NBR herbal tea

ok a little BR I guess because there are myriad benefits but I just like the taste!

I find herbal tea gives me another option past the holy trinity of coffee - water- wine, esp as I rarely drink juice or fizzy and don’t like hot chocolate.

current faves are both twinings- strawberry, loganberry and raspberry, or ginger and apple but my all time faves are a Japanese one called genmaicha (a roasted rice green tea blend), peppermint, oolong, jasmine or rose

who likes what? I’m always up for trying more! I prefer them individually packaged as they keep and travel better :)

I like drinking lots of green tea and some red tea for it's antioxidant properties. I'm not a fan of fizzy drinks either.

I go through phases with herbal teas. I have a twinnings ginger and apple at the moment, a morlife senna tea for when I want a cleanse lol. I've tried lots of green tea but I can't stomach it, it tastes like dirty sock water lmao. I tried a cinnamon chai the other day, it smelt so good but tasted so bad.

lisa having lived in japan i'm super crazy fussy about green tea and 99% of what you get in a packet in nz supermarkets is terrible. have you tried it in a japanese or chinese restaurant? makes ALL the difference when it's loose leaves, brewed properly.

I know there are people who like the NZ ones (including my Mum, who also lived in Asia) but I can't even with it, it tastes powdery and old to me :/ If I drink green it tends to need to come from the japanese supermarkets, or very occasionally i'll find a green-jasmine blend i can cope with.

Another green tea snob here! I agree with everything Trudi says. Also green tea shouldn't be made with boiling hot water. I avoid tea bags as much as possible.  I went to a tea plantation and factory in Sri Lanka years ago and the stuff they put in tea bags is literally the dust left over after they've sieved the leaves for the high grade teas. I do use tea bags for making kombucha or travelling though, just for the convenience. Otherwise to me it's like real coffee - not much harder to make than instant coffee for much better results!

I'm obsessed with tea - the top shelf of my pantry is all tea and I think there's some on all the other shelves too, as well as the kitchen bench lol. I'm also known for my Starbucks flask which is always full of tea and I'm never seen without at work. I mostly buy my teas from T2 which yes, is over priced but I think of buying a nice box of tea as being like buying a nice bottle of wine. I drink green tea in the morning then fruit tisanes in the afternoon/evening.  My favourite fruit teas as peach (smells amazing - I've found students sniffing my tea before to see what's it is lol), pomegranate and strawberry ginger. I also like peppermint tea especially if my stomach isn't feeling great.

T2 also do limited edition teas and we all know what a sucker I am for those! I'm also on first name basis with all the staff in there now lol.

Yes, I love tea! I should really go and organise my tea shelf...

Actually now that I think about it yes I had it at a Japanese restaurant after our meal and it was quite nice.

yeah no tea or coffee should be made with actively boiling water, it makes it bitter.

Boiled, then left until it settles (30 seconds is enough, just enough time for the water to not be bubbling with the active heat) is much better.

and don't get me started on instant 'coffee' haha it's literally coffee scented coloured water.

I let the water sit for 5 to 7 minutes for green tea as it supposed to be brewed at 80c. Unless I'm using the horrible zip at work which I've scalded myself on many a time. Then I put cold water over the leaves first (my friend does this for any tea as it stops the leaves being scalded). I'd love one of those kettles you can set to heat water to different temperatures. A colleague has one and says it makes a huge difference to green tea.

Instant coffee actually tastes of chlorine to me. Yuck. And I'm morally opposed to coffee capsules.

i'd never make tea if i had to let it sit for 7 minutes each time lol. although to be fair if i top up my cup i never reboil the jug

Haha. Sometimes I forget (or forget that the tea is brewing). Once it's made and in my tea flask though, that keeps it hot all day so I'm good to go for a few hours.

another thing you can do with loose leaf but not bagged tea - i can't leave the bag in there for too long or it goes strong and bitter, whereas leaves can sit around for ages and be fine.

Have you ladies checked out Tea Total?  They do the loose leaf teas.  The Chamomile is very nice.

The Nespresso capsules aren't so bad.  You can buy an empty bag from Nespresso for around $1.50 which holds up to 100 used capsules.  You then drop that bag into NZ Post for free and Nespresso recycle the pods.

They use the caffeine beans from the pods for things like fertilizer and the aluminium can be recycled over and over.

guess i'm a tea heathen then, i use boiled water straight from the jug. oh well. look at all the bleeps i don't give.

i like dilmah, i don't really like drinking any other black teas. twinings tea is much too fruity.

i like red seal fruit teas, i usually make iced tea with them, bloody good.

agree green tea tastes like bottoms. i also like lisas description "dirty sock water" i agree.

made my own tumeric chai tea, wasn't horrible but i'm not sure if its "for me". maybe i need to make another one and see.

one of my favorite loose leaf teas is called " calm the f*%! down " quite good with a bit of sugar. though i'm not sure the addition of sugar makes one calm.

Kellie aaaages ago mentioned the dilmah (?) rose one, with milk and sugar tastes like turkish delight. it's not half bad either.

mmmm rose tea.

Shaz - we're tea snobs because we lived in asia i think - in Japan it's an art, there are whole careers based around tea in it
s many forms lol. That wears off on you ; )

I learnt tea ceremony in Japan so yeah, tea snob lol. I also don't like milk or sugar in tea but Turkish delight tea sounds good! I often match my fruit teas to the chocolate I'm eating. At the moment I'm drinking pomegranate tea and eating cherry coconut timtams. Yum.

And oooooh yes! Iced tea! I love that in summer. The pomegranate one again, is delicious iced.

yessss iced tea. It makes me sad that when you go places and order/buy iced tea here it's full of sweeteners and sugar syrup. I just do the 'cold water and herbal tea' version and it's awesome.

Starbucks is the only place i've found - i get the passion hibiscus lemon tea, with no added sweetener and with water instead of lemonade and it's sweet-ish but crazy refreshing. and zero cal

I drink gallons of tea - usually green but also black. I also like sweet dreams tea and relaxing tea. I usually buy Red Seal, not the flash ones.
