Beauty Insurance?

So I was doing a stocktake of my unopened bag (sack) of mostly skincare and out of curiosity did a very rough underestimate of it's value. It was over $700. I feel ill. That's so much money to me. I can't bring myself to do a full total with my opened stuff too because I'm still in denial about the depths of my depravity but I'm thinking maybe I should, you know, for insurance. Is that a thing? Does anyone have theirs listed on their contents insurance? I'd say aside from my car my beauty collection is easily my most expensive possession.
Depending on how comprehensive your contents insurance is I don't think you would need to specify it for it to be covered. On ours we have to specifically name items worth over $1500 on their own so for a collective stash adding up to $700 I imagine you would be fine. It would be worth checking with your insurance company though.
Currently in the industry, and the main thing I can say is read your policy booklet and schedule and even if you think you understand it call your company or broker and get them to explain it. They should speak plain, easy to understand english, like we do in the forum, and not confuse you with insurance terms. Some also have translators if english is not your first language.
Different companies also have different cover. Also check if your contents covers you inside the home and outside of the home, the expensive camera/phone goes out of the house on a regular basis so you want a cover that will cover it for when you drop it in a puddle walking down the street, and not just inside your home. One company is low priced what they don't tell you is that the cover is for home only and you need to pay extra to have cover outside of the home. Sorry completely off subject there.
Where I work make up, toiletries, clothes and footwear, will be done at market value not purchase value at claim time. It's a little different if your car gets broken into after you've just bought it and put it in there to continue shopping but if you have had it a while, open or not, you will find that it is done at market value, ie what you paid for it $85 is not what it is worth $25.
You may find it hard to specify it on you contents policy as it is used up not something like jewellery, dvds or a bike where the value/product doesn't change as much and collections aren't meant to be used like make up is.

Goodness knows how much my beauty products would be worth - its best not to add these things up I think haha....but I know when I did my contents you had to include all that sort of stuff...but the odds of ever really having to claim it would probably be quite rare unless your house burnt down or someone came and stole everything you own it probably wouldnt be worth it :)
That's scary! I thought about it a couple of weeks ago as hubby brought a new tractor. I wanted to ask and thought they would laugh at me.
Ring ring, ring ring...."Farmer wifey here, I have a whole "beauty room" of makeup. Can you make sure that's on the farm insurance with the tractors and stuff please" .LOL

Considering I have been spending $200 to (guilty face inserted here) $600 a month (the $600 was my birthday month though so I can justify it) on beauty products over the last 8-10 months then the maths isn't hard to work out what is in my beauty room ok that includes bath/shampoo products but still I'm not going to think to hard about it or I'll have a breakdown.
I would so be in my new house now if I could stop spending money!! but I can't I need all the pretty things. Irresponsible yes, happy 100% yes!!!

i don't think they're'back' per se, this is a very old thread! Still a relevant topic though, I often wonder when I'm travelling what happens if you lose your whole makeup bag, ie enough that it would be worth paying an excess to make a claim. How do you prove what you had and how much was left? I guess this is where my mecca order history will come in useful ;)
