of the lipstick. This nude shade has a very beautiful nude pink color and I loved the look on my lips. I found that The lipstick itself feels quite moisturizing and does not give the dried up look which most matte lip products normally do, and that was a big plus for me.It glides on the lips quite smoothly and feels quite light as well. There is a nice soft smell which I cannot describe however it does not linger and I couldn't smell it once it was on my lips anyway. I tried it with and without the lip liner and the only difference was that lined lips had a better staying power whereas when I used the lipstick without the liner it faded out a lot quicker while eating or drinking. This will leave a mark on your glass and utensils and is not kiss proff. In saying that I must admit that it did last a good 4-5hours without the need for touch up. You will need to retouch after eating as it does fade especially around the sides. The color comes out really nice with just one coat I used two coats to give it a even finish. Overall I really liked this product and think that the price is quite reasonable as well. It does give a nice velvet matte look without the drying effect. Would purchase again. Thank you BR for choosing me for this trial.
Tips: For a longer lasting lip color use with the lip liner oh and do give your lips a gentle exfoliate with baking soda begore applying to get the smooth finished look.
I've not really jumped on the matte train, mostly because all of the matte liquid lippies have been incredibly drying. So I didn't have much hope for a 'solid' matte lipstick to be honest.
The packaging is lovely, sleek and it feels like a great quality product. It's also less 'old lady' than previous Max Factor packaging. I will admit, I tried to open the very bottom, do see if it was a wee pottle of product like on some brands - but I don't think it is. (I resisted the temptation to try and pry it off with a knife!)
I tried the nude shade - a pinky nude, that's great for day wear.
The lipstick smelt lipstick-y, in that I couldn't detect any distinctive scent. A great sized bullet and the square lipstick casing means you're less likely to nick the bullet when replacing the lid.
The lipstick applied well, both straight from the bullet and with a brush, and I found it wore well through the day, requiring the usual after-eating touch up. It is definitely less maintenance than a liquid matte lipstick.
The finish was, hmm, mostly matte, with a slight sheen. I found the sheen more apparent when teaming this with the Universal Lip Liner than by itself.
Over all, a nice, non drying, very-close-to-matte formula. I'm looking forward to more shades!
Tips: If you're going to pair this with the Universal Lip Liner and want a matte look, only line the outside of your pout, don't 'prime' the whole lip, else you'll end up with a sheen.
SCRUB!! Exfoliate your lips before hand!
I've spent years trying to find two things - the perfect red lippy, and a matte lipstick that doesn't leave my lips looking dehydrated. This lipstick achieved both.
The packaging I enjoyed - a chic matte black tube with the colour (Love 35) at the bottom, making it easy to fish out from a sea of lipsticks. The lipstick itself has the classic Max Factor X etched on the side.
I used this lipstick two ways - one with the universal lip liner, and then without. With the universal lip liner (which I love that it's clear so it doesn't matter if your lips aren't lined perfectly) it lasted beautifully. Through a cup of tea, morning tea and lunch. Four hours easily, and then it began to fade into a nice berry stain as opposed to a ring of red around my lips and a weird nude lip look in the middle. Without the liner it lasted a couple of hours, but once again it faded into a stain and was nice to reapply.
The only thing I'd say is that it's not a true matte lipstick, there is a hint of shine going on. But I actually like this - and prefer it to having my lips become dry as husks over the course of a day. I also suspect that slight shine is what provides the moisture and makes it easier to reapply.
All in all I'm so sold on this range and will definitely add more shades (that nude!) to my collection.
Tips: Use the lip liner for longer wear time.
I saw this on BR and decided to pick it up from Farmers as a wee treat for myself. I chose the Rose shade.
It's gorgeously packaged, looks very classy.
I don't use a brush to apply it, straight from the tube, and it applies smoothly and evenly. Two coats and you're left with an opaque colour with a pretty matte finish.
I found it lasted a little longer than my average lipstick, it definitely lasted through drinking, no marks on the cup, but it needed touching up after eating.
It didn't bleed, smear or smudge when wearing off which is always a good thing.
Tips: Use a lip liner for a crisp finish.
