Cheap makeup storage ideas!

I never thought of keeping those little chocolate boxes! They sound perfect as they're clear. I'm guttered that we can't get a large range of acrylic storage here, I am in love with the large ones with draws and a lid, they look gorgeous! I think I might need to buy some chocolates so I can use the conatiners for storage haha ;)
Love those little stacked draws. Helps seperate all my make up so i can find things. One draw is for tools like brushes, cotton buds, one draw for eye make up. and one for lips. I think the best way to keep your makeup storage in order and organised is to sort through it really often. Other wise you just end up digging through loads of products you no longer use to find the products you love.
Another makeup storage tip : * is i have a small makeup bag for samples i recieve. I find this really handy for when i travel . Good way to take a wide range of products and it doesnt take up much space :)

Yes nicole, they are the ones from the warehouse. i have the 3 draw one. And since i have an extra large make up collection i have another containor that i put products in that i use but don't love. Also as the seassons change i change the draws round with things from my other box. Lol my poor hubby has no space at all on our dressing table but at least if i want something i can find it :)
Hmmm the bamboo steamer idea sounds great, I'm guessing you'd sort your makup into the different kinds and have them in different baskets, how fun! I currently store my makeup in a lined whicker basket from The Warehouse, one for haircare etc. and one for my everyday makeup. I might have to go back to Bunnings (I was there yesterday looking at the big plastic roller bins) and see what they have as they normally tons of storage options!
Im big on sale shopping and i love typo.. You can pick up some really cute and quirky storage ideas from there which are not only practical but look awesome too! Definintely worth checking out. I found some cool skull pen holders which would be great for make up brushes and they sell cute lil drawer sets too!
I do need some organsiation for my make-up as well. Currently mine is sitting in my BeautyBay gift box I gor when I ordered some stuff off there. There is no organisation going on in that box and I am often scurrying around trying to find a tiny concealer under everything. I also used a tin I recieved when I brought my Smiths Rosebud Salve gift pack to hold mascara, eyeliner and brushes.
I like to recycle stuff too! So I have been using empty bath and body candle glass because they are large and I put origami stars on it then my brushes. I have used a small medicine bottle and placed some pearls on it then place my tiny makeup brushes. I recycle my sample bar boxes as a separator in my makeup drawer. And I love the Moccona coffee glass containers - they are so cute! I put a bow on the large one for my eyeshadows and some stars and bow on the small one for my cotton pads. My latest recycle are those masterchef small herb containers which I designed with bow and fabric tape and use it to put my cotton buds! I love being creative and recycling stuff as well :)
I've got a really old tiered tray (like you'd find at a high tea) to store my nail polish, great way to see everything! And I've got a few old jam jars for cotton pads/buds/balls and some colourful plastic trays from Briscoes for my lipsticks, blushes and foundations.
I do like some of the ideas here though! :)

I'm big on depotting things to have them all in a handy easy to grab location. When I first got into it it was a bit scary (removing the pans from those expensive fancy cases and the risk of breaking them) and the options for palettes were far and few - I considered getting some Z palettes or MAC ones but realised I could do it on the cheap by buying some DIY powder pressing sets - they come with a lovely black case (very similar to MAC ones) with a plastic insert which is lightly glued to the inside (but easily removed with some pliers) and little round metal pans designed for pressing pigments - you can also get them at fancy art shops but I got mine on trademe for about $4 each a real bargain - in one I have all the shadows I rarely use but don't want to get rid of (night out type shades) and in the second I have fit most of my blushes I use most often plus all my shadows I like for daily wear a good mix of neutrals, blending shades, a few pops of colour black, grey and brown. All up it cost me about $12 to source the palettes and a tube of glue.
There are tutorials on youtube on how to de-pot things. If you do have any breakages you can re-press shadows (or even break a few old ones up to make the perfect shade) mix with isopropyl alcohol and press the powder back in to the pans and overnight it will harden into a pressed powder again.
Depotting into palettes is a great way to save products in broken packaging which I had alot of and your storage space is maximised instantly. Its a good idea to make a palette which is handbag friendly (small and has all the necessary shades for touching up on the go) or like I have done is save a few pieces not to go in the palette and leave them in their original state - a few of my everyday blushes, a few eyeshadows (a brow bone shade, black a matte brown and a few neutrals) are set aside in their original packages for ease of throwing in your handbag - a large bulky palette isn't always ideal for on the go!
For the rest of my makeup I have used the plastic drawers technique, but now I only need a third of the space I once did because of the palettes I have one drawer in the bathroom which I have placed some of those old plastic takeaway containers (the ones you get from thai or chinese takeout) in my drawer to hold eyeliners/mascaras/lip products/face products and any items not put in the palette :)

I have just cut down a bit on makeup but I use a nice cheap candle holder I got at the warehouse a couple years ago to put my makeup brushes in. It also has my lipbalms, eyeliner and lipliner as well so they're handy. I have the daily essentials for eye shadows and stuff in one bag near the front of my drawer and then I have a bag with the smokey eye shadows and liners etc. in another bag in the back. That way I find everything easy to find in a hurry and I save time hunting for everyday products.
My makeup collection has significantly increased since my last comment on this thread 4 years ago.
I recently bought some drawer organizers for a couple dollars at the cheap Korean/Asian $2 store and I'm now able to fit almost all my makeup minus my lippies and couple other products into the top dresser drawer which is the one of the smaller drawers in my dresser. I wish I had done this sooner as everything is so much easier to find. And it looks so tidy and since it's full it's helping me debate whether I need another palette or not, so that's a bonus.

You can get acrylic storage from eBay Ali wish etc or nzsale sometimes has sales for it. I like to go to dollar stores or op shops and get cute big sturdy containers and jazz em up. I got a roll of sequons and a hot glue gun and put bling on mine but theres an array of ideas on pinterest if youre crafty. I use a cakestand for my perfume bottles and glued rhinestones and mirror on that. You don't have to spend a lot, there are cute containers and dollar stores that are perfect for makeup brushes.