I receieved one of these lippies to trial from BR :). I was lucky enough to be able to choose my shade and I chose 35/Love, which is a rich red. Also I got a a sweet little bonus with this lippie, a universal lip liner (Max Factor) it draws invisibly - genius!
This lipstick packaging is simple but cool, a matte black cover and a clear bottom so that you can see the color.
The moment that I took this to my lips I was stunned by how buttery it is, it glides on super smoothly and is highly moisturising. This lipstick is so lovely to apply and the color is beautiful & rich.
Wear-wise however I found that this lipstick goes everywhere, coming off easily on anything that it comes into contact with. It's a bit of a bummer, but apart from that this lippie is perfect.
Love the color that I got, but being bright red I will probably keep it for special occasions, awesome for nights out!
I had not used a matte lipstick before, and was really interested to see how this wears. The packaging has the shade of the lipstick on the base so you can see at a glance what the shade is like. I really like the lid of the lipstick, it's a matte black, with the Max Factor logo on it, but it feels rubbery like an eraser, very stylish. I chose shade 05 Nude, I am pale and this shade suits me, it makes my teeth look whiter, however the colour is a bit darker than what I imagined a nude to be. If you use this without the lip liner, then it feels like more of a balm, but it won't be anchored to your lips. The lip liner helps give the matte look, but in no way is this kiss proof, it will leave traces on your glass, and has the potential to rub off on clothes. The lipstick has a sweet smell, and the longevity impressed me, you would need to reapply if you went out to eat or drink though. Overall this feels good on the lips, and is not drying at all, the only downside I can see it that this just doesn't have the staying power I was hoping it had.
Tips: Use the transparent lip liner, or this will slide off your lips super fast.
I was fortunately chosen for this trial. I chose the shade Blush 02, which is a cross between fuchsia and magenta and is a bright, but very pretty, shade.
The packaging is a standard black bullet, with a stand the same shade as the product. The bullet feels velvety to match the name! It has a light scent similar to bubblegum, which is gorgeous. I can’t smell it once it’s applied to my lips though.
I have been using the Max Factor universal lip liner that came with the lipstick, and it provides a good base for the lipstick. The product glides on easily enough but it takes two coats to completely cover my lips evenly. I haven't tried applying it with a brush, (because I don't have an appropriate brush) but suspect I would get a better result if I had. I don’t have the nice plump lips that show off lipstick to its full advantage, but I have to say that this is probably the best I’ve managed to date. The colour is even with no bleeding or feathering, I don’t end up with it on my teeth, and my lips don’t go dry. The colour is lovely and has a matte finish. That’s a change for me because I usually use lip gloss to get some shine, but I really don’t mind it. I couldn’t resist trying some gloss on top of it, and it went quite badly.
The lipstick lasted well for a couple of hours and only bled when it had gloss on it (which no one had recommended trying).
All up, a very nice lipstick and one I would recommend. And $28.00 seems a reasonable price for a very good Max Factor lipstick I think.
Tips: Use the lip liner first, try applying the lipstick with a brush, and avoid the urge to apply lip gloss on top!
I was thrilled to have been selected to trial the Max Factor Velvet Matt Lipstick and chose the colour Rose which is a gorgeous shade of pink with blue undertones. It comes in a cute matte black case with the colour of the lipstick shade showing on the base. When you slide off the case it reveals the lipstick with the signature Max Factor X etched into the side of it.I also received a Max Factor X Colour Elixer universal lip liner which can be used with any shade of lipstick so this is a huge plus as it means you only need one lip liner instead of multiple ones to match your lipsticks. The lipstick is very well pigmented and goes on smoothly and does give your lips a velvety moisturised feeling not sticky or dry like some lipsticks tend to do.I found it also gave a nice matte finish but not too matte that your lips can look flat colour wise. The lasting power of this lipstick impressed me as there was still a lot of colour showing on my lips after eating and drinking. Even though some of the lipstick did wear off and leave a mark on my glass,I did not need to re touch my lips at all during the night. Overall I am very impressed with this lipstick and the shade of colour and thoroughly recommend both the lipstick and the liner.I will certainly be purchasing this and other colours in the future.
Tips: To get a nice smooth finish exfoliate your lips before hand so the lipstick looks flawless after applying.
